When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Today, we're going to take a look at the JR products 14-1/2 inch long gas shock. Now this is a quick and easy replacement for any worn or broken gas shock you may have. This will replace a gas shock on multiple applications like your RV or trailer doors, storage compartment doors, truck bed covers, or even fold down camper beds. This shock is designed with the high quality black-nitride shaft and includes plastic ends on each end with locking clips to secure it to the mounting ball. The connection tight for this is a 10 millimeter ball socket that this will install on. And this does install very easily in minutes. There's no special tools required.

All you really need is a small flathead or flat tip screwdriver to install it. So I want to zoom in just to show you what you want to do on the old shock to remove it.You'll take your flat tip screwdriver, pop it under that clip. Raise that clip enough to where it'll release the pressure and you can pop it off the ball and do the same on this end. And then to put the new one back on. Again, you'll just raise that clip enough.

You don't have to remove it from the shock. You just raise it up enough. So it releases the pressure. Do it on that end. Push it over the ball, push that clip back down, and it's all secured and ready to go.Very simple installation.

Now, when you do install this, you do want this inner rod portion, this portion right here, facing down. And it's also recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. A few dimensions on this. The extended length, which is measured from the center of the socket to the center of this socket, is going to be right at 14-1/2 inches. The compress length, in other words when this would be fully compressed would be 8.91 inches.

And the output for on the shock is 35 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the JR products 14-1/2 inch long gas shock.

Solid built and quality product.

The selection process was easy to follow. I needed gas struts with a greater lift capacity for our under bed storage due to the addition of a memory foam mattress. I was able to select a strut pair with the proper length and extension from the website. The struts were received quickly and were exactly what I needed. The bed now raises gently and remains elevated.

by:

When my package arrived it was beat up and one of the clips on the end of the shock was missing, not what I would give a good report !!

by:

Item was exactly as advertised, easy installation, fits perfectly on our RV door. Our previous gas shock was worn out & would not hold the door open. This product is sturdy & stable. It fixed the issue.

by:

This strut did not fit precisely due to the thickness of the end connectors. They are thicker than the original strut and since the strut has to fit between the bottom of the door and the threshold in the closed position it would not allow the door to close. I found that by exchanging the end connectors with the original strut I was able to install the strut and close the door. The only problem with this solution is that the new strut with the old connectors is slightly longer than the old strut/connector assembly and now allows the door to open slightly farther than before. Our awning arm just barely clears the door when opening and closing so will have to be very careful from now on when extending and retracting the awning. Our motorhome is a Sunseeker 3010ds model in case this is helpful to others ordering this product.

by:

Exactly what I needed for my Kwik Kamp motorcycle trailer! It's nice to share information in our group when we find parts to use for our discontinued campers.

by:

Product is installed but instructions were a bit vague and difficult to implement(related to the removal of previous gas shock bar).

by:

product works well, shipping took a little longer than I expected

by:

Very fast delivery! I've ordered from e-trailer several times and service has always been great!

by:

Thanks, now my tool box won't cut my arm off.

by:

These work great for toolbox lid

by:

The head that attached to the bottom door jamb was way to huge couldn't close the door I was able to switch the one from the old strut the thread size not the same I had to force it on most likely will pull off I ordered the 30 pound for my fifth wheel door if people ask the 20 pound model is the correct size but I chose the 30 pound my mistake

by:

Price is right and product fit and functioned well for my application on a Leer truck topper rear glass door

by:

This fit my 05 Bigfoot 9.6 camper door with about 3/8 compression left. This is the shock you want. It has a slow open feature and does not slam the door open possibly risking tearing the mounts off. So no worries about people who just open the door and head out. We used to have to coax the door open. Not you can let go of it. Love this shock!!

by:

This company is excellent always willing to help with questions and always have items in stock. Shipping right on time and fair prices. Hats off for a company that stills has customers interest their top priority.
Thank you

by:

Works great haven't had any problems with it, would buy again if I ever needed it

by:

The Stabilus shock holding the 22" door of our bumper pull trailer open was weak. Mild wind would push it shut. This shock fit right onto the existing ball joints. A small blade screwdriver pried the "c" clip back, allowing me to slip the socket over the ball, and the clip snapped into place. Maybe 30 seconds and the shock was installed.

The biggest challenge was determining what force I needed in the replacement. The existing shock had the model information scraped away where it rubbed on the door threshold. No where could I find on the etrailer site what force a small door shock should be. I ended up chatting with an RV service tech I know, who looked it up in his parts catalog. Turns out 10 lb force is standard except for large RV doors. I would suggest etrailer.com add this information on their online catalog. Maybe it's there and I couldn’t' find it? "Gas shock force needed for RV doors."

by:

Exactly what I needed delivered in a timely manner

by:

Defective Will not allow door to close. Stops about 4 inches before door closes. Took one of the end fittings off and repaired my old one. Length and pressure matched.

by:

Product was damaged and not received, but etrailer stepped up and sent another gas prop. More companies should have these work ethic’s. Good job

by:

fit and worked great

by:

This item was not an exact fit but it was very close and it worked. My thanks to Josh for his help and time he spent with me to figure it out. The difficulty was there was no part number or part to use or measure. Josh was working in the blind and lucky for me it worked.

by:

Great customer service and prompt delivery.
I haven't installed them yet but look to be the exact replacement part for the current ones in my camper.

by:

Overall, I was satisfied with the process as well as as quality and condition of the door opener. I was fortunate that the opener fit correctly. There was some dissatisfaction that your web site offered little in the way of cross-reference data for a direct replacement with the existing opener on my trailer. Also, considering that the item was in stock, delivery took longer than I had anticipated.
