SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2010 Jeep Commander

Today on our 2010 Jeep Commander, we're gonna be taking a look at SMI Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes as part of our flat tow setup. The Air Force One is gonna be a semipermanent installation. What's nice about it is once you install it, it's maintenance free and you don't have to make any adjustments. Another thing that's nice about it is if you buy a new vehicle, you can transfer this over to that new vehicle with the second vehicle kit. Here at the front of our vehicle we have our breakaway switch, and we have our air fitting. Our breakaway switch is attached to the back of our RV. In the unlikely event that our Jeep is disconnected from our motor home, this pin is pulled, applying the brakes in the Jeep bringing it to a stop. With our air fitting, this is also connected to the back of the RV; this is where our braking system gets the air pressure to apply the brakes while we're flat towing the Jeep. Here we have our actuator mounted on our brake pedal arm. more

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today on our 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we're going to be installing SMI's Air Force One Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99243. This is going to be a truly proportional braking system, because the air that's coming from your motorhome is going to apply the pedal, and the harder you press the brake in your motorhome, the more air is going to be delivered back to your vehicle to apply the brakes just as equally as hard.As you can see here, when air is delivered to the cylinder it applies the brake. On the back of your mirror you'll have an LED indicator that you can watch in your motorhome's rear camera to verify that when you hit the brakes, the brakes are actually being applied. This way you can ensure and have peace of mind when going down the road that you're system's working properly. In the event of a catastrophic disconnect between your motorhome and your vehicle, the breakaway switch will be pulled and apply the brakes inside the vehicle to help bring it to a safe stop.Your kit will come with everything you need to tap and install your system, and you'll receive air fittings and air line to connect your motorhome over to your vehicle. We've got everything else that we'll need to get our flat tow for our vehicle behind our motorhome set up. more

Today on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited, we're going to be installing SMI's Air Force One Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99243. This braking system is going to give you true proportional braking using the air supply from your motor home's braking system. What this means is the harder you press the brakes inside your motor home, the more it's going to apply the brakes inside of your vehicle.Included with your kit you get a breakaway switch, so in an emergency event where there is a disconnect between your motor home and your vehicle while going down the road, the pin will be pulled and the brakes will fly, bringing your vehicle to a safer stop. And the indicator light on the back of our mirror lets us know when the brake pedal in our vehicle is being applied. As you can see here, our brake pedal just applied and our indicator's on.Now, in order to get your vehicle connected to your motor home, you are going to need a baseplate, tow bars, and the appropriate wiring to get all of your lighting signals on your vehicle. We'll begin our install by mounting all of our units. more

Today on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited we're gonna be taking a look at the Blue Ox Patriot II Radio Frequency Portable Braking System, part number BRK2016.Here's what our Blue Ox Patriot II looks like once we have it hooked up. It is gonna sit directly on the driver side floor board, in between the seat and the brake pedal. Our Blue Ox Patriot II is gonna be a proportional, portable braking system. Which the proportional side means that it's gonna provide us real-time braking, that's gonna match up to our motor home. So, if we come to a panic stop and slam on the brakes, our Blue Ox is gonna apply the brakes at the same time and intensity as we do in our motor home. But, if we ease into a stop, and just press them enough just to stop our vehicle, it's gonna apply the brakes to the Jeep the same way.The fact that it's portable means that we're gonna be able to remove it and not have to do any kind of permanent installation in our Jeep. more

The five main component for a flat tow set up are your braking system, your wiring, your tow bar, your safety cables, and your baseplate. This is what our braking system looks like when it's installed. You can see it's mostly hidden underneath the seat. The way we did we left enough room that the customer can still store their umbrella underneath their seat the way they had it when they brought the vehicle to us. What this is gonna do for you it's gonna allow your vehicle, your towed vehicle, your Jeep, to brake itself while it's being flat towed. That's gonna save the brakes on the RV and it's gonna be a lot easier to tow the vehicle, you're not gonna feel any push when you're applying the brakes on the RV, you're not gonna feel that push from your vehicle that's being towed. My operating unit is mounted to the floor with self tapping screws, my wiring, my airline tube, and my vacuum line is all ran, I had it routed underneath this panel up to the firewall. more

Blue Ox Patriot Proportional Braking System Installation - 2019 Jeep Cherokee

Speaker 1: Today on this 2019 Jeep Cherokee, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Blue Ox Patriot II Portable Braking System, Part Number: BRK2016. Here's what the Patriot II looks like installed inside of our Cherokee. Now the reason you're gonna need a braking system like the Patriot II is that if you're flat towing your Cherokee behind your motor home, you're gonna need a way to help slow the Cherokee down to alleviate some of the wear and tear on your motor home's brakes and also make it a lot safer and quicker for you to stop.In many places, supplemental braking systems are required by law when you're flat towing, and this will take care of both of those requirements. Now, what sets the Patriot II apart from other braking systems out there One, it's not a permanent installation inside your vehicle. So, if you have multiple vehicles that you wanna flat tow, you only need one braking system that you can transfer in between them. You just have to have a separate breakaway switch for each vehicle. Not a problem. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2013 Jeep Wrangler, you're gonna be taking a look at, I'm gonna show you how to install the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles, part number RM-88400.What the brake light relay is gonna do is, when you're flat towing your vehicle and you press on the brake in the RV, or you throw on the blinker in the RV, that signal's gonna transfer through to the towed vehicle. However, with your braking system in this vehicle, when the braking system applies the break in the towed vehicle, that brake light is gonna override the turn signal, which is illegal. What the brake light relay is gonna do, it's gonna allow you to only get your brake signals and turn signals from your RV while your Jeep's being flat towed. When your key is turned into the on position in your normal driving conditions, your brake lights are gonna function normally. So, you can see we have five wires here. Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Jeep Cherokee, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, and that's gonna be part number SM99251. So if you're looking for a braking system to flat tow your Cherokee, our Stay-IN-Play DUO is gonna be a great option. It's gonna be a one time installation with nothing to do after the fact that it's in, and it's gonna give us that truly proportional braking. What that means is it's gonna apply the brakes at the same intensity as that we're applying them to our motor home that it's not gonna either drag our motor home back, and it's not gonna have our Cherokee pushing our motor home down the road. So a slight push on the pedal is gonna mean a slight push on the pedal on our Cherokee. But in a panic stop situation, our brakes are gonna be applied with a lot more force. Not gonna take up a whole lot of space, and it's gonna be tucked up out of the way of our feet during normal driving. more

Part number RM-88400.This is what your Brake-Lite Relay Kit's going to look like when you get it. What this is going to do, is when your vehicle's being towed and your key is in the "off" position, this is going to allow the signal coming from your RV to work in your towed vehicle. What I mean by that is, if you didn't have the relay and you just ran the wire from, or the signal from your RV to your towed vehicle or Jeep, and you had a brake system. When it applies the brakes, the brake lights are going to come on in the towed vehicle. If you had the left blinker on in your RV while the brakes are being pressed in the towed vehicle, the brake signal is going to override that blinker, and it's not going to blink. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2009 Jeep Liberty, we're going to be taking a look at the SMI Air Force One braking system for motor homes with air brakes. That's going to be part number SM99243.Now keep in mind you will need a base plate, tow bar, wiring kit, as well as a braking system for your flat tow setup. So our Air Force One is going to be a braking system for motor homes that have air brakes on it. It's going to be a completely proportional braking system, which means that whenever we apply the brakes on our motor home, they're going to be applied to our car in the same amount of intensity. Now it's going to be a really out of the way system, and it's going to be a permanent install that we're not going to have to do any kind of adjusting or take anything in or out whenever we're not using it. The way it's going to apply our brakes is there's going to be an air actuator that's going to clamp to our brake pedal. And whenever we apply the brakes in our motor home, it's going to have a cable that's anchored to the firewall and it's going to pull the brake pedal applying the brakes. Now the operating unit is going to be rather small, and we're going to be able to mount it right underneath the hood. more

If we're applying a lot of brake pressure, we'll get the matching amount of pressure inside the towed vehicle as well. Bringing our towed vehicle to a smooth and safe stop, in an equal manner with our RV, so we don't have to deal with feeling any jerking or pushing of the towed vehicle against the RV. Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System, part number RM-8700.Whenever we're flat-towing our jeep, a braking system is gonna be a very important thing. We don't wanna purely rely on our motor home to stop itself and our jeep, so that's where the braking system is gonna take some of the strain and stress off, and it's gonna help reduce the time that it takes to slow down and the distance. Our InvisiBrake is gonna activate the brakes inside of our jeep by having a pulley and cable pull on our brake pedal, helping it slow down. So whenever we push on the brakes in our motor home, it'll activate the cable and it'll pull on the brakes in our jeep. Now the nicest thing about our InvisiBrake is that once we have it installed, we're not gonna have to mess with anything. It's gonna be a permanent installation and this is the most that we're gonna see, is this small bracket that's gonna be at the bottom of our brake pedal. So here's what our stop light switch looks like once we have it installed on our Jeep. I had this panel removed underneath the steering wheel so we can see a little bit better. Now the purpose of this kit is because we are going to be flat towing our Jeep and our supplemental braking system has an indicator light. Now the way our Jeep is wired up it has a retained power for the accessories which means that our brake signal and the factory brake switch will work for a few minutes when the key if off but after a few minutes it goes dead and then we won't have a signal to send out to our monitor light. With our stop light switch we're going to get a true reading of our brake pedal arm movement rather than just that power wire. So whether our supplemental braking system is pushing on the brake applying it, or if something we're to fall onto our brake and apply them, that is going to send a signal to our monitor so we know exactly what is going on.It is going to be a pretty straightforward installation. more

Roadmaster InvisiBrake Braking System Installation - 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited, we're going to be taking a look at the Roadmaster InvisiBrake supplemental braking system, part number RN-8700. And to help us with our installation, we're going to be using the Roadmaster stoplight switch kit, part number RM-751490, and a Tekonsha custom wiring adapter for trailer brake and trailers, for Ford chassis, part number 3034-S. Whenever we're flat towing our Jeep, we don't want to only rely on our motorhome's brakes, because not only does it have to slow itself down, but it also is going to have to slow our Jeep down.Well that's where our InvisiBrake is going to help out. It's going to take some of that stress off of our motorhome and allow our Jeep to slow itself down, without having to worry about pushing our motorhome down the road. The nice thing about our InvisiBrake is that it's going to be a one-time permanent installation. We're not going to have to worry about taking something in and out and trying to set it up every time we want to tow our jeep. more

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Speaker 1: Today in our 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we're gonna be takin' a look at the SMI Stay-In-Play Duo, supplemental braking system. And that's gonna be part number SM99251. Keep in mind, this is only gonna be one component of your flat tow setup. For a complete and safe setup, you're gonna need a base plate and we use the Roadmaster EZ5 direct connect base plate kit, tow bar wiring and we use the Hopkins Universal Taillight wiring kit for towed vehicles. And also a tow bar, and we use the Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain non binding tow bar.Our Stay-In-Play Duo's gonna provide that proportional braking whenever we're flat towing our Grand Cherokee. When we're towing in and we ask our motor home to do all the braking for us, that's a lot of work. more

Speaker 1: Today in our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, we're going to be installing SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251. The Stay-IN-Play DUO is going to be a braking system that permanently installs on your vehicle, so when you're pulling up behind your RV, it'll apply the brakes, making it feel like you're not hauling nearly as much of a load.It features a proportional braking system, so when you're sitting at a stoplight and you've got your foot on the brake, only the brakes on your RV are going to apply. There's an inertia switch located inside the control box that detects movement, so if you're traveling at any speed, it'll apply the brakes harder depending on that inertia. You're driving down the highway and you're about to get to your destination. You merge off, hit the brakes, and the brakes inside your vehicle apply using the cylinder attached to the pedal. You come to a stop and they stop. This is going to be a permanent installation, so your vehicle's always going to be ready to hook up to your RV and go to your next destination. Your control box will be mounted on the inside to easily switch the system off and on. more

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2018 Jeep Cherokee

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Jeep Cherokee, which we're going to be connecting to a 2017 Thor Tuscany, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the SMI Air Force One. This is a proportional supplemental braking system for motor homes with air brakes. Part number is SM99243. Now one of the biggest benefits I see to the Air Force One system, other than it being directly proportional, one of the most proportional systems on the market, is the easy in connection that we're going to have from our towed vehicle to the towing vehicle. You're simply going to have a breakaway switch cable. We can use the quick connect carabiner connect that directly to the cable on the switch. Then we'll bring it up and connect that to the RV. more

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO supplemental braking system, part number SM99251 in conjunction with the Roadmaster stoplight switch kit, part number RM-751449. The Stay-IN-Play DUO is a perfect solution when it comes time to needing a supplemental braking system for your flat towing set up, here's what the Stay-IN-Play DUO looks like installed. Now the reason you're gonna want a supplemental braking system, in many places it is required by law to have a supplemental braking system when you're flat towing your vehicle. Now the reason you'd want the Stay-IN-Play DUO over other options out there is because that this is a permanently installed fixture in your vehicle. There is no setup every time you want to flat tow, you simply flip one switch every time you want to tow and you're good to go.Inside of our vehicle you'll find our cylinder which is permanently attached to our brake pedal. We still have plenty of foot room around it to operate our brakes normally when we're driving but when we're flat towing the cylinder will pull down on our pedal and apply the brakes in our vehicle. With this being permanently attached many of our customers have found this much easier to use and operate than a cumbersome portable braking system which they have to set up and remove every time they want to flat tow or drive their vehicle once they arrive at their destination. Now what's great about this braking system compared to other units like it such as the Roadmaster Invisibrake system this is a proportional unit. more

Speaker 1: Today on this 2012 Jeep Liberty we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the SMI Air Force One supplemental braking system for motor homes with air brakes, part number SM99243. In this particular case we're working with a 2007 Fleetwood Revolution motor home on a Spartan chassis. The Air Force One is a great solution for those of you that need a supplemental braking system to help you keep safe and legal when flat towing your Jeep Liberty behind your motor home that has air brakes. The greatest thing about the Air Force One is that there's only one difference that you have after you've already hooked your Liberty up than how you did it before and that is your air line umbilical between your motor home and your Liberty. You'll just simple remove the dust cap that protects the fitting on the back of the motor home, you'll push in the hose, pull back and make sure it's secure, and we'll do the same on the Liberty. Just like that you're now ready to tow. The Air Force One even comes with a breakaway switch and a cable to attach to your motor home so in the unlikely event that your Liberty ever became disconnected from the motor home the breakaway switch would become pulled and it would apply the brakes in the Liberty, bringing it to a stop. Here's what the SMI Air Force One looks like installed on our Liberty. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with our 2016 Jayco Seneca motorhome on a Freightliner chassis, we will be having a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster BrakeMaster System with BrakeAway. Part number RM-9160.Here's what our Roadmaster BrakeMaster looks like installed. As you can see, we have this very substantial cylinder here, which will apply pressure to our brake pedal to apply the brakes in our Wrangler. This will give us the necessary and required supplemental braking system that we're looking for, which is in many cases required by law in most states and Canadian provinces. This is a truly proportional braking system. This will only apply our brakes when the brakes are being applied on our motorhome, so you don't have to worry about any false braking. By proportional, we are getting equal braking pressure to what the air brakes are being applied on in our motorhome. Now when compared to other braking systems, which are permanently attached inside your vehicle, when this is not in use, we don't have to worry about having a cylinder that's clamped to our brake pedal with an anchor point to our firewall. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2012 Jeep Liberty, we'll be reviewing and installing the Roadmaster Even Brake braking system, part number: RM-9400. And we'll be using the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for towed vehicles, part number: RM-88400.This is a portable, easy to adjust braking system that uses an inertia sensor in the towed vehicle to detect deceleration. Like many other modern brake systems, this one is a proportional braking system that ensures that your towed vehicle's brakes are applied with an intensity that matches the slowing or stopping action of your towing setup. The result is improved control, better stopping and less wear on the brakes of both your vehicle and your RV.This system has an easier install than some of your others that require many electrical connections and tapping into your vehicle's systems. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, then this kit will be a good one for you.The included monitor mounts in your RV and keeps you updated on the status of the Even Brake. This wireless system relies on the ICX transmitter, which is mounted in the towed car to send signals to the monitor. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2007 Jeep Liberty, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Supplemental Braking system, part number RM-9400. Now our Even Brake is a portable, proportionate breaking system, that's going to allow us to flat tow our vehicle behind our RV. It's going to use an inertial sensor to detect the vehicle's braking or deceleration, and then it's going to match and activate the brakes with the same intensity and at the same time as you push the brakes on your motor home.It has a built in high performance air compressor, connection to actuator right here, and that's going to assure the system is ready for each stop. Now the Even Brake has a universal design, and it's going to work very well with many different applications. Speaker 1: Today on our 2004 Jeep Liberty we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake Light Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles, part number RM-88400.The main reason why you're going to want a brake light relay is that when we're going down the road towing our Jeep and we have our turn signals on, we're getting the correct signal. But, when we hit the brakes in our motor home and it applies the brakes on our supplemental braking system, the light's going to go solid and it's not going to blink anymore. Now, the reason why it goes solid is because it's overriding the signal from our RV, which is going to cause a lot of safety issues when we're driving down the road. Now, the brake light relay is going to install inside the car. Let's go ahead and make sure that it's working properly. As you can see, we have our turn signal on from our towing vehicle. Speaker 1: Today on this 2012 Jeep Liberty, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake Light Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles, part number RM-88400.When we don't have a brake light relay installed on our towed vehicle when we are towing it behind our motor home and our turn signal is on and then our brakes are depressed, we have the issue of our brake lights coming on on our towed vehicle overriding the turn signal from our motor home. Now with the brake light relay installed and operating when we step on the brakes on our RV with our turn signal on, our brake signal does not override the turn signal function when the brakes are applied inside of our tow vehicle with the supplemental braking system. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we'll find ourselves underneath the dash on the driver's side of our vehicle. We find this fabric panel that sits above where our feet rest while we're driving. We'll need to remove this. We have two plastic rivets. The way these work, use a flathead screwdriver, twist out the center section, and come behind it, and pull out the entire piece. more

Now, there's several different reasons why you might need a brake light relay. For instance, one of the main reasons why is because our vehicle is going to override the signal coming from our RV. When we push on the brake pedal on our RV, it's not going to send the correct signal to our brake lights because our vehicle's overriding that. When we're not flat towing our Jeep and we're just driving like normal conditions, our electrical system along with our brake lights are not going to be affected at all. Today in our 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with our 2016 Forest River on a Mercedes Benz chassis RV, we'll be having a look at, and installing, the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System, part number RM-8700. If a problem was to occur, and the brakes are being held on for too long inside of our Jeep, we would have an audible buzzer. When you're at a stop sign for an extended period of time, you'll notice my foot hasn't left the brakes, but our indicator light shut off. It does that so it doesn't damage the compressor inside the Jeep, because you're already stopped, but when you go back to your pedal, it turns back on. We have pulled the break away pin on the Jeep. Now you can hear the beeping sound, which indicates that there's a problem. The brakes are hanging up, or in our case, the break away pin has been pulled. more

Now when you uncouple from your motor home, you don't have to worry about flipping any switches or doing anything. As soon as you turn on your ignition source inside your Jeep, your brake light switch will become active again and your brake lights will function just as they normally did.
