Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most lids, covers, or hatches have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.
How to Find the Right Gas Strut for Your Application
Determining which gas strut is right for your application is easy. All you need to do is remove your worn-out strut and locate the force printed on the side of the tube:
Then, pull the rod out so it's fully extended and take the following measurements:

Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this universal gas strut lift support arm. This is gonna replace one lift support arm for your truck cover, boat hatch, toolbox, or other application. This is going to extend to help hold your lid or hatch open. It's gonna give you a little bit of assistance there as you're opening it.
And then it's going to gently compress while closing, so you don't have to worry about your hatch slamming closed, potentially damaging equipment or catching your fingers in there. This does have these 10-millimeter nylon ball socket connectors that are going to very easily snap onto your 10-millimeter ball studs. From the center of one ball socket to the center of the other, we're looking at right about 26 inches. When we have this compressed, it's going to have a compressed length of 14 5/8 of an inch. So our stroke here is gonna be 11 3/8 of an inch.
And this does compress with a 70 to 80 pound force, and that's the equivalent of approximately 312 to 356 newtons. So it is going to give us quite a bit of assistance as we're raising our lid or hatch, and then it's gonna give us a good amount of resistance as we're closing it, to make sure it's not going to slam shut. This does also feature dampening technology. That's gonna provide a nice smooth operation. So it's going to eliminate that bouncing and jumping that you sometimes experience with other similar items.
It's going to ensure that no matter what kind of weather condition you find yourself in, whether it's freezing and snowy or bright and sunny, this is gonna have a nice frictionless movement. This steel shaft is coated with a nitride coating. So it is going to be corrosion resistant to give you a nice long-lasting performance. And this does come with a limited lifetime warranty. So if you we're to have any problems with it, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com.
But as long as you're needing that 26-inch length when it's extended down to that 14 5/8 of an inch retracted length with that 70 to 80 pound force, this is gonna be a great option for you. So that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
They worked perfect. Glad I made the purchase at etrailer
