Today, we have a 2020 Grand Design Momentum, and we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Kodiak Disc Brakes for 7,000-pound axles. From the factory, your Momentum is going to come with your traditional-style drum brakes. And when you get into a camper of this size or a trailer of this size, the drum brakes really are not. They're not gonna work very well because when drum brakes get very hot, they don't like to work properly, that's where our disc brakes come in. They're gonna stay cooler, they're gonna provide better braking, and ultimately give you more comfort when you're traveling down the road. more

Hydrastar Brake Kit Installation - 2017 Grand Design Momentum 5W Toy Hauler- Video
Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Hydrastar disc brake kit for triple axles. Now one of the biggest issues, which you may already know if you're watching this video, is that big RV's like this one weighing in at 16,500 pounds dry, that's before any fuel in the fuel tank, any water in the tanks, anything inside of it, this one is a toy hauler, the normal electric brakes, the drum brakes, are not really adequate for stopping this size of a vehicle. This vehicle itself has a GVWR of 21,000 pounds, so that's a lot of weight. The disc brakes are going to perform way better than your standard drum brakes. A drum brakes, the biggest problem with them is that they get really hot, and they do not like to cool down because they're all contained inside the drum. more

Now these are galvanized marine grade hydraulic drum brake assemblies, great for boat trailers, and they are designed for use with surge type trailer brake actuators. They offer sturdy, corrosion resistant steel construction. As we've mentioned, they have the galvanized backing plate, does use the stainless steel spring hardware and in a zinc plated wheel cylinder. So all those features help when it's used in a marine application. more

Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the DeeMaxx Disc Brakes on our 2015 JAYCO Pinnacle Fifth Wheel Trailer. Now, the biggest reason why you would wanna swap over to a set of disc brakes, rather than your standard drum brakes, on a rig like we have here is because you need a little bit more stopping power. Drum brakes do an okay job of bringing your camper and your truck to a full stop. But as you'll see later on in this video it takes much longer, because the drum brakes is such an old style of applying the brakes in a trailer. Disc brakes are going to provide a much more sound stop. more

And I say that because these are gonna be what's called free backing which means they're not gonna engage whenever you're in reverse. So really popular, you see these on boat trailers like we have here today. Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this DeeMaxx 12 inch Hub and Rotor Disc Brake Assembly. This is going to be a 12 inch rotor with the six 1/2 inch diameter wheel bolts and the 6 on 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern, so this will work for your wheels that are 15 inches and larger on your 6,000 pound capacity axle. This is constructed of a machine cast iron, so it is gonna be very durable for you, it also has a Maxx Coating on the hub and rotor as well as our calipers and our caliper mounting brackets. That Maxx Coating is kind of a proprietary version of a dichromate finish, so it is gonna be corrosion resistant in freshwater and saltwater, it's got a salt spray rating of over 1,000 hours, so it will hold up well for you. One of the design features here is that we have this vented rotor that's going to help more efficiently dissipate heat to prevent premature brake pad wear and heating damage. more

Now, these hydraulic drum brake assemblies are designed for use with a surge type trailer brake actuator. These we mentioned are a free backing design, and the free backing design lets you reverse without the trailer brakes being activated. And they do that because the hydraulic pressure is contained by the wheel cylinder and the brake shoe turns and releases pressure when it's reversing. more

This is 10 inches in diameter and you can see we have the five pre-installed half-inch diameter wheel bolts here in the five on four and a half inch bolt pattern. And now, it is recommended that when you replace one brake assembly you replace the other, so both sides of your axle or are going to be even. So, if you are looking to replace both, I would recommend using the part number that you see on the screen there. more

DeeMaxx Disc Brake Kit Installation - 2020 Keystone Montana Fifth Wheel- Video
Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the D-MAX Disc Brakes for 7,000 pound axles with 13 inch rotors on a 2020 Keystone Montana. Now what kind of sets these apart is definitely gonna be the rotor design and you're gonna notice right away we have these holes here on our hat of the rotor. And what makes that a little bit more unique than your typical one is not only is it gonna cool because that heat is gonna be able to kind of dissipate through those holes, but also it's really important for anyone that does any marine usage of their trailer or even driving an inclement weather where water kind of gets caught in the backside of this. And the problem with other rotors is that water just kind of spins around and as you park, it's gonna sit at the bottom and if you park your trailer for a while that's gonna eat away at that rotor and this actually allows it for it to drain out. Another great part about this is when they're able to put the coating on the rotor, it gets nice and uniform, there's no drip marks, so again you get a little bit more uniformity and overall better quality. Now what also sets these apart and really comes down to being heavy duty is gonna be a robust caliper design. more

This is going to allow you to replace one brake for your trailers 7000 pound capacity axle. Our rotor here is 13 inches in diameter, and you can see we have the 8 on 6 and a half inch bolt pattern with the half inch wheel stud diameter on this. So those dimensions are typical for assemblies that work on your 16 inch and larger wheels. These do have the integrated hub and rotor assembly as well as the brake caliper and our caliper mounting brackets here on the back side. more

This kit is going to provide the driver's side and passenger side electric trailer brake assemblies for a 4,400 pound capacity axle. These are 10 inches in diameter by two and a quarter inch wide, so these are going to work for most standard hub and drum assemblies, including the Lippert. These will work for wheels that are 13 inches to 15 inches in size. And they do have the four bolt brake flange configuration so they are going to be very easy to mount onto your axles with that four bolt brake flange. more
