Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a brief look together at this Landing Pad 8 for your Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers. Now these are going to provide mounting points for your Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers. And these pads are going to fit vehicles that have factory track racks, and they're going to attach to the factory tracks with anchor plates and screws. And it does include, as you've already seen here, the snap-on covers that are going to provide protection for you when the Towers are not in place. You are going to receive everything that you see here on my table.
You're gonna get the two pads, the hardware, and the hex tool there, along with instructions to guide you through the simple installation process. Well, that's gonna wrap up our real quick look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.

The landing pad for the 2024 RAV4 has only one screw to hold it in place. Do not over-tighten that screw, that will result in the width of the connection holes on the pad bowing and moving closer together, then the sky tower attachment will not fit into the mounting location. The Yakama installation instructions did not directly address this potential.
The landing pad for a 2004 Honda CR-V used two screws for each pad, and the issue did not occur.

Great quality! They come with two different style bases. One flat, and one that is stepped to account for the raised area near the gutter trim. Good variety of screws to meet your application. My 2015 Mazda 3 (with fixed points) needed the medium length screws. Seems very solid!
I left the plastic gutter moldings on and just drilled holes for the screws to go through.

Landing Pad 23 fits my RAV4 Prime perfectly. No issues in the install other than the torque might be more than needed as it deforms the cars roof rail and the fitting (pad) deforms so that the male mount on the racks won't fit. I had to open them up by loosening the bolt to the point it would fit. All good!

Yakima Landing Pad 22 is the only product I could find that is suitable for my Mercedes E450 Coupe. The car's panoramic glass extends close to where the fixed mounting points are, but Yakima has accounted for that by designing the LP 22 so that the small part that sits on the glass is not transferring the load. Also, the LP22 accommodates the flip-open doors for the four fixed mounting points on the Mercedes. Yakima instruction manual and etrailer.com videos are highly useful.
Only complaint is with the LP 22 Covers, which are supplied for when the roof rack (Towers and Crossbars) are removed. These covers are not usable - they do not snap into place and appear as if they were designed for a different landing pad. This is not a deal breaker for me because I remove the LP 22s whenever I remove the roof rack, but it will likely be a concern for others.

The materials are high quality and finished well. Tightening the bolts causes the receivers to bow inward and made it very difficult to install the Skyline tower base.

I didn’t buy a fuel-efficient vehicle with a sunroof so that I could drive around with a roof rack! This rack system goes on and off so quickly and easily, saving me fuel economy and freeing up my sunroof. It’s been a year and it’s been great.

Used these on my 2011 BMW 335. It took a little while to get the threads to catch on the roof attachment the first time I installed them. Otherwise they do what they are supposed to do and don't scratch the roof.

Product required a bit of customizing because the pads are a little tall and hollow, so when you tighten center bolt, pad will try to collapse inwards unless you find a proper spacer in length under the pad (NOT PROVIDED BY YAKIMA, NOT ETRAILER'S FAULT), but once that spacer was put in place, it turned out beautifully.

The fit is good, but there was a mistake in Yakima’s fit guide for my 2020 Kia Soul. Yakima said to use the 28mm screws but those would not reach the threads. The 33mm screws (which were also included) worked perfectly.
