I see from your recent order that you purchased the Tekonsha Primus IQ brake controller, part # TK90160 and the wiring harness adapter, part # 3050-P. You can simply plug one end of the adapter into the back of the brake controller and the other end into the port located under your dash near the emergency brake pedal and will be taped to another wiring harness.

In the cargo area of the 2001 Nissan Xterra, under the carpet, there are tools for accessing and changing the spare tire. One of these tools is the jack rod. On one end of the jack rod there is a T-shape. Insert that end into the oval opening located above the license plate in the middle. The rod goes in at an angle so if you are looking at the back of the vehicle the end of the jack rod you are holding will be closer to the driver's side of the vehicle.

Usually there is a grommet some where that can be utilized to route the trailer wiring out of the interior of the vehicle and mount it near the trailer hitch. When you access the rear of the left side tail light look for a grommet. Once you find one close enough that the 4-way connector can reach you will need to make a small slit in the grommet to put the 4 wires in and then route the connector through the hole and reinstall the grommet.

Cutting or trimming the heating surfaces will cause irreversible damage, so I definitely do not recommend doing it. The purpose of the metallic adhesive strips that are included is to help to ensure the heat transfer happens more uniformly. I have a mounting option for you, but the Curt Trailer Hitch, # 13514, does not have a built in mounting bracket for part # PK12711U. Instead, I recommend using our no-drill mounting bracket, part # C57202, along with the mounting bracket you referenced, # PK12711U. If your 2012 Nissan Xterra came with a factory 4-Way trailer connector, then it might not have all of the relays needed for a fully functional 7-Way. But if you installed an aftermarket harness such as # C56225 then the relays are all present and you would just need # 118267 for a fully functional 7-Way.

When installing the Roadmaster MX Base Plate Kit # 354-3 on your 2012 Nissan Xterra it does look like you will need to trim the fascia to allow room for the receiver brace. When installing the Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 43605, on a 2007 Nissan Xterra, you can remove the panel using a tool called a trim panel removal tool like # PT73HJ or # ALL648544. The panel most likely snaps in and the tool essentially pries the snaps out of the holes. To replace it you will just need to align the snaps with the holes and push it down until it snaps into place.

Sounds like you are wanting to hardwire a 4-way to the trailer wiring harness on your vehicle. The only way to know the function is to test the wires with a tester like part # PTW2993 like what you see in the video I attached a link to.

When installing a sidemarker light such as this Optronics Trailer Light # MCL44AB you will want to splice into the signal wire for your trailer running lights circuit and then run the ground wire to a clean metal surface.

No drilling is required to mount the Roadmaster MX Base Plate # RM-344-3B. To mount the XL Base Plate # 344-1B, a 1/2 inch hole will need to be drilled through the bumper core on each side. You will then use a 1/2 inch x 4-1/2 inch bolt, lock washer, and nut through the hole.

The converter box should be mounted just below the left tail light. The connectors with the red and yellow wire go to the left tail light. The green wire connector would then run outside the vehicle, underneath, to the right light.
