Curt Gooseneck - Below the Bed - C619-648 Review- Video

Curt Gooseneck - Below the Bed - C619-648 Review

Today we're going to review part number C619-648. This is the Curt EZr Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with Installation Kit and a 30,000 pound weight capacity. For demonstration purposes I've already installed the hitch with the installation kit so it shows you what it looks like underneath the vehicle. This is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks starting in 1999. What I would recommend on the custom fit part to always go to our website. Use our fit guide put in your year and model of your vehicle, and it'll show if this'll work for your application. This is a heavy duty under bed hitch which lets you tow your gooseneck trailer. Uses a double lock system, you can see right here. This provides added security. It has 2 pins holding the ball in place instead of 1. It's a chrome plated hitch ball which easily removes when you're not towing. It gives you complete access to your truck bed because what will happen is you can just flip it over, drop it back into the hole, and it will store upside down. Gives you easy access to the truck bed. They include this rubber cover which is nice. You can just pop that on over there in the hole and that'll keep any grime from getting in that ball hole when the ball is stowed. You can see they have this nice chrome ring which will surround the hitch ball hole. Provides a nice tight low profile look. On the handle, the handle right here is what will lock into place. You can see. You can just turn it to release it. Turn it towards the tailgate. Releases the dual pins that will go and lock it into place and then when you need to tow, pull it out, and then just twist it towards the cab, just like that it will hold it open. You can pull it out. Turn the ball back over, drop it into place. Again, release it toward the tailgate and it will lock it in place with the double pins. It has a nice comfort grip handle on the . Right there now the other nice thing about the handle, it can be positioned either on the driver's side or you can put it in the passenger side, whichever you prefer to operate it from. Has these nice 5/8 inch thick spring loaded safety chain hookups that are built in. You hook your safety chains to. The locking mechanism itself is a zinc plating which provides superior corrosion resistance. And the hitch and the mounting . or the install kit itself is a carbide black powdered coat steel which is also durable and corrosion resistant. This is a very easy one person installation with the included custom mounting kit. Basically you'll just have to drill a 4 inch hole in your truck bed for the ball to come through and to help you do that . Let's just . I'm going to show you here. We're going to pull it open; take the ball out and to help you drill that hole, that's the most important thing, they give you this center locator, this orange piece, plastic piece right here. This center locator will help eliminate any drilling errors. You just drop it into the hole before you raise it up to the bottom of your truck bed. What happens is there's a little hole in the center, the exact center. From underneath, you put the drill and drill up through that hole and that will drill up into your truck bed and give you the pilot hole to start with. Then when you use your 4 inch hole saw to drill the large hole, this will still be in here, this locator will be between the hole and the truck bed. As you drill down with that hole saw, it also let's you know when you've drill far enough because you'll start seeing orange shavings. That means you stop right there. You've drilled through the bed far enough. There's no welding required when installing this. Your truck bed does not need to be removed. A few other parts that you also can get for this .. Curt makes an X5 adapter plate. We sell that separately on our website. It is listed as a related product. It's part C16220. This allows for fifth wheel towing. It would just drop into the goose neck hole and allow you to tow a fifth wheel, if needed. Also an offset hitch ball, we do sell that separately also. It's a related product, C602. This will create additional space between the truck cab and the trailer. It's a ball that when you drop it in, it will be offset from the hole. A few specs on this, the ball size of the gooseneck ball is 2-5/16 diameter. The gross towing weight capacity on this hitch is 30,000 pounds. The tongue weight or pin weight capacity is 7,500 pounds and it does come with a limited lifetime warranty. Also shown here on the table is the hardware that's needed to install your installation kit to your vehicle. Basically if you're going to tow a goose neck, you just drop it into place, twist your handle, that will release the 2 pins. It will lock it and you're ready to tow. When you're done, if you want to store the ball, just pull this out, twist it back toward the cab. It will lock it open. Pick up the ball, just drop it back into the stowed position. Again, release your handle. It locks into place . Take your rubber cover and pop it right into place. You're ready to go. That should do it for the review on part number C619-648. This is a Curt EZr Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch with Installation Kit 30,000 pound weight capacity. more
