Video Transcript for Curt Stretchable Cargo Net Review C18200

Adam: Hi everyone, Adam with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at Curt's Stretchable Cargo Net. So this is going to be ideal for your roof baskets and it's a perfect fit for the Curt Roof Basket. It's going to be also good for any hitch mounted cargo carriers, or just to basically keep everything in the bed of your truck. It is going to be an elastic cording as you can see here, it's going to keep all that nice and secure. It is going to stretch about 38 inches wide to about 44 inches long, and that's before it starts stretching.

As you can see here, I have a lot of wiggle room, so it's going to be able to fit even the larger cargo carriers that you may have. So we are going to have some plastic hooks here with a loop, so you can put your finger in there, stretch it down and these plastic hooks aren't going to damage or scratch any of your cargo carriers, cargo baskets, or the bed of your truck. It's just going to go underneath here like so, and snap into place. And this is just going to be a great way just to get everything sucked together a little bit just until you have maybe less wind noise down the road and just give you more peace of mind. So this Curt Cargo Net was made specifically for the cargo basket by Curt. And honestly, if you have one like this, I would definitely go ahead and buy the Curt Net as well.

And it's really going to fit all the mid rain size cargo baskets. So I would definitely recommend this to you guys.So this is what it looks like fresh out of the box, and it's really easy to install, so let's just go ahead and do that. So for the bed of your pickup, all you really need to do is utilize the hooks on the inside of your cab and always do the one towards the cab of your truck first. And you can stretch them all the way out. This is going to be useful in a variety of different ways, it just depends on what you're hauling, but as you can see, it does stretch quite a bit.

Perfect. Well, everyone, that's going to do it for a look at the Curt Cargo Net.

This worked as advertised! I bought if for a little extra protection to go along with our cargo soft bag (also from etrailer) that I put in our Thule rooftop basket. Worked great on our 16 hour drive.

by:

Good product...easy to install. However, instructions not so great. Did not fix cosmetic front pairing as parts don't seem to match and instructions lack detail. Initial drive around the block seemed hassle free. Will need to do the long one before it gets the full ok. Etrailer folks were great. Were quick to follow-up and recommend this as replacement for the original Rola cargo basket order. Seems to work.

by:

Thule aeroblade w/ Curt rack. Used this Christmas for a family trip to Gatlinburg, TN and through the Smokey Mountains. It worked great to get all our gear there and back! Thanks for getting it to us on time.

Listen to that part of your brain that's saying, "Oh man, that looks like it's going to be a tangled mess."

Now take a good look at the hooks. Go ahead... I'll wait.

Notice how thick the bottom is? That means it doesn't fit in most holes. Yeah, even the side 1/2 inch holes on a Cort trailer. How about the metal mesh bottom? Nope, not there either... at least not without considerable tweaking and wiggling.

Now look at the hook itself. Notice how it's short. Also thick - well, except for that exceptionally thin and thus weak tip. That doesn't fit in anything either.

I'm not a genius. Just because I'm a degreed professional writing in lucid, complete sentences doesn't mean I can't miss the obvious. But, for the life of me, I cannot figure out what well-intentioned product designer/engineer thought this hook improved on the already-established hook design of the past 2000 years or so.

I'm just going to zip-tie the back long edge to the cargo carrier and figure something else out. Maybe cannibalized wire coat hanger hooks would work. Or used bubble gum. Anything. Most likely I'll throw it away and buy some good old-fashioned bungee cords.

Follow - up: If you are an astute eTrailer reader and know the difference between products, then it does state this net is for basket carriers. To the uninitiated, these seems like an aside but it should read For Roof Top Basket Carriers Only.Nonetheless, my responsibility to tease out these differences. Even knowing this now Id probably still have made the mistake, not knowing whats the big difference between a basket vs. a hitch cargo carrier.

by:

This worked fine-ish, but I ended up replacing it with straps. The netting get tangled, a plastic hook broke early on, but overall it is very difficult to get it to not be loose fitting. I've used much better nets in the past. I'd suggest skipping this one.

by:

Very useful and easy to use. To secure the cargo, I used ratchet type straps to hold the net and cargo down to prevent them from flying off. Do not place items on any rack without some type of hold down like a ratchet or a rope.

by:

The cargo net is better than I had thought it would be. It is very well contructed and will hold the the cardboard boxes in place much better than using the bungie cords I have previously used. My wife really liked to product and assisted me with installing it on the trailer. I do not have a picture available at this time. The next time I will snap a photo with my cell phone and forward it to you. I do look forward to doing business with you again.
Thanks, Thomas C

Netting did it’s job holding things in place. Adjustments to hook placements were required to ensure netting tightly holds cargo on the roof rack.

by:

Didn't last after a couple long distance highway trips through rain. Straps became weak and one broke. Ok if you want to prevent light items from blowing around in a truck bed, but I would not use for securing heavy items.

by:

This net works perfectly. It's strong and very well constructed and will hold up for a long time. Well worth the money.

Etrailer is a GREAT company to do business with. I've gotten several things from them over the years and what they promise is what they deliver. Never a problem. Their products are always worth the money.

by:

Awesome cargo net, etrailer was so wonderful to work with. Ordered this and a couple of other products. Everything arrived on time. Would recommend them to anybody and everybody.

by:

Works exactly as I expected to. Stretches to cover everything that I put on my rooftop carrier. The plastic attachment clips can by used to attach to several different size bars. I recommend it

by:

Bought this as suggested for my Curt Basket (18115-INS-RD). On the first trip out, driving on secondary streets not more than 45 MPH for small stretches, I lost a 22 inch diameter shower-hut. Can you imagine? 22 inches in diameter and it slipped through the lousy webbing? We get to the campsite, get all setup, go to setup the shower tent and it's nowhere. I'm returning this item.

by:

Perfect for both covering items in the rooftop cargo basket as well as in the back portion of my SUV!

by:

Seemed of good quality and well made. However, it had too much capacity to work well for the tiny amount of stuff I have in my roof rack. So I did return it.

by:

etrailer.com is a great accessory site. Ordering was easy and the product was delivered exactly when it was promised. The only bad thing I can say, is the instructions were mostly in other languages. Only one page in English so we had to try to follow the pics as best as possible

BIG HELP WITH SECURING CARGO IN BASKET

by:

Comes in a reusable mesh bag with a drawstring for storing.
The quality is there; the plastic hooks are sturdy/strong, and the net itself is a thick bungee cord.
It's a net so it tangles easily, but that's no issue for me.
Overall, this product is great and at a good price.

by:

Honestly i just ordered this to get free shipping but i did use it on my cargo rack. Works as it should. No complaints.

by:

customer service was amazing and the cargo net is a perfect fit.

by:

This is a terrible product. It ripped on the very first trip.

I am sorry to hear that the cargo net did not last for more than one trip. The net does have a one year warranty and I will have our customer service team reach out to you.

by:

fits perfectly as you'd expect, but the bungee could be a little bit tighter. I was pretty loaded up and can't imagine putting more stuff in there that would have taken up the slack.

by:

Well made and love that it comes with a storage bag.

by:

Easy assembly, very good quality, fast delivery.

  • Hitch Cargo Carrier for Class II Hitch on 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
You can use a hitch cargo carrier in the 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch on your 2011 Wrangler Unlimited, a hitch such as the discontinued Draw-Tite #36424, but the particular cargo carrier # e98874 that you referenced only fits a 2-inch hitch. No worries, though, since we have similar carriers to fit your Class II hitch. When we installed this Draw-Tite hitch on a 2012 Unlimited the hitch pin hole was about 10-inches forward of the back of the spare tire. This means you want to choose a carrier...

  • Cargo Net Recommendation for Use with Curt Cargo Carrier C18110
For use with your Curt hitch-mount cargo carrier # C18110 I suggest their Cargo Net # C18200 which is sized to work well with this basket. Depending on the size and shape of your cargo items you might prefer a different net. For example, if you were to load several tall cartons you might prefer a larger net, but this is certainly up to you. Virtually any net will work with the carrier; the nature of your loaded cargo items may suggest using a different net, but that is entirely up to...

I may have a solution for you, however a trunk bike rack cannot be used to safely transport a wheelchair on your 2008 Infiniti EX35. To transport your wheelchair, I recommend looking at a hitch-mounted cargo carrier. The Curt Class I Receiver Hitch # C11510 is confirmed to fit your Infiniti EX35 and will provide a Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitch opening to be used with compatible hitch-mounted accessories. For a compatible bike rack, if you are using the SeaSucker Monkey Bars # 298-SX6000B on your 2020 Land Rover Velar, I recommend the Swagman Race Ready # S64705. The Swagman Race Ready includes a pivoting upright arm with ratcheting hook grabs your bike by the front wheel that involves no-frame contact. As far as weight capacity, the Race Ready can hold bikes up to 45 pounds. The Race Ready will clamp onto the SeaSucker Monkey Bars. As far as a compatible kayak carrier with the Monkey Bars,...

On the back of your Sprinter-based motorhome you can use a fixed (non-folding) 2-inch hitch-mounted carrier such as the Curt # C18145 but we do not recommend a folding type carrier since their folding/hinge mechanisms introduce a point of weakness. A fixed carrier will be more stable in your application and this is what I recommend. All such fixed cargo carriers are displayed on the page I linked for you. • Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2004 Toyota Prius
Since fuel mileage is a concern you are going to want to go with a hitch and a hitch mounted cargo carrier over a roof rack option. For a hitch I would recommend the Draw Tite Hitch part # 24808. This would work well to support a cargo carrier. For a cargo carrier your best value would be the Curt Cargo Carrier part # C18145. For a stretchable cargo net to secure your items to the carrier you would want the part # C18200. Everything I recommended is very economically priced. The hitch...
