So the reason the lock of the Thule Gateway part # TH88VR only secures the furthest out bike on the rack is because if you have that bike secure no one would be able to pull a bike past that one. view full answer...
Have you checked all of the wiring that runs to the taillights of your 2001 BMW X5? You should note that your vehicle uses pulse width modulation. Brake and turn signals are sent along the same wire and signals are sent as pulses which need to be deciphered. In the instructions you should use the BT wiring code. view full answer...
The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller part # RED44FR will work on a 2021 BMW X3. It will have to be completely hardwired which can be done using the Wiring Kit part # 5506. This entails running a battery charge line and brake output wire from the trailer connector into the cab. Then you must run power and ground wires from the brake controller to the battery followed up with a stop light switch wire which must be spliced into the circuit above the pedal. The Redarc Tow-Pro Elite... view full answer...
To install the Tekonsha # 119250KIT wiring harness on your 2013 BMW X5, you'll need to access the wiring harnesses that feed the right and left taillight assemblies and test as shown in the provided video. The video shows the step by step circuit testing and harness install on a 2013 BMW X5 like yours.
A test lamp like # PTW2993 would be easier to use than a voltmeter, but you could certainly use a voltmeter. Just set meter to '12VDC' using the control knob. Ground the black lead and probe... view full answer...
The only hitch receiver we have confirmed to fit your 2013 BMW 128i is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11184. Unfortunately, we have not had a chance to install this hitch on a 2013 BMW 128i yet. However, the installation process is fairly straightforward and I will do my best to walk you through the process below.

To install the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # C13316, on your 2017 BMW X3 there is underbody trimming required, but not fascia. There won't be anything trimmed that will be visible from the back of your vehicle. Installation does require temporary removal of bumper during installation, but there is no drilling required. I've attached a video of the installation on an older model X3 for you. The installation hasn't changed, nor has the hitch receiver for your 2017 model with M Sport package.... view full answer...
Installing the trailer wiring with the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit # SH62VR will not disable the backup sensors. So, with the harness installed your factory sensors will still work when in reverse. view full answer...
I have a solution for you, but there is not a plug and play adapter for a Tekonsha brake controller to be used with a 2021 BMW X3. You could hardwire your Tekonsha Primus # TK90160 into the vehicle. Or you could use a wireless brake controller like the Curt Echo Mobile # C51180, which is controlled with your smart phone (iOS 8.0/Android 4.4 or newer required). The Echo provides you with the same proportional braking as the Primus, but in a plug and play solution that's extremely popular... view full answer...
Per the linked instructions, the etrailer brand # e84AR Class III hitch will require trimming a 4 x 2-1/4 inch piece of the bumper fascia away. I've linked to an install video for the # 13077 hitch which installs in the same manner. view full answer...
Complete installation instructions are included with the hitch, item # 13077 and the wiring harness kit, item # 119250KIT.

You can start the pairing process for the # TK94FR with the trailer disconnected, but it will need to be connected to finish the pairing.
This is the procedure you need to follow to complete the pairing.
Connect the RF unit to the tow vehicle, but do not plug the trailer into the RF unit. Then, plug the hand held remote into the 12 volt power port (cigarette lighter). Next, turn the gain to minimum by rolling the power wheel towards the cord of the hand held. The display may show just... view full answer...

If the trailer you plan to tow has a 7-Way round pole connector, you can install a matching connector on your 2005 BMW X3. But an adapter to go from a 4-Way flat to a 7-Way round pin is not available. Below I have explained how to install a 7-Way round pin connector on the vehicle, but it may be much easier to install a 7-Way blade connector on the trailer using # PK12706. You can use the wiring diagram I have linked to wire the 7-Way blade correctly. I have also included a video that should... view full answer...

I didn't catch what trailer wiring harness you were using on your 2017 BMW X3 but regardless, you will need to test the running light pin on the 4-way to see if you have power. If you do then the issue is on the trailer but if not then the issue is on the vehicle. In regards to a poor ground, this can cause all sorts of weird issues so it could very well cause a problem for the running light circuit but not the stop/turn circuits. Therefore, I would check this on both the vehicle side connector... view full answer...
