If your 2015 Ford Explorer has any of the V6 engines available it will have a towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. Your Class III hitch like the Draw Tite # 76034 should have capacities that are right at the same capacity.
For a transmission cooler you would want the Derale part # D13503 which would work well in your Explorer. view full answer...
The Curt Universal Wiring Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers # C51500 that you referenced comes with all the wiring to install a brake controller, but if you want to complete the 12 volt power circuit on the 7-way you will need to also purchase a 40 amp breaker like part # 9510 and then 10 gauge wire part # 10-1-1.
The # 10-1-1 is sold by the food so you would need to order a quantity of how many feet you would need. I would order longer than you think you will need just to be safe. view full answer...

You need to pick out a ball mount for your setup that will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible when towing. In order to determine the correct ball mount rise/drop you will want to check out the FAQ I attached to the right that details this. Having your trailer sit level should help tremendously with any sway or bouncing of the trailer.
Since the 2 inch hitch will have a higher capacity I would recommend using it for towing purposes. Suspension enhancements aren't recommended... view full answer...
You are absolutely right. The installation process for the Curt Hitch part # C13386 and the Draw-Tite Hitch part # 76034 will be virtually identical.
The install times were created by each manufacturer, and since Curt is a different company than Draw Tite they approximated the install times differently. I can guarantee one will not be harder or take longer to install than the other.

For luggage for 5 people you would need a decent amount of cubic feet so either route you suggested could work. But the big thing will be considering the amount of weight you plan to carry and if the roof of your vehicle has the capacity.
For a long distance drive though, I think you would be happier with a hitch option. A hitch option won't cause a reduction of fuel mileage like a roof box and would be less noisy too.
If you don't have a hitch yet the Curt part # C13386 has been confirmed... view full answer...
