Installation
This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. You will need to remove the spare tire and quarter panel to access the harness.
Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.
It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.
Tail Light Converter
A tail light converter is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. The tail light converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

No worries of splicing wires it tight areas. Quality product pleased with my purchase.
We'd tried wiring my Cherokee to use the flat-bed trailer of my dad's I just rebuilt (replaced plywood, rustoleum over wire-brushed rust, rewired, new lights, etc). The 1st attempt was through the wiring in each taillight.
The trailer lights just didn't work and I didn't want to redo all of the wiring to find it was the Cherokee wiring that was the problem.
I searched online, watched your eTrailer.com video for the exact year/type of Jeep I have. Found it simple, clear, and reasuring that even I could do it right.
The part arrived, I watched the video again (stopping after each step to do the work) and, hey, it was the trailer wiring but narrowed down so I had less to debug. Fixed the bad connection and all the lights worked right! Looked like Christmas to me.
I've now purchased and I've now brought home 2 beautiful leather chairs I found on Craigslist (one for $80, other for $100). Great buys.

I have bought not one but two different trailer hitches from etrailer. I would buy another ten if I had the need. They are excellent quality. I’ve never had a problem with the hitch’s as well as the wiring.
I’ve pulled my 18’ boat as well as my trailer from Ga to Maine and back twice (each) with no problems as well as from Nj to Ct,Pa and Nj this past winter with no problems
Basic and easy to install. I didn't do super clean / permanent install, but that will come. I have included a couple pictures after the installation.

Thanks etrailer. The fact that I didn't have to splice into the existing wires is priceless. Super fast shipping had it within 3 days , we live in Kenai Alaska there are so many trailers up here for a variety of recreation from hunting and fishing and boating for some reason unable to find a harness for my Jeep?. we rely on subsistence salmon fishing and hunting to fetus through the winter . this trailer wiring was a 2 second install and the easiest part ive done to my lifted xj
etrailer solved my electrical needs very well. My 2001 Jeep Cherokee had no existing connector for trailer lights, and I needed to tow. I hate tapping into wires outside of a vehicle because of corrosion issues, and this kit kept all my wiring connections neatly under my trim on the inside of my vehicle. That said, Here is my review of this kit.
First off, shipping was very fast, and the packaging was good. Very securely packed and no damage what-so-ever. And the pricing beat competitors that I had checked with before placing my order.
Secondly, the product. This was a PERFECT fit and finish. I think it took about 10 minutes to put in, and it is incredibly easy.
It even came with self tapping screws and adhesive backing for the electronic module, and a zip tie for clean organized wires.
The quick connect option clipped into my factory wiring harness, which meant no soldering, and the ground wire went straight to my factory ground! Couldn't be easier!
I would absolutely order this again!

This was my first time using etrailer and I'm pretty gratful they had all the parts in stock and shipped within a timely manner. the harness was plug and play! It completely works for a 97-01 jeep cherokee xj with no modications.
The installation went smoothly. My Jeep has an OEM trailer harness. It has a short in it somewhere when I use it. The harness also has wiring for other components. Since the tail lights on the Jeep were working, I installed the harness at the end that went to the Jeep tail lights. It is working just fine. The wiring is a little tight due to leaving the original harness installed. The adhesive on the back of the box worked just fine. I installed it on the fender cavity reinforcement between the screws that fastened the spare tire support to the inner panel. I tie wrapped the harnesses together in 2 places to keep the wires in place. I trimmed a corner on the interior trim to allow the harness to exit the fender cavity under the spare tire. I installed a piece of loom over the wires where they exited the fender cavity.

It works just fine
I gave a 4-star rating simply because I just installed tonight and have no long-term experience with the product. But if it is anything like other harnesses I've purchased through etrailer, I don't anticipate any issues down the road. Super easy to install! Watch the video on the web site for your application and you'll be good to go. Removing the spare tire,,spare mounting brackets and panel took about 30 minutes. The actual installation of the harness... about 2 minutes - really! Easy as pie!

So far so good...
Got this for my '98 Jeep Cherokee and it was of excellent quality and fit perfectly. Having wired several vehicles before with the cut and splice type of harness, it was great to have the factory compatible connectors to just "plug and play" (to use a tired but accurate phrase).
Good prduct worked as it suppose to.
A great product at a very reasonable price. I installed the custom fit wiring harness on a friends Jeep Cheroke in about 15-20 minutes. Very easy to install due to excellent instructions and well thought out design and application. I will definitely buy my wiring harness and trailer hitch from trailer for my next vehicle. A great company to do business with!

Ordered a hitch and wiring harness on Saturday and received it on Wednesday. Everything I ordered arrived in one package and was well packed. with the videos online and the instructions, both products installed with ease, well, except that one bolt that we cross threaded, but we got a tap and fixed it with not much problem. etrailer.com is a first rate site with first rate products and first rate customer service.

I attached the wiring harness in about 1/2 an hour from start to finish. The directions were very clear. I used the video from youtube to help me step by step. Once I was finished, I hooked up the trailer and tested the lights. Everything worked fine. I will use this company again if and when the need arises. I will also gladly tell others about my positive experience and my satisfaction with the product. Thank you.

I have owned my jeep wiring harness for over a year. I have used it almost daily during the spring, summer, and fall months without any problems. I am anticipating many more years of service with this harness.
This harness seems pretty sturdy. Easy to install and connected fine. It was very easy to find this part when I entered my vehicle information. The video's on how to install were spot on.
Worked like a champ. Installation was a breeze. No problems of any kind. Just requires removal of the spare tire to access the OEM wiring plug located in the left rear fender well. Installs like an OEM part. Major time saver compared to making your own harness.

Has been great and have used many times this past year. Was a wise purchase that I would buy again and recommend without reservation.
Used this to replace a flakey wiring harness in my Jeep Cherokee. The new harness is awesome. Installation instructions were clear and easy to understand. Installation was smooth and easy and best of all, good solid function continues since installation about a year ago with no issues whatsoever.

Plug and play. No issues on my 2001 Che rokee.
The Custom wiring connector was a perfect fit for my 94 F150. I was skeptical that it would work since it was for an older vehicle but, it worked perfectly. Plugged it in to the existing plug under the dash and plugged in my Tekonsha electric brake unit and voilla! It was that easy. Thank you very much!
