Works great... Follow the instructions... Now my boat can be stored inside my garage for the winter...

by:

Really great. Extremely well made. So happy to get my trailer into my garage. Installation was straightforward and eTrailer's install videos were excellent. My only wish would be that the pin had a larger hole at the bottom so I could put a padlock through it.

by:

Works great, easy installation

by:

If you're looking for trailer parts, there's no place else to go.
Exceptional service and quick delivery.

Instalation was pretty straightforward, worth the investment, no more banging my shins on the trailer tongue.

by:

Installation was easy. I installed it in a Shorland'r trailer. It took me about 2 - 3 hours including clean-up. I am 100% satisfied! All the hardware, Torx drive, prick punch and safety stickers were included. Instructions were clear and easy to follow, but I was surprised it called for torque of 75Lbs. on each bolt. Tools used were a pencil, square, high tension hack saw (18TPI), file, prick punch (included), hammer, safety glasses, 18V portable drill w/ 1/8, 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2 bits, Torx socket (included), 3/4 box-end wrench, 12" adjustable wrench & torque wrench. I also added a sheath to the wiring to reduce any chaffing that may occur across the new hardware. You may want to consider additional safety chains depending on haw far back you reinstall them on the tongue. One other note: The 3x3 box tube tongue on my trailer was a bit small. The coupler easily slid over the 3x3 box tube. I had to draw up the bolts to ensure a tight fit. I used a large adjustable wrench on the Torx socket with a small length of pipe on the end of the wrench (for mechanical advantage purposes). It drew up and tightened just fine. Overall, it was an easy install. It did exactly what I bought it to do!

Scott, I am considering buying this item. Your trailer appears to be similar in stature to mine, a Karavan 1500 roller with a 16 lund. Fulton calls out .122 inches minimum thickness for the tongue and mine mics out at only .106 inches. I called Fulton and their tech dept. would not recommend the install due to liability of course. My tongue length would be 2 or less. I was wondering if you checked your tongue thickness and if it may fall short like mine does? If so since youve had yours for a couple years now, have you noticed any issues? Slop or play in the bolt connections, or anything similar that would go to steel thickness? I am considering installing anyway and I would value your in the field experience especially if your steel happens to be a bit skinny also. Thanks.

Scott

9/11/2014

Hi Ken:I do not recall putting a micrometer on the wall thickness. I think I got it off the Shorlandr data I had in the manual or on-line. Nevertheless, in my comments I did note my box tube was a bit small and had to use some mechanical advantage to draw it tight.I never had any issues whatsoever with any of the Fulton hardware or installation. Everything works perfectly. It has been rock solid. I would not be too concerned with your wall thickness as the boat, motor and trailer are not all that heavy. It will certainly not over stress the Fulton hardware. If you were maxing out the weight limits I might be more concerned.Good luck!Scott...

Today (7/17/22), I installed my new Fulton fold-away hinge kit. I am meticulous about my work and as a result, this project took me most of the day to complete but it came out very nice. In addition to the hinge kit, I added a two foot extension, a new coupler (as the original was worn out), and longer safety chains. I still need to reconnect the wiring. I am very happy with the result. Thank you etrailer for all the great products and services that you provide. I have included photos of my work.

The folding trailer tongue is very strong and stable, and after one year of regular use I have not had any issues with it. I get compliments on it all the time and people are always asking me where I got it and who installed it. I got it from etrailer and the installer would be me. Thanks again.

by:

Haven't towed it yet, but install was easy and documentation was good. I didn't realize a transfer punch was included in the installation kit until about 1/4 through making holes, but when I used it it was even better.

Kevin

1 yr out and no issues with the fold away coupler. Have only towed it a couple of times short distances though.

by:

Product was exactly as represented. Well made, and a perfect fit. This bolt on version (there is also one that can be welded) is a pretty big job especially if you are working alone. You'll need some high quality drill bits and several hours of working time, but the end result is worth the effort. If space in your garage is a problem, this may be the answer. It will fold the trailer tongue out of the way and save approximately 24 to 30 inches of trailer length. Allowed me to get my boat into the garage and out of the weather.

Product is still working fine. No complaints.

Hi there . I just want to say this swing out hinge is great love how easy it is to install and use . I'm done with the install and I need to add my safety chain . But hear are some pics of my install and a new hitch as well.

Johnnie

3/11/2015

There has been no issues so far . It mostly gets used in the summer time . But it great Thanks.

by:

Works great in extending tongue length by 36" for ramps that are not steep. All wiring and safety chains contained inside tongue tube. Chains and wiring zip tied together so a simple pull on chain allows tongue to be moved to towing position. Allows Power Caster usage to place trailer in garage with tongue folded.

Great

by:

This is a great product! Very well made, easy to install, and the convenience of folding the tongue out of the way is by far it’s greatest selling point. The hinge was designed to be stronger than the tube itself, and it truly is. I have absolutely no fear of it failing. My only regret is that I don’t own the patent on this product.

It’s working just as it was designed to flawlessly. Couldn’t be more pleased.

by:

great add on feature to my utility trailer!
by
adding this fold away coupler to my existing 4X8 trailer tongue and a 40" additional tube, my trailer is more versatile for my uses, with the longer tongue it is easier to back up without Jackknifing, I can add canoe racks and carry 18' canoes nicely balanced over the axle and no worry of hitting the back of the vehicle. when trailer is not in use folding the tongue back out of the way is nice for garage storage or driveway space.
my trailer is rated at 2200# capacity, and by the charts provided by Fulton, the tongue length I added matches the rating of the coupler.
installation directions were good, hardware is good quality.

by:

Great product and interchangeable/compatible with Fulton's 2013 hinge kit. I used half of new kit for a 10' tongue extension for sailboat launching. See photo. This was an easier tongue extension to build than telescoping types that I made for previous boats. Use doesn't follow Fulton's installation rules, but I only use for launching and loading boat; not driving down the road.
Kit came without torx bolts, punch and drive tool, 5/8" hinge bolt and hitch pin. Called etrailer and they sent missing parts quickly.
Photos show extension, knee brace and trailer storage brackets.

by:

This product was exactly what I needed to fulfill three objectives:
1) I needed to lengthen the tongue of my trailer and yet fit the trailer and boat in my garage too.
2) The longer tongue allows me to keep my wheels out of the water, especially since the drought in CA has necessitated going beyond the ramps.
3) I find that a longer tongue makes it easier to back the trailer and is better for towing.
The product is very sturdy and easy to use.

by:

Looks strong, heavy and sturdy. Good ma terial.

Is strong. Works perfect. Easy installation. Solid construction. Confident it will not fail. Made and easy solution to losing 6 inches of my garage back wall spray foam insulation and boat no longer fitting!

by:

I have installed my hinge and all went well. I haven't had a chance to take it out and pull it down the road, but I suspect all will go well. The installation went well and it was actually pretty easy to put on. I have included a few pictures of my install if you need them for anything.

Thanks

Tom G.

6/7/2018

It is still working well. I dont use my boat a lot but the hinge does just what I wanted it to do. I can now fit the boat in my garage and close the door since I can collapse the tongue of the trailer. Thanks for your followup

by:

Best accessory yet for my 17' Tracker & trailer. Fits nicely in my garage now. Installation, although time consuming, was easy - the directions were spot on. Now I just need to get extensions for my safety chains so I can mount behind the fold-away bracket. Would recommended this for anyone needing to take advantage of the limited space.

by:

Well ordered in Oct 2021 and finally received Mar 2022. The good part is when order the price was about $xxx and the current price is about $xxx. I guess that is one way to limit extreme inflation. I think the quality could be better. The nuts were rough on the bolts.
The nuts have a strike on the side preventing a socket from being used. Not sure the purpose of the strike but it made installation more difficult. Perhaps it is a security feature because taking off will also be more difficult
Haven’t road tested yet but overall glad I have a swing away tongue

Tongue works well. Impressed there has been no rust. I also put a long through the guide hole which makes the boat trailer more difficult to steal as the tongue can’t be straightened because of the lock. Happy with the product

by:

I am very happy with my purchase of the Fulton fold away coupler hinge kit. It is great quality and allows me to fold back the tongue for easy storage in my garage, driveway, or storage unit.

by:

Solidly built product, fairly straightforward installation. One issue is the part did not have the holes in it for the dampening plugs it came with (little rubber bumpers sandwiched between the swing ends). I had to drill two 1/4 holes in the cast piece which ruined two drill bits...

by:

I purchased this folding trailer tongue device so that I could park my 16' Boston Whaler Dauntless in the garage and still have room for a car. It worked just fine and I can tell no difference in the way the trailer tows. It is very sturdy device and I have complete cofidence in its strength. I must admit I was a bit anxious about cutting my trailer tongue (31"), but it worked fine. I used a circular saw with a metal blade first and then finished the cut with a saw jaws. After that a good drill and bits are critical. The directions were good and I followed them closely. I wish I had done it last year, my car would not have had to stay outside.

by:

The Fulton Fold-Away Coupler Hinge is perfect well build will last for many years. The hitch will be use on Scuba diving boat in Monterey Bay.

by:

Bought a used boat and it needed to fit in the garage. This was the best option and it turned out great. The product details were a big help for the fit and installation. Took about 2 hours and make sure you have a good bit to drill the holes. I stumbled on to etrailers website and no need to look any further. It's hard not to get the right part with all the details and pictures they provide. I have bought several items and the quality is high, price is fair and ships on time. I've sent my buddies your way and I'm working on another order...Thanks!

by:

Excellent product. Service was great. Ordered on a Friday night and had it by Wednesday. Altogether, install takes roughly two hours. Recommend having a good saw and good bits to make it go as smooth as possible. Bottom line, I can now finally shut my garage door all the way. Highly recommend this product to anyone looking to make a swing tongue without having to pay $300 to have a shop do it.
