Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - RP56005-53

  • Above the Bed

Heavy-duty, custom brackets dramatically reduce the amount of drilling and time required to install your fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Outboard design ensures simple access to mounting points. Brackets, 10-bolt base rails and hardware included.

Features:

  • Installation brackets mount beneath your truck bed to provide attachment points for 5th-wheel rails
  • Base rails sit in truck bed and allow installation of 5th-wheel trailer hitch
  • Fast, simple installation with outboard design
    • Extended-length base rails allow for mounting farther out from truck frame
      • Avoids underbed components for easier access
      • Cuts down installation time by more than half compared with universal kits
    • Custom brackets mount to existing holes in truck frame, minimizing drilling and measuring
  • Thoroughly tested kit is compliant with strict Society of Automotive Engineers guidelines
  • Kit includes brackets, 10-bolt rails and Grade-8 hardware
  • Compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley 5th-wheel hitches
  • Sturdy, black powder coated steel resists corrosion

Specs:

  • Base rail dimensions: 48" long x 1-7/8" tall
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Reese's outboard installation kit for your fifth-wheel trailer hitch was designed with safety and convenience in mind. Just like the original custom mounting brackets, these brackets install using existing holes in the truck frame, minimizing installation time. The biggest difference with this outboard kit is the extended-length rails. These above-bed rails are 5 inches longer than standard, universal fifth-wheel rails so that they will match up with the mounting points on the brackets, which sit below the bed and outside of your truck's frame. The result is a much simpler installation process, wherein most underbed components can be easily avoided. Because you are working outside the frame rails, you also have easier access with your tools and more room to work, making the whole process less of a pain.

The base rails included in this installation kit feature a standard 10-bolt design. Each of these rails attaches to the underbed brackets with two carriage bolts at both ends. A single bolt is used in the center of each rail to further secure it in your truck bed. The result is a set of base rails that remains firmly in place thanks to 10 points of contact.

This entire installation kit is built to be SAE J2638 compliant and has been extensively tested per specified accelerated-life-cycle criteria for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. The requirements for testing are based on the European-style test of 900,000 cycles, making this testing process among the most thorough and intensive in the industry.

Installation was good and very happy. Thank you

by:

I did not use this item in my institution and was returned because I had the bed replaced with a flat bed and they used the factory placed holes in their insulation. Designed new attachment plates and had them fabricated in a local machine shop, attached using 3 half inch harder bolts each and all is working well.

I am delighted with my 5th wheel hitch, it works great

Quick delivery which I found helpful to track through the website on its journey to me. This model is heavy, strong, and I feel confident it will last for the life of my truck. The assembling videos give terrific step by step instructions that even someone like me can use.

I was expecting the frame brackets to attach to frame in stronger manner I will probably get some more hardware to make it attach a little better/stronger

Upgraded my truck to a 2019 F250 Superduty. Received my new rail kit and mounting brackets. Fits perfect!

by:

This did not fit my truck right. Front brackets fit fine. The rear brackets lined up with all the holes but the chassis strap brackets are wrong. The spacers are also too short. Contacted e trailer. They checked inventory said their boxes were all wrong also. They contacted the mfg and i waited a month only to get a box of bolts and spacers and no straps. Had to have some fabbed locally. This is for my 2024 silverado 2500 custom.

by:

Instructions not clear enough/descriptive. Took 4 hours for my mechanic to install. would have been much simpler to loosen and lift box instead of taking everything apart as per instructions. Product seems good will know how it works after hitching up trailer.

by:

Five hours to install; which included a half hour searching for the key to the padlock on my spare. E-Trailer linked me to an installation video which really helped. I took my time and measured three times before I drilled the bed. Installation is a lot easier with someone to hold the bolts from the top. I fabricated mounting brackets on my last truck, but these were worth the money and I didn't have to drill the frame! Good design and straight-forward installation. My only issue was the video didn't show one bolt install that secured the driver's side rear bracket to the bottom of the frame. I was going off the video only and wasn't using the written instructions. Make sure you go step by step using both. Also, some parts are clearly for a different application so there will be a few parts left over. My experience with e-trailer was awesome.

by:

Very happy how soon the product I ordered was at my door step. 3 days after I ordered it. Put the base to my 5th wheel on my 2017 250 diesel sd took me around 5 hrs, would have been faster with 2 people. The base fit my husky 16k prefect when I done torquing all the bolts. Going to use this hitch to pull my 29.5 Durango EZ 1500.

by:

The costom bracket kit is of heavy steel, powder coated for protection, from your video it is going to be a lot easier to install and save time, alot less drilling and mounting of components, I am very satisfied with this product and cannot wait to install it on my 2013 Ford f150,will be pulling a 25 foot 5th wheel camper, thanks trailer for a great product

by:

Very easy to install. Measure twice, drill once. I used every piece of galvanic corrosion tape to protect the aluminum bed in the kit, probably could have used a little more. Even though I painted the edge of the holes after drilling, maybe some sort of insulator could be used there also.

by:

We ordered a bracket kit for our new 2017 F350. It was needed to install our Reese fifth wheel. which we use to pull our RV. Product was on back order by manufacturer, however Delisa at Etrailer diligently kept us very informed with updates & shipping status. My husband & son were able to install in a couple of hours. Looks great, outstanding craftsmanship & over exceeded our expectations! We would highly recommend!!!!!

by:

Fast, friendly and knowledgeable service. Will definitely do business with again.

by:

They fit truck just like they were supposed too. Couple hr install with having to remove spare tire and heat shields to get access to bolt locations. Been supporting fifth wheel through thousands of miles. Thanks for helping me find right product for my truck!

by:

The kit arrived within a few days-very happy about that. very easy to install. the directions were clear and pictures good. I went to the trouble of using a sharpie to mark the part numbers on everything before I started just to keep to all straight.

I would note that on the 2017 F350 diesel the only problem bolt was on the driver side inline with the DEF tank. long skinny arms with flexible wrist is ideal (not what I have). I would also suggest taping the shims onto the outboard frame brackets to save yourself some frustrations. otherwise they are difficult to get and keep in place, especially on the driver side.

the two nuts that go inside the frame tube come on/with a nice handle although a bit light on the wield. here again save yourself and tape the shims on before you try to insert two things into that hole, align and fasten the bolt-by yourself. I used an extension with wobble head and socket to turn the bolt while holding the nut "assembly" in place.

I did remove the rear wheels and fender well liner-a must.

Lastly, great customer service on the phone. Pleasant and patient answering questions.

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit and Wiring for a 1999 Ford F-250
The easiest custom installation kit for a 1999 Ford F-250 is going to be # RP56005-53. The frame brackets mount on the outsides of the frame rails and there is minimal drilling. I have included links to the installation instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation for you. The rails have the standard 3 sets of slots to mount a hitch. The outer set is 29 inches apart. The middle set is 20-1/2 inches apart, and the inner set is 10 inches apart (all on center). For in-bed...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2009 Ford F-250 Short Bed
Reese custom installation kit # RP56005-53 for your 2009 Ford F-250 short bed uses different rails and brackets like you said. They are longer so that the frame brackets all install on the outboard sides of the frame making it much easier to install which takes less time. This is the kit I would go with if I was putting one in a truck. The installation of custom kit # RP50082-58 does require some work on the inboard sides of the frame so installation is not quite as easy but there is no...

  • 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a Husky Hitch and 2004 Ford F-350
For your 2004 Ford F-350 you can use Reese installation kit # RP56005-53. You mentioned a Reese 16K roller # RP30051. Since you have a long bed truck you will not need a roller or slider hitch. If you already have it then you can of course still use it. But if you have not yet purchased a hitch you can go with the fixed version, # RP30047.

You have a couple options, but I cannot recommend you modify the mounting bracket of your air spring kit that you have installed. The other option you have would be to use the # RP56005-53 that you referenced and then go with a different air bag kit that is confirmed to work with fifth wheel rails like the part # F2550. Given the weight of your 5th wheel trailer at 19k I recommend going with a hitch rated for 27k, # RP46FR. This hitch has a secure 1 piece jaw design and 4-way pivoting head. A 20k hitch like # RP30928 has the potential of being overloaded so going higher is a safer option. For an installation kit there are 2 custom options available. First we have kit # RP56005-53. This kit has longer rails and brackets that mount to the outsides of the truck frame rails for a faster, easier installation. And...

I'll start off by saying that your Husky 24k hitch likely mounts to industry standard base rails. My favorite sliding hitch is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550034. If you did have the outboard style rails the bracket kit would be the part # RP56005. For above the bed 5th wheel rail kits for your 2008 Ford F-350 long bed it boils down to 3 possible categories: custom, semi-custom, and universal. The main difference between these is the amount of drilling into the truck frame required for installation. Custom kits generally require no frame drilling at all. You can use a sliding fifth wheel hitch, or a Sidewinder, both of which would increase the clearance.
