Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in the jack storage compartment of your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

2009 Acura MDX

Installation in our 2009 MDX was a snap! The unit plugs directly into the terminal panel near the left rear corner of the cargo area, and there's plenty of room in the space below the cargo floor to mount the controller unit (I used 3M double-stick foam mounting tape if my own, as the pieces referenced in the instructions were not included). As other reviewers have noted, the white ground wire is too shot to reach the main grounding lug where grounds for everything else in the area connect to, but I found a 6mm (?) threaded boss under the surface pad just to the left of the opening for the jack, which worked perfectly for securing the ground wire. I ran the flat-4 connector thru a small slit I cut in the wide rubber grommet under the plastic shield in the jack compartment (where the OEM harness runs thru - be careful not to nick any if those wires when cutting!) and then zip tied it along the top of the hitch tube down to the bracket for the connector (be careful not to let the wiring hang down and contact the heat shield though). I re-sealed the penetration thru the slit in the grommet (interior and exterior sides) using some black silicon RTV gasket maker I had on hand, but any other silicon product would prob work as well.

The whole installation was a total cakewalk, and the end result looks very professional if I do say so myself! I did chuck the cheesy mounting screws that came with the connector mounting bracket though, and used some 6mm SS machine screws w/SS lock washers and nuts that I had on hand. Had to drill out the mounting holes in the bracket but it was no issue. Sprayed it black afterwards to match all else.

A year later now and the harness and connector are still rock solid and still looks like factory-imstalled. Excellent product, def would buy again andor recommend to friends. But not enemies.

Product arrived on time and in perfect condition! Very EASY to install and I owe it all to watching the videos provided on the site. I had my cell phone in and under the car and watched step by step on how to install both the hitch and wiring harness. Hardest part was holding up the hitch...had to ask my wife to climb under the car with me for the extra hand! Not that its hard just awkward angles to wrench and hold at the same time. I've seen some reviews that others used a floor jack if an extra hand isn't available which I think is a great idea!

by:

This the second trailer hitch I have bought from the folks at etrailer. I love the price and shipping is super fast. the product is top notch, made with thick walled tubing and the welds are great. This hitch is a bolt on product, and very easy to install. I will buy from this company again, when I need another hitch or other products. I highly recommend buying from etrailer, for you trailer related needs. Thank you all for the great product and help.

by:

This product is as described and performs as it should. Works excellent and looks great! I was able to install the kit in two hours, in my driveway. Customer service was exceptional as well. Thank you etrailer and Justin.

I plugged it in, grounded the white conductor, put in some fuses and it worked right away. Have not finished the rest of the install yet but so far so good.

I managed to fish the harness through the body and attach to the receiver!

by:
2015 Acura MDX

Let's see, $40 on this wiring harness or $200+ to get it wired from factory? Financially, it made sense so I decided to try it out. The wiring was super easy and the instructions were perfect! I wired mine a bit differently so it actually goes down through the bottom of the floor panel and I zip tied it to the actual hitch so it is almost like a permanent mount. The wiring itself only took about 15 minutes. This is a great alternative to factory wiring. I used this on a 2007 acura mdx.

by:
2018 Acura MDX

I installed the hitch on my 2013 Acura MDX the day after I received it. The video instructions on the "etrailer" website were a great help and the installation was made following the tips and suggestions included in the videos and reviews. I installed it by myself and used a bottle jack (with a block of wood) to position the hitch for mounting. I did not raise the vehicle and installed the hitch with the vehicle's tires on the ground. From start to finish, the installation time was about 2 hours (including borrowing 1/2" drive 18 mm and 22 mm sockets from a neighbor to tighten the mounting bolts). The installed hitch is unobtrusive, doesn't impact ground clearance, and looks like a "factory" installation. The product arrived when promised and was in excellent condition as delivered.

by:
2015 Acura MDX

Installed it in less than 15 minutes, hooked it up to the trailer and it works great. The dealer wanted to charge me close to a thousand dollars to wire my MDX.

Still going strong after one year. No issues at all.

2007 Acura MDX

Pros: Plug & Play. 4-way lead is plenty long.

Cons: The grounding wire is too short. Did not come with double sided tape as the instructions say it should have.

For a factory looking install, the white grounding wire is too short for a 2007 Acura MDX. I removed the felt cargo tray in the back of my MDX and removed two circular rubber grommets from the sheet metal below, which allowed me to route the 4-way electrical connector out of the bottom of the car (near the spare tire) and permanently mount the trailer connector to a bracket on the hitch. I like this setup better than the instructions which say to store the 4-way lead in the cargo tray and just run it out the hatchback door when towing. The trouble is, if you want to put the ModuLite power module out of sight (aka behind/within the interior trim), the grounding wire is too short (even per the installation instructions). With the ground connected and the length of grounding wire they give you, the module would end up under the felt cargo tray after the tray is re-installed, and there's no space for it. The tray would bulge very awkwardly. I solved it by splicing in 6 additional inches of 12-14 gauge wire on the grounding line and then tucking the module into a very convenient cavity under the MDX's electric junction box on the drivers side of the car. Also, instruction step 3 says that the harness should include some double sided tape to mount the module (basically to keep it from rattling); mine didn't come with any tape.

So, for needing to splice in 6 inches of grounding wire and for having to provide my own double-sided tape, I deducted one star. Other than that, install was pretty easy.

Received very quickly. Installation took 10 minutes. Installation instructions were excellent.

Works great. Installation was a piece of cake with you excellent online installation videos. I have since purchased a harness for a 2015 Volvo V60 and again you video made the installation very easy and quick, less than an hour.

by:

Installation was very easy and everything just worked! My only wish is that the ground wire were a little longer. I attached the ground wire to the suggested, existing screw but it's not quite long enough for the box to be completely tucked to the side; instead it's under the storage area and you can see and feel where it pushes up. If it had been just two or three inches longer, it would've tucked cleanly to the side of the storage area. I also could've attached it to a different grounding point but I didn't see any other options and I didn't feel like trying to tap into the body metal.

2012 Acura MDX

Hitch looks perfect....close to factory installed. Lines up perfectly and almost level with the exhaust. I purchased the wire harness and the mounting bracket for the 4 pole flat trailer connection. Looks great and pleased with the price/shipping.

by:

Called to get info on installing trailer wiring. Geoffrey was super helpful. I also got the hitch and ball and a the led tester for the lights. It all arrived in a few days and was easy as pie to install. Even included the self-tapping screw. My Acura dealer quoted me $450 for this job, even after I sent them the info on the kit and a video showing how easy it is to install.

For years we have talked of exploring the US in a motor home. Class A homes are too large for us and are difficult to drive in urban settings. We decided to rent a small trailer pulled by our Acura MDX. We didn't have the slightest idea about what gear we would need to prepare our vehicle for towing. Thanks to Paula at etrailer, we were given the time to describe our plans, vehicle and the trailer we planned to rent. Paula walked us through the towing accessories needed, and made her recommendations. We followed her advice, ordered the parts and Paula stayed late before the weekend to ensure our order was shipped before she left for the day. The parts arrived in 2 days and have been installed on our vehicle with no problems. We are very pleased with etrailer.com and Paula

2013 Acura MDX

I was going to have the dealership install a Trailer hitch and wiring harness on my 2013 MDX but decided to do it my self with the help of etrailer. Very quick shipping, very easy install, just as advertised. I watched the video's on the website the night before, they made the install a breeze. I saved over $600 !!! Thanks etrailer!!!

by:

Super quick and easy installation. Looking at the customer installation photos online at etrailer was very beneficial. The only reason I don't give this wiring harness 5 stars is because the ground wire could have been a few inches longer to make for the best installation.

by:

Excellent hitch that was represented accurately in the online descriptions as well as through the agent I spoke with. Fits perfectly, installed in 90 minutes, and the wiring harness was universal for easy plug-and-go on my vehicle's existing wiring. Best part is that it was a great price for great quality!

by:

The ground wire on this product is not long enough to reach from the suggested ground point to the side trim area, where you need to mount the black box. If you mount the black box on the floor of the cargo area, the cargo area liner would not fit back in properly.

I had to use an alternate ground point, which I found way back underneath the side trim. Worked fine, just not as easy to access.

by:

This product has held up well, although I need the clip that holds the wire harness that fastens into the trailer hitch!

by:

Installation was very easy with the instructions provided; the only tool I needed was a 10mm wrench and it took about 30 minutes. The video provided on the site was also very helpful. The ground wire could have been a bit longer to make it easier to put the floor liner back down without a bump, but overall I'm very happy with the connector kit.

by:

I am very pleased with quality of the Curt hitch as well as the excellent fit. It was a bit tight, but this is a good thing. An extra pair of hands helped with installation. E trailer sent it out quickly and it was received within several days. Much sooner than I expected. Wiring was quick and easy to install.

by:

Product arrived on time but not in a perfect condition. UPS delivered it with paint chips in 3 places. Installation was as advertised. It took me approx 45 minutes to install without lifting the vehicle and doing all this alone. Installation of wiring harness took less than 5 minutes. I used the product almost immediately and it worked great. Overall happy with the product and the ease of the installation.
