Best 2005 Toyota Sienna Trailer Hitch Options

Speaker 1: Today on our 2005 Toyota Sienna, we'll be having a look at our best trailer hitch options. We have three hitches here today. All three of these are class three with 2 x 2 inch square receivers. Up top we have the Curt, in the middle we have a DrawTite, and on the bottom we have the etrailer.com hitch. First, we'll give you a brief summary. As far as weight capacity goes, we found the DrawTite hitch to be the winner here, because it does have the highest capacity of our three hitches. As far as towing goes, we found the DrawTite hitch to be the winner here as well, because it does have slightly larger and easier to use safety chain loops, and we do have the attachment point for any of our wiring harnesses that we may have. Now, from my personal opinion, if I was going to be buying a hitch for my Sienna, I'd be going toward the DrawTite hitch just because of the added features of the attachment point for any wiring. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Toyota Sienna - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2005 Toyota Sienna, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 36513. First let's point out our attachment points. We're going to have a total of 6 attachment points, 3 on each side. These attachment points are weld nuts built into the frame by the manufacturer. Keep in mind, these process we do on one side, we will repeat identically on the opposite side. Before we attempt to install the new hitch, we want to clean out the weld nuts, because over time they're going to build up with rust, dust, dirt, and debris. We'll spray each of the attachment points with a spray lubricant and then clean it out with 1/2 inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092. Once we have it thoroughly cleaned out, we can go ahead and take one of the new fasteners, run it into the weld nut to make sure it goes nice and easily. To install our hitch, we'll take the new 12 millimeter bolt, split lock washer, and flat washer, put them up through the pre-drilled holes in the hitch. more

From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is going to measure 11-1/4 inches, and from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to measure approximately 6 inches. Now lets go ahead and move on to installation. Starting off up underneath the vehicle here we want to go ahead and point out the mounting holes that we are going to be using to install the trailer hitch. Looking over here at the drivers side frame rail, at the rear most section of our frame we have two existing weld nuts here, and if you follow forward there's a third existing weld nut, and we will be using those three for our attaching points for our trailer hitch, and it's actually going to be the same on the passengers side of the vehicle as well. more
