Expert Answers about Audi Q5

  • Where to Feed the Security Strap of the Yakima FullBack on a 2019 Audi Q5
  • If you are having trouble feeding the security strap of the Yakima FullBack, part # Y02634, through the top of your hatch, then you can feed it through the bottom. The security strap is not meant as another point for anchoring. It's simply there as an anti-theft strap that will keep the rack from coming loose if someone tries to pull it off. As such, it doesn't matter if you feed this through the top or bottom of your hatch since either way the anchor will stay inside the vehicle.

  • Choosing a Ball Mount with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch on a 2015 Audi Q5
  • When we installed the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75940 on both a 2016 and a 2017 Audi Q5 we found the ground clearance (from ground to inside top of the receiver) was 15". Even though we haven't had a chance to install this trailer hitch on a 2015 model the measurement should be really close to that if not the exact same. With this in mind, all you have to do to choose the correct ball mount is park and level your trailer on level ground and then measure from the ground...

  • Never fear! You will be able to keep the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711300 installed on your 2018 Audi Q5 when mounting accessories (such as ski holders, bike racks, etc.). You will not have to detach the feet any time during the process. • Trailer Wiring Harness for 2018 Audi Q5
  • Sounds like U-Haul either didn't install your wiring kit properly or they installed the wrong kit and don't want to be on the hook for it. So while it's hard to say what actually is going wrong I can tell you that we installed the # C59496 on a 2019 Audi Q5 and it worked perfectly fine so that would be our best option. I attached an install video for this kit on the 2019 Q5 for you to check out as well to that you could use to walk you through the process.

  • Audi Q5 2015 Trailer Wiring Installation
  • The best installation instructions I can give you for installing the # C59236 on your 2015 Audi Q5 would be to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the wiring harness of the taillights you have on your vehicle and then wire up the # C59236 accordingly by function. Here's how the converter will wire to your taillights. Converter Brown Wire: Tail Light Circuit Converter Yellow Wire: Left Turn Circuit Converter Red Wire: Brake Light Circuit Converter Green Wire: Right Turn Circuit

  • Can a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Be Installed on a 2019 Audi Q5 with Tow Package
  • Yes, you can reuse the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 on your 2019 Audi Q5. However, you are going to need a few parts: Replacement Mounting Bracket for Tekonsha Prodigy and P2 part # P7685, Mounting Pocket for Tekonsha Prodigy Proportional Brake Controller part # 7686, and the Pigtail Wiring Harness for Tekonsha and Draw-Tite Brake Controllers part # 7894. • Use of Hands-Free Lift Sensor When Using the Draw-Tite # DT29GR on a 2022 Audi Q5
  • With regards to the Hidden Hitch - 2" # DT29GR, I confirmed with my tech at Draw-Tite that you can still activate the hands-free liftgate sensor on your 2022 Audi Q5. In order to activate the sensor, you need to swing your foot in a slightly larger range under the trunk.

  • Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3 Bike Rack for Vehicles w/ Spoilers 2012 Audi Q5
  • For your 2012 Audi Q5 I recommend using the hatch anchor method to mount the Over-The-Top rack # HRF2-3 to the vehicle. There is supposed to be a 10mm wrench with the Over-The-Top rack # HRF2-3 but it is one of those throw-away ones and you would probably end up using an actual 10mm wrench. The included one could have easily been mistakenly thrown out with the packaging.

  • Fascia on 2012 Audi Q5 Looks Different than What is Shown in Trailer Hitch Instructions
  • The fascia trimming required for your 2012 Audi Q5 will be the same despite the different appearance from what is in the instructions. To be clear make sure you are looking at the first part of the trimming instructions because the second part is for the Porsche Macan which does look different. I have included a customer submitted photo showing the hitch installed per the instructions on a Q5 with the same fear fascia as yours.

  • Recommended Stealth Hitch For A 2017 Audi Q5 And Someone That Can Install It
  • The Stealth Hitches # 391AUDQ509 is definitely a fit for your 2017 Audi Q5, but is not an easy one to install. With that said, we have indeed started to get some installers listed on our site and I included a link to where you can find them below. You will just need to update the zip code to see those in your area. If there are currently none listed though, I always recommend going to a mechanic that has done good work on vehicles for you in the past. They will typically do the best job...

  • Is Bumper Cover Trimming Necessary to Install Curt C13331 Class III Hitch on 2021 Audi Q5
  • According to step 9 of the installation instructions, a 3-1/4 inch section of the fascia would need to be trimmed but on some models of the Q5, we've found that no trimming is required at all which is why we recommend dry fitting the bumper cover at the end of the install to determine how everything fits together. Curt tells me that the amount of trimming definitely varies from model year to model year, and they don't have info about that specific to the 2021, so you'll absolutely want...

  • Removing Bumper Beam to Install Draw-Tite 76185 Class III Trailer Hitch on 20018 Audi Q5
  • The Draw-Tite # 76183 calls for the beam to be removed and not reinstalled because their engineering shows that having the hitch in place provides just as much protection as the bumper beam. The install reuses the existing factory bolts. If you'll be using the hitch for towing purposes, I'd recommend the # 119250KIT trailer wiring harness, the # C45010 ball mount and the # 19260 trailer ball for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball. If you use the provided links, you can see install...

  • 4-Pole Wiring Harness Installation on 2012 Audi Q5
  • If you are installing a 4-pole wiring harness kit like # 119250KIT or # C59236 you'll use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 or the one included with the kit to test the vehicle's taillight wiring to find what function is carried on each one. Auto makers are not consistent with wire colors used in vehicle production, so testing is the only way to be sure you are making the correct connections. The linked videos show how to use a tester. In standard 4-pole trailer wiring harnesses like those...

  • Since your Q5 has the factory tow package, you can use the Hopkins # HM40975 which would connect to the round US Car connector located behind the rear bumper. Take a look at the linked video which will show the trailer connector being installed on a different vehicle. Even though it's being installed on a different vehicle, you can see what the connector looks like.

  • Install Instructions for Hitch on a 2014 Audi Q5
  • We don't have an install video for the hitch part # 75940 that you referenced but if you check out the link I attached you will see a detailed set of install instructions for this hitch. • How Does Tekonsha Trailer Wiring Harness # 119250KIT Wire to 2014 Audi Q5
  • A 2014 and 2016 Audi Q5 are the same generation so the install video for the trailer wiring harness part # 119250KIT that's attached below would be the correct guide to use. Looks like the blue and black wire carries the running light circuit so that gets ran to the brown wire of the harness, for the yellow wire of the harness you run that to either the gray and white wire or the gray and black wire on the left turn side of the vehicle and the same color for the right-hand side for the...

  • How to Install Curt Trailer Wiring Harness # C59236 On a 2012 Audi Q5
  • I checked with Curt to confirm the wiring harness specified for your 2012 Audi Q5 and it is indeed the Curt # C59236. I also spoke to my technical contact at Curt and he confirmed compatibility with your 2012 Q5. This harness provides isolation and protection of the vehicle electrical system from the trailer lighting. I have linked the installation instructions for this wiring harness as well as a helpful article. This is a hard-wire type harness that does not use plug-in t-connectors...

  • Locating Right Turn Signal Circuit on 2012 Audi Q5 To Install Trailer Connector
  • Because the car manufacturers can vary the vehicle wire colors from year to year, we typically tell folks to wire by function, not by color. We haven't yet installed a wiring harness on a 2012 Q5. When we installed a taillight wiring harness on a 2011 Q5, we found that the wire for the right turn will located in the upper connector and was a black wire with a green stripe (see linked video). The wire attaches to a tan plug. The plug will have many wires going into it, but each wire slot...

  • Do I Need the Curt Stabilizing Strap on My Class III Curt Hitch?
  • The Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 is usually used on Class I or Class II hitches to help distribute the weight on them. Since your hitch # C13136 for your 2013 Ausi Q5 is a Class III hitch, then it does not need the stabilizing strap. If you did want to use the strap for extra support, it would be attached to your bike rack and not your bike.

  • Trimming Required for Draw-Tite Hitch on 2012 Audi Q5
  • I have attached for you below a snip from the instructions for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75940 which is a fit for a 2012 Audi Q5.This snip goes over the details for trimming the rear bumper fascia. Unfortunately, Draw-Tite does not provide a measurement from the bottom edge so I cannot provide this. In order to find the depth of the cut you'll need to measure from the top of the rib or recessed area, down 6 1/4” which you can see in the photo below.
