Best 2009 Nissan Maxima Hitch Options

Today on our 2009 Nissan Maxima, we'll be looking at the most popular hitch options. On the top, we have a Draw-Tite, part number 24796, and on the bottom, we have a Curt, part number C11352. They are both class I hitches that are rated for 2,000 pounds max trailer weight and 200 pounds max tongue weight rating. Now, while these 2 hitches may look very similar in their design, they do mount entirely different to the vehicle. As far as ease of installation goes, if you've never reversed fish wired a bolt into a small cavity before, the Draw-Tite will be easier since you're just drilling a straight hole, and you'll have easy access to drop the bolts down through. Now, another main difference we have between the 2 hitches here is the way the safety chain cables you can attach to. As you see the Draw-Tite here is a nice round tubular construction, so it'll be really easy to even fit the smallest diameter safety chain hooks onto, whereas the Curt down here on the bottom, it has this angular plate that's welded to the bottom frame of the hitch and the receiver here. The opening is a little bit tighter, especially here towards the sides, so if you have a small diameter safety chain hook, you may find it difficult to fit over that. Another key difference that I want to point out here today is if you look through the receiver of the Curt, it's completely open. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Nissan Maxima- Video

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Nissan Maxima

Alright, today on this 09 Nissan Maxima, we are going to install part number 24796 from Draw-Tite. This will also apply to part number 60873 from Hidden Hitch. The first step is to go ahead and remove the exhaust on both sides of the vehicle of course. That will give us more room to put the hitch up and mark our holes for drilling. So let us go ahead and spray down the bolts with your favorite penetrant. Let it sit for awhile. Then go ahead and break the bolts loose. Below the muffler is a rubber hanger. It would be a good idea to spray it down with your favorite lubricant and go ahead and pull it out backwards. Alright, we have our driver side done. Let us go over to the passenger side and repeat the same process. OK, now the heat shield is going to be in the way of holding the hitch up into place. So, we are just going to push it out, away from the trunk pan here. You just want a general curve on it. That way we can get up, in between the bottom of the trunk pan here and the side of the frame. When we are all said and done, this will actually get pushed back in place. 1:01 more
