Depends on the condition of the wood but the backing plate of the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor w Backing Plate # RR5K that you referenced is designed to distribute the weight so that it does not easily rip through the wood.

Did you extend it to the point where the jack stopped moving but the motor was still making noise? If so, you over extended the jack and damaged the nut and screw. Unfortunately this jack does not stop automatically when it's topped out which will allow it to over extend and damage itself.
You'll have to replace the jack.
