Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Toyota Venza

Speaker 1: Today our 2009 Toyota Venza, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the draw tite clasp to custom fit trailer hitch receiver, part number 36512.So, here's what our hitch is gonna look like, that cross tube is gonna sit right below our bumper, and it is going to be visible. It's gonna offer us an inch and a quarter by an inch and a quarter receiver tube opening, because it is a class 2 hitch, which means it's going to be great for all sorts of accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers. The way we're going to mount any of our accessories is through the hitch pin hole here on the side, and it is gonna accept a standard half inch pin and clip, while they're not included in the kit, you can pick them up here at etrailer.com.Our safety chain connection points are gonna be a plate style, welded to the bottom and as you can see, it's gonna have a rather large opening, not gonna have too much trouble getting most size clips on or off, we're not gonna have to worry about it interfering with our hitch pin or our locking device if we put one on.The hitch is gonna have a 300lb ton weight, which is gonna be the maximum downward force at the receiver tube. It's also gonna have a 3500lb gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull, including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it.Now if you do plan on doing some light duty towing, there is a specific draw bar made for our hitch here, and you can find that here at etrailer.com.With those numbers in mind, you want to double check your Venza's owners manual, and never exceed the manufacturers recommended towing weight.Let's give you a few measurements, that's gonna help you when deciding for accessories for a new hitch, such as the bike rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is gonna be right about four inches. That measurements gonna come in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough clearance so it doesn't come in contact with the rear bumper. From the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver top opening is gonna be right around 13 1/2 inches. At that height, I would definitely recommend a bike or a cargo carrier with a raised shank, that way we could just get that little bit more extra ground clearance. So now that we've seen what our hitch looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we're gonna want to come to the very back of the vehicle and just a little bit forward of where the exhaust is, we're gonna have this bracket, with attached to the bottom as well as on top of the frame here. \So I wanna remove the nut that's holding it in place on the bottom, we'll be needing a 14mm socket. Now we're gonna wanna be holding on to this nut for re-installation later. For the bolt on top of the frame, we'll be using a 17mm socket to pull it out. We'll go ahead and pull the bracket down. Now the bolt won't be getting reused, but we wanna make sure we have the correct orientation on our bracket, so the easiest way to remember is this large hole is gonna be going towards the bottom. So we're gonna go ahead and pull out the other side as well. Now on each side of the frame, we're gonna have three weld nuts that are gonna be on the bottom, now typically these are covered up with stickers or some kind of plug on them, I've reused these, ours aren't there, so they have been exposed to the elements. more
