Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the Thule Bike Protectors. These are designed for when you have bikes close to each other and you wanna protect them from bumping into each other. We'll take a look at how they work right here at etrailer.com. Whenever you use hanging racks or trunk-mounted bike racks that are hanging style, you're gonna run into some issues when it comes to putting the bikes together. It's really tricky to get them onto the hanging rack and there will always be some sort of contact unless you have the super ideal situation. Now that's gonna be normal for that style of bike rack, but to make things better, we do have the bike protector.
This helps prevent, as you drive around, with that extra movement because it secures the two bikes together and gives them some cushion. So once you have your bikes on your carrier, just take a look at where these will come in handy. Usually, they go on the frame 'cause that's usually where contact is made. But bikes have different shapes, different sizes, and so do bike racks. So once you have your bikes on there, I recommend just giving them a shake, cuz that's what's gonna happen as you drive on the road, and see what points of contact there are.
So in our case, the rear triangle has the most contact. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna get our protector, notice how it's shaped, and this allows you to pick and choose which one works best for you. So I want the most space between our bikes. So we're gonna get it around that thick part. We're gonna fold this protector over, and then we're gonna bring this strap around to the second bike.
Once you've pulled that strap tight, you can then secure it with a hook and loop patch on the end. And then you can see the Thule logo as well. You do get a set of two which I usually think is best for just a single bike. I utilize the slits inside of the cushion just as an extra point to wrap this strap through if I need a tighter fit. And with this, you can see there is a lot less movement between the bikes.
What's gonna happen is as one bike moves, so does the other and you don't have as much of a clash which is where damage tends to happen. So please use the straps included with your bike rack, whether it's the straps on the rack or the extra strap for your front wheel to keep things secured. There's always gonna be more movement with a hanging rack compared to a platform rack, but having these protectors helps minimize the damage.
