I went ahead and reached out to Thule, and my tech said that the most common issue with the knob/wedge of the T2 Pro XTR # TH23JV or # TH83JV involves the lock. One thing that you can do is make sure that the tightening knob is in the "unlocked" position. If it is in the "locked" position, this will not allow the wedge to tighten.

We do carry a trailer hitch for the 2015 Chevy Volt. The Curt Hitch part # C11221 has very low towing capacities though at 100 lbs tongue weight and 1,000 lb total trailer weight.

Excellent choice on a bike rack! The Yakima FullBack # Y02634 is easier to install than a lot of other trunk mount racks and will look great on your 2018 Chevy Volt. The only trunk mount rack that I know of that allows you to lift your trunk or hatch without removing the rack is the Thule OutWay but it only fits certain vehicles and isn't confirmed to fit your Chevy Volt. You can definitely use the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer - 78" item # Y08107 with a roof rack tent. The crossbars on the trailer are adjustable from 4-48 inches wide in order to accommodate the clamps of a roof top tent.

Saris tested their Bones trunk rack part # SA805BL on a 2015 Chevy Volt just like yours and found that as long as you stayed under the weight capacity of the rack you'd be safe. The rack has a 35 lb per bike capacity. With trunk racks most of the weight ends up resting on the lower feet of the rack and not so much on the upper straps.
