Yakima CoreBars - 50" Long - Qty 2:Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today on our 2018 Ford Edge, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima CoreBar Roof Rack System. Now, the main thing that separates this roof rack system with others is the crossbars are made out of a steel that's covered in a nice hard plastic. Now, this increases the maximum load capacity to 220 pounds, but you will want to check in your Edge's owner's manual to make sure your roof can support that. Go ahead and use whichever number is lower. Now, because of the crossbar's steel design, it only accepts the use of clamp-on style accessories. From the bottom to the top of the roof you have three inches of clearance. Now our crossbars are held in place by four baseline towers, which feature a rubber coating.
That way, we don't damage, or harm, our vehicle's finish. All the hardware is covered by our covers, here. For extra security, you can purchase Yakima Locking Cores that insert here. Our baseline towers are held in place by these clips, which are also rubber coated. That way, we don't damage the vehicle's finish. Now that we've gone through the features, we'll go ahead and walk you through an install.
Now, we already have the front bar installed for you. To find its placement, per the instructions, we're going to measure 14 inches from the front of the windscreen to the front of the pad. You do that for both sides. Now, the rear one installs very similar. We'll go ahead and show you that now.Now it's time to install the mounting hardware to our bar.
This side is already done. So it's time to move onto this side. First, grab your baseline tower and your rubber pad assembly. Snap them together, you'll hear it click. Make sure that the indented part faces outward.
Grab your mounting plastic clip, here, we're going to pop that into place. You'll hear it click. You're going to install our bracket, here, and make sure . Eyeball it to make sure you have it going the right way. What you'll do, insert it. With our included tool, just give it a few turns and tighten it loosely. That way we have a little bit of play in it.Go ahead, we'll slide it onto our bar. Now, per our instructions, from the center of our bar, which is indicated by this arrow, we're going to measure 19 and 15-sixteenths of an inch. We're going to want that measurement to end at the beginning of our baseline tower, here. Let's take that measurement. All right. Looks like we're right there. Now, when you snug this bolt up, here, make sure it's in the center of the three indicators. Our included tool has a built-in torquing device, so go ahead and turn it until it clicks. Come back to the mounting bracket and turn that until it clicks. Now that we have the mounting hardware assembled, let's go ahead and set our bar on the Edge's roof very carefully. Now, in order to find our placement of the rear bar, we're going to have to take a few measurements. Per the instructions, we're going to measure from the front of the rear bar to the front of the front bar. We're looking for 32 inches. All right, so we're spot-on there. Now, make sure to do the other side. All right, look good there. We're going to grab our fit clips and install these right here. They just simply push in there. Now that both of our clips are in place, they're going to need to be adjusted. Now, we'll do that by taking our torque tool and, first, adjusting this bolt to remove any play out of the clip and it's nice a flush against our door rail, here. And by adjusting this, we'll tighten it up in small increments from side-to-side to pull the roof rack down evenly. Go to this side, perform the same procedure. We'll keep tightening until our tool clicks, and the click lets us know that the proper torque has been achieved. You can hear there. Close these caps simply by pushing down on them. Go ahead and install our end caps, and those install by just inserting them into the tube, pushing them in.Lastly, we're ready for our flush-mount caps. And those install by taking the bottom hooks, get those started first, give them a good push, you'll hear them click. Now that we have our Yakima Roof Rack System installed on our Ford Edge, we're ready to hit the road with roof mounted accessories. Things like cargo boxes, bike racks, and more. That concludes our test fit of our Yakima CoreBar Roof Rack System on our 2018 Ford Edge.

These crossbars combine the strength of steel with an aerodynamic shape to create a heavy-duty yet quiet roof rack for your vehicle. Full-length bars maximize cargo carrying capacity and work with most clamp-on accessories.Excellent solution for my 2023 Chevy Silverado. In the past, I have had rails installed on the roof of my pickup trucks, but I find the BaseLine towers to be a better solution, since they don't permanently change the truck. Plus, they are much more solid than SkyLine system on the rails.
Follow the instructions, and you can't go wrong on the self installation
I've just recently installed this setup on my 2015 Toyota Camry.
etrailer - Shopping for this rack was fairly simple, and the shipping from etrailer was quick and reliable. I received the rack in 2 different shipments but they both arrived at the same time. etrailer made sure the all the contents were available. They also have several resourceful videos on their YouTube page, which was helpful while shopping for the rack and during a few trouble shooting items while I was installing.
Yakima Core Bar - Overall a quality product. Everything necessary was supplied, including a handy measuring tape and some very well written instructions. The fit is clean and very sturdy. The only qualm I have is that the hex hole in the large anchor bolts are a bit larger than the supplied hex driver. Toward the end of the installation, the tool was worn and ended up turning inside the bolt itself (not due to over torquing whatsoever). I ended up having to use a hex set I had in my toolbox to complete the installation because the provided tool was starting to strip out the anchor bolt. With that said, the kit is still a great kit that meets my expectations.
Wind noise is quieter than my OEM VW bars on my 2017 Volkswagen GTI. It's noticeable, but nothing extreme - I believe that's just the price you pay when adding crossbars to a vehicle.
Verdict - etrailer has definitely met my expectations, and the Yakima kit provided is a well designed kit that fits well!
From start to finish, the folks at etrailer -- and I spoke to several people there, so it was a consistent corporate vibe -- were fantastic to deal with.
There were delays in getting my product that were on the supplier side and out of etrailer's control, yet etrailer folks kept me up to date and also worked on a customized solution.
My goal was to be able to carry my surfboard on the roof of our 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe to the beach more than 3 hours away. But the particular model we had had no existing racks, no recessed areas, nothing to fix racks to. Not even the dealer had a solution. I was sh*t out of luck.
But etrailer hooked me up. The racks did take me a while to put on, but most of that time was fine tuning to reduce “hum” while driving. I’m very happy with them.
Thanks to etrailer, I have gone surfing and can go surfing whenever I'd like to.
Really easy to install & work as specified. So happy with the customer support/service at etrailer.
Your notice of schemes was a lot better than the yakima site provided. They did not suggest the scheme you did.
But when the products arrived, the instructions were by yakima. Generally worked as instructed except the tower to tower transverse mounting dimensions needed to be tweaked for a perfect fit.
Love my Yakima roof rack!! It exceeds my expectations.great product. Also thank etrailer for the tec support! great staff always there to help thanks again!!
As described! Quick delivery!
Ackage came 2 days early the install was somewhat easy (did it by myself)
Did not get to mount anything to it but seems really sturdy. One thing I can say is mark out your mounting points with provided stickers then put up and make adjustments to the roof rack.
Great product great service
Very good product. The Yakama towers and cross bars feel very solid and appears to be high quality. Very easy install. Others have complained about the instructions, but guess I'm a visual person because the pictures all seemed very clear to me and the install was very easy. They do sit higher than I expected. After adding a Rhino Rack cargo basket, we only have about 4-5" clearance below the garage door.
Solid build quality and easy installation on my '21 Mazda CX-5.
So far so good. Purchased these towers to use on a 2022 GMC Canyon with HD bars that I already had, primarily to carry my canoe. Yakima's fitting instructions worked perfectly and the whole system seems really solid.
Well packaged and on time
These crossbars feel like they are well made and sturdy. It took less than 30 minutes to install with the Ridgeline Towers. I love the look of the bars! Can't wait to load the Kayaks up and get out on the water.
Should include extra end caps just in case they fall off.
Roof rack fits and works as advertised. Over the phone customer support for sales and install directions were very helpful and thorough. Geoff is an excellent brand ambassador who goes above and beyond to fulfill customer expectations. I will definitely be shopping at etrailer for my future vehicle needs. Well done!
Timely delivery of my order, as usual! Easy to install on my 2015 4Runner. After I had the mounts ready and put on both bars, I installed the front one and fine-tuned it, the second took even less time then. I now have the ability to carry up to 3 kayaks, perfect! etrailer is a great company!
My experience with etrailer has been excellent. There was going to be a potential delay in one of the products, but their customer service promptly informed me, half the price of some of their competitors so can't really complain. In the end they got the part ahead of schedule and was able to ship in a timely manner. I will definitely keep them in mind for future purchases.
Very sturdy, well made. The assembly instructions are not too good but if you call Yakima they will provide additional instructions.
Customer service was excellent, they called me to tell me one item was backordered and how long it would be. Package was shipped with enough packing material. Install was pretty easy, some of the Yakima measurements in the manual are a couple inches off but no big deal. This will be used to carry a box for when the family takes trips. Can pile all the luggage up top and have more room in the car. I would recommend the Yakima corebar roof rack and etrailer! Their price was lower than 2 other sites I checked.
I am thrilled this got delivered sooner than anticipated! It was quite easy to install once you started actually putting it together and measuring everything out. I like that this can easily be removed and installed onto the vehicle.
Very happy with the Yakima roof top rack kit for my 2017 Ford Edge with glass roof. The instructions were a little confusing at first, but after reading through them a couple of times while working with the product they became much clearer. The Yakima fit site was helpful as well. After the initial cross bar mounting measurements and set up, attaching and detaching the racks from the roof is a very simple process.
Great product fast shipping
Great! Easy to install!
