Hey, everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com Today, we have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I'm gonna walk you through how to install Roadmaster's Direct-Connect base plate. The base plate is gonna be one of five main components needed to flat tow any vehicle. Your other four are gonna be your tow bar, which is the connection point between your base plate and your motor home; safety cables, which is the secondary safety device; braking system, which is required by law in any vehicle over a certain weight when it's being flat towed behind a motor home; and your wiring. Your wiring allows the motor home to transfer lights to the back cover of your towed vehicle so that you're legal and safe. more

Today, on our 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit with removable arms, part number BX1128. Keep in mind this is only one component of our flat tow setup. You're gonna need a tow bar and a braking system along with the tow bar wiring. So here's what our baseplate looks like once we have it fully installed. This is gonna be the connection point from our motor home where our tow bar's gonna hook up to our Jeep. It's gonna take a lot of strain and stress off the front suspension of our Jeep because it's gonna evenly distribute that towing weight across the front of the frame here. more

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the best base plate options for your 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A base plate is going to be what you're going to connect your tow bar to, so you can safely and securely flat tow our Jeep Grand Cherokee down the road. We're going to look at a few different options. On the end here we're going to have our Roadmaster EZ5 or Direct Connect base plate. And in the middle here, we'll have the Blue Ox, which as you see, have removable arms. And on the end, we'll have our Demco, which is going to be the tabless base plate.Now, if it we're me looking for a base plate, I would go with the Demco version, for a few different reasons. more

Roadmaster EZ Base PLate Kit Installation - 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee- Video

Today on our 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we'll be installing the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms, part number 521440-1B. Our first step is going to be opening up the hood to the engine compartment. In some applications, there'll be push pin fasteners here in the upper fascia. For this application there aren't any, it simply just pops up from fasteners located inside the fascia and releases from the core support. Next, we're going to move underneath where we'll remove the lower rock guard. Here you can see the fasteners along the front edge. We're going to remove the plastic push pin fastener first using a flat bladed screwdriver. more
