The Tech Bulletin that you were looking at, see link, is the best resource we have for installing a brake controller on the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg. I think that I can expand on the instructions a bit to make a bit of sense out of the wording, and I have a photo of the parts you should get, see link.
You will need to purchase 2 wire assemblies from VW, part number 000-979-228, that will have wire terminals on both ends. You will need to cut each assembly in half to create 4 wires. The... view full answer...
The remote should not have to be paired each time you hook up to your trailer. It might have the occasional disconnect where it needs to be re-paired, but typically you should not have to pair the remote each time.
I have attached the installation details and an installation video for you. The installation video goes over how to pair your remote at the 1:35 min mark. view full answer...
I'll start out by addressing where the confusion comes from- because the Tekonsha Prodigy RF # TK94FR gives off a radio frequency signal to the brakes, it does not require the relay that is required when installing other brake controllers. In order to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 you will need to install a normally open 12v relay, which can be sourced locally, on the brake lamp signal of the adapter wire you use on your 2014 VW Touareg.
If you don't have the towing package... view full answer...
T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # 118668 plugs in line with the tail light wiring on your 2013 Volkswagen Touareg and not to any factory tow package wiring so the vehicle computer would not have to be flashed.
However, if VW has a special software update that enables the vehicle for optimum performance when towing then it is a good idea to do it especially if it alters the transmission shift points to work best when towing! view full answer...
The cold side wire of the stop light switch that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed has a full 12 volts.
Using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 will help you find the correct wire to connect your controller to.
I included a link to a helpful article on installing a trailer brake controller for you to take a look at. view full answer...
I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha regarding installing the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 on your 2016 VW Touareg TDI. He stated that while the original reason for the tech bulletin (to prevent erratic display on the controller) has since been resolved, they still highly recommend that the added relays be obtained and installed. They will act as an additional safety measure to protect the vehicle's delicate wiring in case of a short or backfeed from the controller.
The relays,... view full answer...
The Prodigy P3 part # 90195 that you have can be installed in your 2016 Volkswagen Touareg but there isn't a simple under dash adapter like what is available for Ford trucks.
If you check out the attached link you will see exactly what is required to install a controller in your vehicle. It's a bit more in-depth but there is a way to do it. view full answer...
The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118668 is compatible with LED trailer lights so there's nothing to worry about. Running the power wire through the undercarriage of the vehicle up to the engine bay is typically much easier than trying to sneak the wires inside the vehicle so you can choose whichever route you want to get to the battery, it may just take a bit longer to route it through under the seats since you'll likely have to remove trim panels. view full answer...
We have an FAQ article that covers this exact issue. I have included a link to it for you. The FAQ has pictures that show where you will look for the factory wiring in question. The relay method is required when installing the P3, # 90195. Relay # TR38665 could be used but you can probably get one locally which would be quicker. Then just follow the instructions in the FAQ and the P3 should work as normal. view full answer...
You should not use the cigarette lighter to power the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118509 on your 2004 VW Touareg, you need to run a hot lead directly to your vehicle's battery.
This harness has a ModuLite which needs to connect to your VW's battery and is designed to prevent overloading your vehicle's electrical system, which would be vulnerable if you keep your vehicle wired as is. view full answer...
Most likely the 7-way of your 2015 Volkswagen Tourareg does have the 12 volt accessory circuit active but the best way to tell is to check it with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. The pin on the 7-way you need to test is the one in the 1:00 position. I attached a picture that shows all of the pin functions.
The RF part # TK94FR would be the ideal solution would recommend for installing a brake controller in your 2015 Volkswagen Touareg as this vehicle is notoriously one of the hardest... view full answer...
When installing a Tekonsha Prodigy or Tekonsha P-3 Brake Controller, part # 90195, on a 2005 to 2008 Volkswagen Touareg, a relay is needed to prevent an erratic display on the brake controller.
Apparently to activate the lamp out bulb on your vehicles dash a test pulse is run through the brake light output wire. This test pulse will cause problems on the brake controller unless a relay is installed inline.
It will need to be installed on the red brake wire between the brake controller... view full answer...
To install the Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller # C24VV in your 2012 Volkswagen Toureg with a factory 7-way you will just need to connect the four wires from the controller to the wires under the dash of your vehicle. For more information on this check out the FAQ article I attached to the right.
Since you aren't installing a Prodigy brake controller you should not have to use a relay or add an additional fuse. If you experience an erratic display with the controller you will need... view full answer...
The Curt 7-Way Trailer Adapter for VW, Audi, and Porsche Towing Trailers with LED Lights # C57003 can be left in place without the trailer plugged in on your 2016 Volkswagen Touareg. It can be mounted to your vehicle permanently if you desire. I do recommend using Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors, 2 oz. # 11755 on your connections to ensure you keep moisture and debris out of the contact points. This will prolong the life and function of the connection and the adapter.

It sounds like you do not have the factory installed 7-way on your 2012 Volkwagen Touareg. To install a brake controller like the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 you will need a 4-way wiring harness installed and then to gain the proper brake controller functions you will need to adapt the 4-way to a 7-way.
The 4-way I recommend for your Touareg is # 118668. We do have an installation video of this being installed on your same vehicle. To adapt this to a 7-way, I recommend the # ETBC7, this kit... view full answer...
In order to install the Prodigy P2 # 90885 to the wiring on your 2011 Volkswagen Touareg you're going to need to actually take a trip to your local Volkswagen dealer and obtain the the following; 1 connector housing (#1J0-972-782) and 2 wire/terminal assemblies (#000-979-228).
I am attaching a link to one of our helpful articles that goes over this whole process for you to check out. view full answer...
If you install the # C59496, according to the installation instructions linked for reference, you should not have to worry about the trailer connection causing error codes. This wiring harness gets the power for the trailer lights from the vehicle battery but the signals to tell the trailer light what to do still come from the vehicle tail light wiring, so the harness will need to completely installed to work. view full answer...
The wiring harness, # 118509, for the 2006 Volkswagen Touareg just plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. You do not have to splice into the vehicle wiring for installation. You will need to connect the harness to the vehicle battery. The battery connect actually powers the trailer lights while the connection to the tail light wiring provides the signals, not the actual power for the lights.

The Curt Electronic Sway Control System # C94VV does not need any other anti-sway system to work properly. The system is designed to be used independently. It will apply electric braking as needed on your trailer to control sway and keep your trailer in line with your vehicle.
You may use it in conjunction with a friction sway bar like # 17200 or a weight distribution system with integrated sway control as long as there is not interference with the mounting location of the Curt. Although... view full answer...
