Best 2014 Ford Focus Flat Tow Set Up Options

Hi there, Focus owners. Today we're going to be taking a look at the best flat tow options for your 2014 Ford Focus. There's five main components you'll need to flat tow your Focus. You'll need your tow bar, which is the connection point between your motor home and your vehicle, your baseplate, which provides the connection point where you'll attach your tow bar to your vehicle, your safety cables, which is a supplementary connection between the two, your diode wiring, which takes all of the lighting signals from your motor home and transfers them to your vehicles, people behind you will know your intentions, and your braking system on your vehicle, which will assist it braking in addition to your motor home so you can come to a safe stop. Now additionally on your Focus, you will need a battery disconnect switch as to get it into tow mode. You do have to disconnect the battery, but you're going to need a power supply for your braking system, so a battery disconnect will allow you to have that power for your braking system and disconnect the rest of the vehicle so you can flat tow it properly. For our tow bar, we're using Roadmaster's Falcon 2. This is a perfectly fine tow bar for your Focus. more

Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit Installation - 2014 Ford Focus- Video

Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit Installation - 2014 Ford Focus

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ford Focus, we're going to be installing Roadmaster's Tail Light Wiring Kit, part number RM-152-LED. In conjunction with that, we're going to be using Roadmaster's 7 Wire to 6 Wire Straight Cord Kit, part number, RM-98146-7. Speaker 2: This bold and socket kit is going to allow us to transfer those lighting signals from our RV back to our vehicle without tapping into the vehicle's wiring in any way whatsoever. Each bulb that is installed in your tail lamps, are going to have its own dedicated circuits that go up to the 6-volt connector at the front of your vehicle. It's going to give you your signals which includes your left turn, right turn, tail lamps, and brake lamps. And what's nice about this, is that it won't void any warranty issues with electrical because you're not actually tapping into any electrical systems. The kit includes long lasting LED bulbs, which are going to be ultra bright. So you'll guarantee that the people behind you will be able to tell what you're signaling. And we use Roadmaster's Kit to get our signals from our RV back to our added LED bulbs, using a straight six to seven pull wire, and a six pull connector here. Now there are some other options out there. You could get a coiled wire, which is kind of nice, because it can stretch and it can help keep it up off the ground. more

Roadmaster Diode 7 to 6 Wire Coil Kit Installation - 2014 Ford Focus- Video

Roadmaster Diode 7 to 6 Wire Coil Kit Installation - 2014 Ford Focus

Speaker 1: Toady on our 2014 Ford Focus we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster diode seven wire to six wire Flexo-Coil wiring kit, part number RM-15267. This is gonna allow our Focus to accept the signals from our motor home for our brakes, turn signals, and taillights. It's gonna give us a six pin round connector on the front and it's gonna come with a six to a seven cord to connect to the front of our vehicle and the back of our motor home. Now the big benefit of having the diode kit in our vehicle is it's gonna alleviate the need for the big magnetic lights you see going down the road and running the wire along the edge of our car and potentially scratching it up as we drive down the road. Instead we're gonna be tapping into our factor lighting system and there's gonna be some diodes so it is gonna protect our vehicle against anything that may go wrong on the motor home end.Now since it is gonna be using our factory system I do want to mention that since our Focus has a separate turn signal from the brake the way we're gonna be wiring it up is the brake is actually gonna become our turn signal when we're flat towing it with our motor home. When we're driving it normally all of our lights are gonna function properly and we're not gonna have to worry about anything else. Now that we've see what our wiring looks like and kind of gone over some of the features let's show you how to get it installed. Now for our wiring I'm gonna start up top and since we have our fascia and headlight removed it's gonna make it a lot easier to get to the front of the vehicle. more
