Saris Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek we're going to be test fitting the Saris Glide EX 4 Bike Rack, for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number SA774. We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go take a closer look here. This is a pretty unique bike rack, when it comes to the hanging style. Now, if you want to gain rear hatch access with all four bikes attached, normally you would have to buy a model that you can swing out away from the vehicle to do that, because most of the hanging style, you'd have to take the bikes off, fold it down and then you can tilt it out of the way. With this, this actually glides out of way with all four bikes attached. To get that rear hatch access, to do that we'll come to this trigger here, at the backside, push out, and then we have that access that we need. more

Rhino Rack Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2011 Subaru Forester

Speaker 1: Today on our 2011 Subaru Forester, we're going to be test fitting the Rhino Rack 2 Bike Rack for two inch hitches, part number RRRBC045. We already have our bike installed on the rack. Let's take a closer look here. This does come with this strap included, and this is the stabilization strap for where you have even two bikes, you wrap it around the frames of the bikes into a tow point on the vehicle itself, and tighten it up, and that's going to help keep everything together while you're driving, and keep it from moving too far back and forth.Like most hanging style bike racks, the cradles here are adjustable back and forth, or side to side, and we have them pointed inward like you see here, and that's going to help out with loading and unloading our bike to the inside. At the ends of our arms, we do have reflective material, and that's going to help for better visibility at night, and how it actually grips the bike, it'll have three points of contact. It will have two straps on our top tube, and one off to the side, which is going to serve as an anti-sway cradle to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth. Now, as you see with the stabilization strap here, it's not going anywhere.Let's go ahead and remove the strap, and then we'll remove our bike. more

Now there are several options available in colors and sizes for the NV, this is the gunmetal gray and orange, we also have it in the metallic black, two bike like what we have here or four bike. For those of you with the inch and a quarter hitches we have it available in the gunmetal gray and orange and metallic black limited to the two bike version only. Now the biggest benefit we get out of the envy here is gonna be the access that we can gain into the rear of the vehicle. Some platform style racks don't have quite this much tilt feature which a lot of times run into interference as we're opening our door but you can see we've got plenty of clearance here with the Subaru, allows us to get anything in or out of the back that we might want. more

In some cases you may need to ask for assistance as the handle is pretty far up here, and that can be kind of a hindrance at times. Plus, with all four bikes, it's going to be pretty heavy, so once you pull this, you want to make sure that someone is there to catch it so it doesn't come crashing down on you. We'll pull out like so, let it come down, and now we have full access to our rear hatch, and we do have space on both sides to get what we need. How the bike is held in place, we're going to have this one frame hook, up at the top, which is lockable. It's padded to make sure the frame of your bike doesn't get any scratches or abrasions on it once it's being installed. One of the biggest features about this bike rack is the fact that it can tilt away from the vehicle with both bikes still attached to gain rear hatch access. To do that, we'll come to the base here and you'll see two pins, a larger and a smaller. We'll first remove the larger pin, like so. Now it's resting on the smaller one, so we'll just push off slightly, remove the smaller pin, and holding it by the bike rack, we'll let it tilt away from the vehicle, like so. more
