Today on our 2014 Acura RDX were going to be installing the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C12083. Now heres what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now well go ahead and give you a couple measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately 4-1/2 inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 13-1/2 inches. Now lets go ahead and install our hitch. Were going to begin first by pointing out our mounting locations. Well start here at the passenger side.
Well be using this existing weld nut and well be using this hole right here. Now for the drivers side itll be the same as it is over here on the passenger side. Now before we begin were going to go ahead and use a half inch nylon tool brush, which is part number 814092 and a little bit of spray lubricant to clean out any dirt that may be in the existing weld nut. Now its a good idea once you have the existing weld nut cleaned out to go ahead and make sure that the bolt threads in easily. Well then go ahead and repeat the same process over on the drivers side. Next lets go ahead and point out the hardware that well be using to install our hitch. For the existing weld nut well be using a 12mm hex bolt and a half inch conical tooth washer making sure that the teeth on the washer face towards the hitch.
Now for our forward location well be using a half inch handle nut, a half inch hex bolt and a half inch conical tooth washer. The hitch in the frame of the vehicle well be in between the conical tooth washer and the handle nut. Now to install the handle nut you will have to bend it some. Now right here is the access hole to put our handle nut in, it will go in there like that. Now its a good idea to just kind of hold it up and get an idea of where youre going to have to bend it. So well line up the hole, well go ahead and take our hands and bend the handle nut down some, so it looks something like that. Well then go ahead and install it through the access hole lining it up with our mounting location.
Well then go ahead and repeat the same process over on the drivers side. Now its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you raise the hitch up into position. Now that we have our hitch up into position well go ahead and install all of our hardware just hand tight. Once we have all of our hardware hand tight we can go ahead and tighten it down the rest of the way and then well torque it to the manufacturers specification. Now once you have the hitch torqued down you can take just a pair of tin snips and cut off the excess handle nut and push the rest back up into the frame of the vehicle. And that will do it for our installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C12083 on our 2014 Acura RDX. .
