An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride because the rubber has more travel.

I bought these to prevent the "squat" of carrying a load in a Ram 1500.It took only 30 minutes to install. Now when carrying a load or towing a travel trailer the truck is a better position.
The only thing you will notice is the smoothness of the ride. It's not, it is stiff. I'd rather have the stiff than the nose pointing to the moon.

It is still working as expected.

2021 Ram 1500

A bit more difficult to install than advertised or the instructions indicate, but once I figured out a trick it was easier. Jack your vehicle up a bit to get the weight off the rear axle, and install is much easier. I used multiple jacks to ensure security/safety. Once installed they work great...truck is much more level towing my boat.

The product came very fast. I already installed it the same day on my 2009 Dodge Ram pickup. It looks like it should do a fantastic job. I'll know better when I hitch up my travel trailer.

We haul and tow everything through the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas and the Tembrin suspension assist blocks are just the answer for rough and uneven roads.

2023 Ram 1500

This is the 3rd truck that I have purchased the Timbren SES system for. I tow a travel trailer, and these make a huge difference. As always, E trailer is a pleasure to deal with. Keep up the great work.

by:

These were so easy to install. Basically no tools were required for installation except for the jack.

@John That is great to hear John! That is what I love about Timbrens you get great results with zero maintenance.

Dodge Ram Pickup

Installed these myself with a jack/jack stands/chocked front wheels easily enough. Significantly improved our Ram 1500 Limited's towing especially on curves and in most situations with a 24' total length tandem axle travel-trailer around 5K lbs loaded. However, don't expect it turn your 1500 pickup into a towing experience like a leaf spring truck will give. We decided for the long road trips to move up in truck to a 3/4 ton truck eventually. But the Timbrens definitely helped for the year we used them in both towing and in turns at speed. Great product with ease of use!

2012 Dodge Ram Pickup

Super fast and easy to install. No tools required really. A jack if you want a bit of extra room. Just took a small drive unloaded around town and my ride quality was unchanged I guess nlyncouuld feel them engage when going over a speed bump at about 12 mph (faster than I would normally do it). Can’t wait to see how they perform when towing. 2024 ram 1500 Laramie

Honda Odyssey

Easy install on the Dodge 1500 - just pull out the factory bump stops and twist the timbrens into place. - Timbrens are a good product and we have installed them on several trucks and even an Odyssey van.

by:

Easy installation. Have not had a load on the truck yet. Hope it will level out the Squad

by:
2018 Ram 1500

They work great! The only thing is, I have a truck cap so when I go down the road it is bouncy, so I guess I might have to too upgrade to a stiffer coil. When I put on my dump trailer it handles great! Besides the bouncing when driving down the road it did raise the back end of my truck about 3/4 of an inch and does handle corners much nicer and braking is better.

by:

I was very impressed with the easy installation and
the performance of the product.
I can easily put a 1 yard of top soil in my Ram 1500
and my truck carry it level , no problem. No more snag
In the rear. I also find towing a trailer much better. No worries about blowing air bags, this product is maintenance free. Love it, it simple and it works great. Highly recommend

2019 Ram 1500

2019 Ram 1500 crew cab - towing 26’ travel trailer lowered rear of truck too much despite using a quality equalizer hitch. Resulted in poor handling as reported by many others.
Timbrens installed easily and carry the load well. Note- you will need to reset your equalizer hitch from scratch with Timbren’s installed.
Unloaded the truck retains very good ride quality.
For me they were the right choice. I have used airbags in other trucks in the past and would say they can be fine tuned to best optimize ride and handling over a wide variety of conditions. I chose not to go that route because of the complexity of installation on this particular truck. I’ m very satisfied how the Timbens work for me

by:
2017 Ram 1500

Definitely firmed up the rear of my Ram 1500 truck so that I could occasionally tow a tri-axle trailer with a 31 foot boat. The rear end hardly sags when I drop the trailer on it. The drawback is is makes the ride stiffer when not towing. You can defiantly feel a harsher ride on the highway. They say the bumpers don't engage when not weighed down but that's not entirely true. But, they did the job for me!

by:
2015 Ram 1500

These made a world of difference and were super simple to install. Even my wife said she felt a noticeable difference driving down the road. It felt stiffer, less push and pull and much more stable. For example, when driving down the road and hitting a dip there was less bounce and the truck seemed to rebound quicker and more solid.

We drive a 2015 Ram 1500 and tow a 28' Jayco RV travel trailer. We do have sway bars and brake control installed as well. The tow capacity is approximately 7200 pounds and the trailer is approximately 6500 to put it into perspective. The old jounce springs compared to the new are like comparing a 12oz can to a 22oz can, they are literally twice the size and feel as stiff as a lacrosse ball where the old ones felt as stiff as a tennis ball. When the jounce springs were installed the truck only drops 2" instead of 3.5" in the rear.

We are so thrilled with these installed, it gives us a heightened sense of security when towing now, the tow vehicle feels safer too. Worth every penny, strongly recommend.

After a year of use we found this was an excellent way to support the extra weight we were adding to our truck, and it doesnt affect the ride at all. We will equip our next truck the same way they work awesome!!!

by:

It helped maintain and keep the truck level while towing and also carrying a load. They were easy to install as well! The only downside is that it made the ride a little stiff but that is something I can live with. I definitely recommend this product.

2017 Ram 1500

Part was reasonably priced and arrived early. Very happy with the process.

by:

Installed easy in about 15 minutes. Popped the stock bump cushions out by hand and followed the installation instructions. Going to be on the road with my trailer soon and am looking forward to the additional support for my suspension.

by:
2019 Ram 1500 Classic

These are great. The install was just as easy as stated. Two points to keep in mind. Use the soapy water trick and the 2x4 pieces. I was able to install in less than 15 minutes. I connected my 34' travel trailer and there was only about 1 inch of squish versus the 6 inches with the old ones. I am looking forward to our next camping trip. I am towing with a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic (Warlock). Thank you for a great product.

2015 Dodge Ram Pickup

Super easy to install on my 2015 Dodge Ram 1500. Followed the directions and watched a YouTube video and they were installed super easy. Product does exactly as it says, took out a small sag in my truck when i had my 5th Wheel loaded. The new ride with a load is excellent and without a load its the same as stock. Great Product!

by:

I first started by jacking up the bed about 4" then I got under it yanked out the small factory ones, so easy. Then put some silicone on the new ones, wiggled them in place and just to make sure they were seated properly I added couple pieces of wood under them and let the jack down. Took it for a test drive over a really bad bumpier road and to my amazment I was completely satisfied .got back home and looked under it and their about a 1/2" of clearance . Still after the test drive I'm satisfied doing this prep job before I pick up my new 5th wheel . Thanks

Came quickly, easy install now excited to give it a try!

Yes, the Timbren kit part # TDR1500DS is the correct fit for your 2011 Ram 1500. This will give your rear suspension the support it needs so that it does not sag as you are towing.

For occasional towing with your 2011 Dodge Ram 1500, I would go with the Timbren suspension enhancement system. If you do not have a Quad Cab, use # TDR1500DS. If you do have a Quad Cab, use # TDR1500DQ (instructions linked for reference). The Firestone systems are good when you carrying varying sized loads and have to adjust the ride accordingly. But for occasional towing of the same trailer, the Timbren system would be the way to go.

The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TDR1500DS referenced in your question will definitely offer some improvement over any sag you are experiencing when connecting your trailer to your 2014 Ram 1500. The hollow rubber springs will sit over the rear axle to help stabilize and level your vehicle. They will provide additional support and become more rigid as more weight is added. Therefore, in your case I believe using your weight distribution system with a set of the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System part # TDR1500DQ will work well for you.
