Today we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Tow-Rax Helmet Shelf with Hanging Rod, part number TWSP1HS. Our shelf is 14" long and 15" deep. The shelf can be used as a storage system to store your helmet, boots, gloves, goggles, or gear. This is designed to be used on an enclosed trailer but it could also be used in your garage or shop. It's specifically designed to attach directly to a wall and with the side rails, will help keep your gear in place. The shelf really has limitless mounting options to be installed in your trailer, garage or shop. Note, you will need to drill out the attachment points hanging to your specific wall and the hardware is not included.
Our shelf is all aluminum, even our welds, as you can see here, for a good sturdy design while still providing a lightweight shelf. Being built out of aluminum, won't rust, so it will allow us to put our wet gear on or hanging from the shelf without having to worry about corrosion. Today we're going to install the Tow-Rax shelf on the inside wall here of our enclosed trailer. We've already gone ahead and drilled out our two attachment points. We're going to just be using some self-tapping screws to secure it to the wall. Now once we've got it secured, our options for use are limitless. Helmet, gloves, or goggles whether you're out skiing, snowmobiling, dirt biking, ATVing, or we could use the removable rod which has quick pins on each side.
Simply pull the pin. Slide the rod out. We can take our goggles, hang them on the rod, along with our helmet. Slide the rod back in place and re-secure it with a pin. Then that would leave our shelf available for such gear as maybe our ski, dirt bike or motorcycle boots. We could also use our rod for hanging our extra clothes or maybe letting it dry out after a day of riding.
We have the slots in the sides. It would be perfect for hanging straps or bungee cords when not in use. Keeping our gear and equipment organized and secured when traveling down the road. Additionally, if we had enough equipment here on the shelf, we could use the bungee cord to secure the equipment by using the slots on both sides. I repurposed this shelf for use as a car battery charging station mounted to the wall in my garage. It works perfectly - I installed some rubber grommets in the slots, ran the wires through them to the 110V wall socket and the others to the car batteries, it works great! The shelf is well constructed, sturdy and allows the charger lights to be easily seen at a glance. I've ordered many different items from the folks at etrailer, they are fantastic, knowledgeable and always provide fast service. They are my go-to people for all things trailer related and other items as well.
