Hi everyone. Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Tekonsha Breakaway system with a push-to-test function. If you've got a trailer with a gross weight of 3000 pounds or more, you are required by law to have some sort of breakaway system like this, that basically in the event of a catastrophic disconnect, is going to apply the brakes on your trailer. The kit includes the breakaway switch, one end of which will hook up to your towing vehicle, and if it we inchesre to become disconnected, it would pull this plunger and apply brakes. Now obviously if it did become disconnected, you don't have that power from your vehicle anymore. more

Hi there safety conscious hollers 00:00:00:02, today in your 2017 Grand Design Solitude, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install CURT's Push-to-Test breakaway kit with battery.I know you are asking yourself, I already got a battery on my trailer, why do I need this Well, this is a separate battery that is hooked up just to the charge circuit that's isolated from the rest of our circuit to ensure that we've got that available in those emergency events when we need it.And really the biggest benefit of this system over your just typical battery and breakaway switch is the fact that it does have the tester here on it. The tester makes it quick and easy to just verify that you're going to be safe when going down the road because too many people just hook up and just get on their way without checking any of their stuff and then when the event happens, they find out when it's too late that their system wasn't ready to activate properly.But this one we can just, boom. We know we're ready to roll. We have three LEDs on our battery box indicating its status, the bottom light here is lit up and that's telling us that it's currently charging, above that we have the recharge light and the fully charged light. And those will come on when we hold down the test button letting us know what we need to do.I hear it saying that it's fully charged, so we don't need to charge up that slightly because it's currently charging, that's reading fully charged. If the battery was discharged and we we're to hold down the test button, do you recharge light with light up indicating that you need to recharge the battery.You can get inside the box to access the battery if you need to, there are two screws that you need to remove and then our cover will just slide open here, because this is a side loading battery box, which will allow us to easily slide out the battery and replace it with another one you use down the road when the battery is no longer any good, but we still have use of our box, tester and charger even though we replaced the battery.The battery located inside is going to be a small 12 volt five amp hour battery. more

Today, I want to walk through how to install CURT Soft-Trac 1 Trailer Breakaway Kit.The nice thing about a breakaway kit is, one: any trailer with brakes on it, it's technically required by law to have a breakaway switch on it. The reason for the breakaway switch is if you have the trailer loaded while you're pulling it and the trailer comes disconnected from the vehicle, what it does is it pulls this pin and it applies the brakes on the trailer, bringing it to a stop. If you didn't have the kit, the trailer, it becomes disconnected. It's just going to keep going down the road, causing a lot of damage, maybe hurting somebody else.One thing I will say with this particular one, this does not have a battery charger on it. So make sure you check the battery and maintain the charge on it so that your breakaway system on your trailer is working correctly. more

This is going to replace the breakaway switch on your towed trailer so that it will apply the trailer's electric brakes if the trailer we're to come disconnected.I'm sure you're familiar with the concept, but just in case you aren't, you will attach this end to your towing vehicle and then if there we're to be a disconnection between your towing vehicle and your trailer, this piece would be pulled out and that would apply the brakes in your trailer.This kit is going to come with a four foot long breakaway cable. The blue and black wires are also right about four feet, so you should have plenty of room to get this all mounted up. It's also going to come with your battery box. You do need a separate battery on your trailer for your brakes, just in case it we're to come disconnected and your trailer batteries we're to be dead. more

Titan BrakeRite II SD Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Installation - 2015 Flagstaff Classic- Video
Today we're going to be showing you how to install the Titan Disc Brake Kit and BrakeRite II SD Electric-Over-Hydraulic Actuator. This is going to work for tandem axles with 3,500 lb capacity. Part number is T4843700. This Titan kit's going to allow you to easily change over to disc brakes from your standard drum brakes. This is going to give us a very noticeable increase in our braking performance. You can see both the hub and rotor here have a dichromate plated finish for superior corrosion resistance. The advantage to disc brakes is that we're going to have a faster response time to begin slowing down our trailer, and it's going to be a much more smooth and even braking process. This type of safety system's required in most states on trailers that are rated over three thousand pound gross vehicle weight. This is designed for use on one, two, or three axle trailers equipped with electric brakes. This has a nice weather and corrosion resistant, heavy duty polymer case to protect the battery and the charger. Now, it does include the A, B, C, D, battery charger which means Accelerated Battery Charging Device. You pop open the lid, just sort of want to dump this out, the wires go through the bottom here you can see. Here's your battery and then this little red device right here hooked on to the positive side, that is the battery charging device. Now, it is very quick and easy to install. more

What you're going to get is you're going to get the lockable weather resistant battery box with the sealed 12 volt rechargeable battery inside, and you're going to get the Break-Away switch, the cable, and all the mounting hardware that you need. The mounting hardware that you see is going to provide two different options for mounting. You're going to have a U-bolt option, and you're going to have a self-tapping screw option, and then you have the washers and the lock nuts. Today we'll be reviewing part #20400. This is the Hopkins engager trail breakaway kit with charger and tester with a top mount display. You can see here on top how we have a push to test button. That's going to illuminate one of three LEDs which will indicate whether our battery is charged, whether it needs to be recharged, or whether it's currently charging. Also on top we have a chart here which shows us the wire color codes and where they go. So you're going to have the battery case with the battery inside, the charger with the push to test on top, then you're going to have the breakaway switch and the breakaway cable. Today we'll be reviewing part number HM20001. This is the Hopkins Trailer Break-Away Kit with a charger. So what you're going to get is you're going to get the Break-Away box, which is a switch. You're going to get the cable and it has the plug-in and the plugs into the back side of the switch. You're going to get the battery box that is locked with the screws, so that is sealed shut. You got the expose wires coming from the rechargeable battery and from the switch, they are all going to be color coded. You have to options when it comes to mounting. You can either choose the mount using the U-bolt setup with the washers and the lock nuts. more
