For hard to drill metal surfaces I recommend a rotabroach bit. We have several of these, see link, but they will probably be too large for for a 7-way mounting bracket. You can also try to use self-tapping screws like # 1172904 instead of drilling.

The only thing the Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 needs on the tow vehicle for proper operation is a 7-Way connector with the 12V pin activated. If your 1982 Chevy C10 is equipped with a 7-Way and that circuit is active the Echo will work perfectly and you are good to go.

To determine if there is an air ride pin box that will fit your trailer I will need to know the manufacturer and model of the pin box itself. This information should be on a sticker or plate on the pin box. Or, if that information is not available, it is possible to identify the pin box by taking some measurements.
