Surco RV Ladder Dimensions

Your solar panels or AC is on the fritz on a hot day, and you need to quickly climb to the roof to look at them. Or perhaps there are leaves and branches on top and you want to brush them off before retracting the slide outs to head home. This exterior ladder attaches to the rear or side wall of your RV, camper, or motorhome, so you can safely access equipment on the roof for maintenance and cleaning. And because it's made of durable aluminum construction, it won't rust when it rains during a camping trip or snows when your RV is in storage during the off season.

Prepping for Installation

First, choose which wall you want to install the assembled ladder. Traditionally, this ladder would mount on the back, but you can also mount it onto the side, especially if your RV has a rear awning. And for this ladder to be safe to climb, you'll need to install it onto the studs in the wall. If you're unsure where the studs are, use a stud finder (not included).

Installs onto Your RV or Camper

This ladder can be cut it to fit your RV or camper. To see how tall of a ladder you need, just measure the distance between the top of your RV down to where you want to attach the bottom of the ladder on your RV wall. Add 8" to that measurement to account for the ladder's arms. Then use a cutter or hacksaw (not included) to trim the ladder until it's a perfect fit.

Surco RV Ladder Installation

Then the ladder bolts onto the roof and wall of your RV with the included mounting hardware. If the ladder isn't a direct replacement, or if your RV doesn't currently have a ladder, drilling will be required.

Surco RV Ladder Mounting Brackets

You can pivot the mounting brackets at the top of the ladder to ensure it sits flush with your RV roof, even if your roof is curved in the back or on the sides. This allows you to position the angle of the ladder so that it remains parallel to the back wall of the RV. If the roof is curved on the sides, trim the vertical section of the arm furthest away from the side of the RV, which will eliminate the difference in the slope between the arms of the ladder.

Surco RV Ladder Standoffs

Then position the 4 included standoffs (or ladder supports) along the ladder to help keep it secure to your RV when it's being climbed or when you're driving to the campsite. Drilling into the ladder is required to mount the standoffs. If you want the ladder to have even more stability, you can add additional standoffs (SPN-416 - sold separately).

Well George, I feel you have a great product. Its strong and it supports me everytime I use it.
I am 200 plus. It's been a year and I live in this travel trailer all the time. So when I have to get up on the roof and wash out the condenser coils every 3 months. I truly enjoyed it.
Would I buy this product again, you betcha. I trust it with my weight and something tells me I won't have to replace it soon.
It's a great ladder

by:

Like usual, the product is even better than the original, AND even better than the description! I use the comments to prepare myself for any limitations (this item was warned to have a "need for better Instructions"). It is so nice to have every trailer item I order be better than expected! This Ladder kit is designed to fit any RV shape or application and is an excellent value.

After a year this ladder was a good choice. It allows me to clean & service roof top items without having to haul or borrow a step ladder. My ladder is for access only, as I dont haul items on the roof of my Jayco travel trailer.

by:

I had to return this because I measured wrong. It seems to be well built. The service person (Kim) was very pleasant to work with. She even helped me reorder the one that I needed.

by:

The ladder looks good, and seems sturdy enough for what it is. However, the labeling of the length is completely misleading. One would think you would measure from your bumper to your roof, and the ladder would be specified for that measurement. No. It goes at least a foot above the roof, meaning that the bottom of the ladder is a foot higher than you want it to be. Getting onto this ladder would be really, really hard. The assembly instructions are also completely inadequate. No information about where to locate it, how to seal holes, etc. Photo shows how short it is (uninstalled)... our trailer isn't particularly tall.

We're going to need a different ladder.

by:

The ladder is installed and looks good. Quality and fit are good. The only suggestion I would make would be for the manufacturer to consider stainless fasteners as this is an outside ladder and rust will be a problem.

by:

did not fit
i emailed with a question

We definitely want to assist you. It looks like we sent an email back so I am not sure what happened there. In what way is the ladder not fitting for you? From your previous email the top of the ladder seemed too narrow as compared to your original ladder. I know that if the ladder is not a direct replacement then drilling may be required to install. Did you have a chance to see if it could be installed.

by:

The ladder seems quite good. I am NOT happy with UPS. My package got to Orlando quickly, but sat in Orlando for three days. It would have been faster if they used mules.

by:

I have to cut 2" off the top end and use the old round mounting flanges under the new rectangular ones to use the existing holes, but it should all work fine. Can't mount it until spring - camper is in winter storage.

Gary

10/29/2021

Worked fine, also loops on top end dont stand up as tall as old ladder which is good.

by:

The ladder is as advertised. Very easy to install. It would be better with SS screws and bolts. Made in US a bonus.
There was a screwup with the Post Office (their fault) and Heather in customer service was a wonderful help.
I will continue to do business with etrailer.

The ladder has been a good addition to the camper. I definitely would recommend it.

by:

Have had a lot of problems with this ladder. It is nice looking, but not strong at all. It broke the first time I used it. Pipes just knuckles and broke. Ended up reinforcing it with galvanized pipe inside the existing tubing.

This ladder has a one inch heavy-gauge aluminum construction and a weight capacity of 250 pounds. I checked and we do not offer a ladder with a higher capacity.

by:

Outstanding piece of hardware. Easily assembled. Instructions are not written for a novice. If you are reasonably handy you'll have no problems. If you don't know the difference between a machine screw and a sheet metal screw by sight or touch, get help.

Fabulous

by:

this ladder is high quality, however the jointing screws will scrape you hands when climbing up and down, I used stainless steel rivets instead. The mounting screws seamed like they would back out after time, so I borrowed a"nut zert" kit and bought stainless steel screws to mount it.I would have to make these modifications to any ladder I bought, however I have been looking for a rv ladder for a wile and this by far the most sturdy well made best fitting one I have found.Great price, fast shipping and made in USA ,what a deal! thank you!

by:

An excellent ladder, exactly as advertised. All the parts were there and installation was easy.

Im very happy with the ladder. It was easy do it yourself project. I would highly it.

by:

Easy install, I suggest to add when installing to thru bolts with nuts and washers to ensure a safe installation.

by:

Easy to install, looks great. I think the ladder should come with stainless hardware to prevent rusty, corroded screws and bolts. It should also have a backing plate for the mounting brackets to prevent a possible wear hole in the RV surface. I would not mind paying a few bucks more for better hardware.

by:

The ladder arrived on time in good condition. I needed it to replace the original equipment ladder on my trailer. All the parts necessary were included. After a few modifications I was able to make it fit back into the original mountings. It looks great. The only suggestion I would have is to provide stainless steel mounting nuts & bolts to minimize rust.

by:

We are very happy with the camper ladder that we ordered from etrailer. The order process was simple, the delivery was prompt, and the product was of the best quality. The instructions were easy to understand, and we had it installed in minimal time. We would highly recommend etrailer for any and all of your camper needs, and the service and quality were stellar.

by:

First of all etrailer is great. I buy hundreds of items per year online and etrailer has the best communication by far. They were very quick to inform me of status of the order when there was a problem.

But I will say that I agree with what I have seen others say about this ladder. It is nice looking and I am guessing it is durable. But [online store] could avoid a lot of negative reviews and calls if they would spend an hour adding pictures and more details to their one page of instructions.

I am an engineer and I won't have any problems, but for a casual do it yourselfer, I can see why it might be problematic to figure this out. [online videos] are your friends.

by:

Seems to be a good product, installation was not bad, you just need a little knowledge to mount it

by:

All worked out. Had to do some slight modification to have it fit into the existing holes for attachment. No Problem. The shipping box was quite beat up and the zip lock that held the jiblets had come open. Luckily the parts were contained. Will do business with you anytime

by:

The ladder was what it was supposed to be, shipping was spotless and the delivery time was swift. Not much else one can say about a ladder or the supplier. Excellent all around.

No pictures, I traded the RV.

by:

As promised, installation went fine, included hardware did the trick.

by:

Excellent customer service. George was promptly keeping us updated on the status of my order. The ladder was super easy to install and is super convenient!

by:

Easy installation plenty of space for your feet on the steps still looks great

by:

It arrived on time, easy installation, works as described.

  • Can 2012 Jayco 23RBS Have Ladder Installed on Rear of It
Sounds like you are concerned about whether you can install a ladder on your 2012 Jayco 23RBS or due to the roof of the motorhome not having enough backing or support. This is a very valid question that can only really be answered by Jayco. Most likely the roof is reinforced but only Jayco would be able to tell you exactly where that bracing would be. The Surco part # SP502L is a very universal style of ladder that would work well most likely. It's 84-1/2 inches tall overall.
