What I would do is go out to your truck and measure out 71 inches and 65 inches on a tape measure and compare that to the width of your bed. If you think the 71 inch looks better and would suit your needs then that's what you would want to go with part # RRVA180B-RRRLT600.

The pin you're referring to is a cotter pin # 165649 that will slip through the a hole in the spindle and then is usually split and bent around the castle nut to prevent the pin from falling out and the castle nut from backing off. I recommend wiping off some of the grease so that you can get a better view of the pin and then using some needle-nose pliers bend the two ends of the pin back together. It sounds like you're getting an output of 0.5 on auto. The manual setting on your # C24VV won't have an impact on the output aside from when you use the manual control. Based on what you're describing it sounds like you need to adjust the gain control which is the maximum power available to the brakes. The load control, which is the sensitivity, adjusts the aggressiveness. Even at 9 there won't be a high output if your gain setting is low.
