Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon- Video

Zach: Hey everybody, Zach here at etrailer.com. Today, we're taking a look at the Thule Helium hanging style bike rack on our 2015 Subaru Outback wagon. This is going to be a really nice upgraded hanging style bike rack. What I like about hanging styles is they're a little bit more affordable, even for a higher end version like this one, but it gives us a little bit better ground clearance with our bikes, so we don't have a big platform hanging out. Now the downside to hanging style is it gets a little bit more crowded. The nicer frames, carbon frames, those aren't ideal for hanging style because one, you're putting a lot of pressure on the frame, but two, they're close and you might scratch them. more

Zach here at etrailer.com, and today we have the Thule Camber on our 2019 Subaru Forester.This is going to be a really good bike rack if you're looking to haul a lot of bikes, but you're not looking to spend a ton of money with some of the more expensive platform styles, and you're getting a really good bike rack in Thule. Thule makes really good stuff. They do a lot of testing, a lot of engineering behind giving you a solid bike rack. My favorite part about this bike rack is the spacing, though, and how easy it is to use. A lot of hanging style racks, you're going to have an issue with how close your bikes sit together, and this one is going to allow you to space them out about 7" apart on those cradles. more

So, this is going to be a hanging style rack that holds up to four bikes, with three tie-down points per bike. We're going to have two here up top and an anti-sway cradle down at the bottom, and what that's going to do, it's going to help limit that bike-to-bike contact that you get when you're going down the road. One of the really cool features about this is that if you do have the option to remove this rear cradle, inaudible 00:00:27 rear tray right here, basically how your bike rack is going to come is that it's going to be a split rail LS, two bike rack with this foot rail, add on to make it into three bikes. So if you wanted to take this on off, a common example will be, if you want to carry an e-bike on here, well you will only be able to do thatIf you have this piece removed. more

And we're going to do a test fit of the Thule Hitching Post Pro four bike rack.Now this is a hanging style bike rack. It's going to mount to the hitch receiver of your Subaru and it's going to allow you to transport up to four bikes to and from your destination.It's going to hold each bike by your top tube and it's going to have three points where it secures. Two of those points are going to be on the top tube with these thick rubber straps securing it into the cradles. The third point is going to be this thick rubber strap securing the seat post tube into the anti-sway cradle, which just helps take out a lot of the unnecessary movement.Now let's go ahead and remove the bike. more

Colin: Hey, everyone. I'm Colin here at eTrailer.So we have a 2014 Subaru Outback, and we're going to do a test fit of the Saris SuperClamp EX two-bike platform-style rack. This is a platform rack that allows you to transport two bikes, to and from your destination.Now you don't see too many bikes out there that have four points of contact for the bike, so it's got a very good hold on the bike. You can literally hardly move it at all.The bonus of this is that there's no frame contact, so you don't have to worry about any type of scratches or abrasions occurring on the nice frame of your bike.Now, the four points of contact, we're going to have two of them. We're going to have one on top of the back wheel, another one on top of the front wheel, because the hooks are putting downward force on top of the wheels, forcing them down into the cradles.The other two points of contact are going to be the straps that are securing the bottom of our wheels into the cradles. Again, those four points of contact are just going to do a great job of making sure the bike does not go anywhere.Now, if the bike rack is fully loaded, and you need to gain access to the trunk, you can do so by tilting it away from the vehicle. more

So here we have a 2019 Subaru Ascent, and we're going to do a test fit of the Thule Apex XT 4-bike rack.Now, this is a hanging-style rack that allows you to carry four bikes to and from your destination. The hanging-style rack is going to give you a bit more ground clearance when it comes to transporting your bikes on platforms, where they sit lower right here. Your ground clearance is going to be up here when the bike rack is empty. Even when you have bikes loaded, your bikes are going to be saying a lot higher than that.It's going to have an onboard-cable lock, which comes from the base of the rack, comes up from the mask right there. You can bring it across all of your bikes, and then it goes into that slot right there. more

Hey everyone. Today, we have a 2019 Subaru ascent, and we're going to do a test fit of the Hollywood Racks Destination four bike platform rack. This platform rack is a great way to transport four bikes to and from the trails or wherever else you need to take them. What's really nice about this is that we have a really high ground clearance because it has a slightly angled up platform when it gets to the back. So our ground clearance is going to be much improved when compared to a lot of other bike racks out there. And given that on the ascent, the hitch does sit higher than most. more

The cable lock in integrated into the top mast, so you just pull that out, bring up and over your bikes and then lock it into position there. more

Notice the hitch mounted bike rack, so it mounts to the hitch receiver on your Outback. It allows you to carry up to four bikes to and from the trails. This bike rack is going to have an onboard cable lock. It comes from the base right here, comes all the way over and locks into that slot. more

Now this is a hitch-mounted bike rack, so it's going to mount to the hitch receiver on your Outback. It comes in at just under 20 pounds so it's going to be very lightweight and easy to handle so you're not going to have to strain your back at all when putting it in your hitch receiver or taking it out. Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon HR1400Z- Video

Today on our 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE4 platform style four-bike rack. That's part number HR1400Z. I've already got it loaded up just to give you a good idea of what it looks like on your Subaru and how it's going to hold our bikes.I did say it's a four-bike rack, but this can also be converted down to a two-bike rack, and you can also take off the two-bike extension and put on a cargo carrier. This bike rack has a ton of options. As I said, it can be converted down to that two-bike rack. If we're not carrying all of these bikes, we can take off that extra weight, we're going to have more clearance off the back, and just carry our two bikes, or our two bikes and some cargo. more

Thule Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon th9034xt- Video

Today on our 2019 Subaru Outback wagon, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Tooly T2 pro XTB platform style two bike rack. That's part number TH9034XT. I've already got it loaded up just to give you a good idea of what it looks like and how it looks on our Subaru Outback. It holds our bikes by their front tire, so we have zero frame contact. This is a nice feature when we're carrying those carbon fiber bikes or bikes we don't want any abrasions or scratches done to that top tube. You can see here how it's going to push down on that tire right in front of our brakes or our fork, whatever comes first, into that large front cradle. more

Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon NV22B- Video

Today, in our 2019 Subaru Outback, we're going to be doing a test fit on the Kuat NV 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack which is part number NV-22B.This is a very high quality bike rack that's going to do a great job of securing your bikes with no frame contact and getting you from point A to point B wherever you need to go.The first feature I want to point out right away, which a lot of platform style racks have, is that it can tilt away from the vehicle so you can gain access to your trunk.There's a handle right here, we're going to pull down on and it just tilts away. Now we can just slide in here and open up our trunk. Doesn't even come close to making contact with our bike and we've got plenty of space to get in here and get whatever gear, cargo or even groceries that we might have in there.Now, to tilt it back up, you've just got to reverse the process. We're just going to grab a hold of the bike rack down in here, just tilt it up until it locks into place.Another cool feature is that we have a cable lock integrated in the back wheel platform right here. You will just wrap around either the wheel or the frame of the bike and it locks into itself like this. Just locks into itself, you get a key that's key to like for both of the cable locks and it's a great security feature so that no one can remove your bike without that key.Now, the bike itself is held in at two different points of contact. more

Hollywood Racks Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon HR200Z- Video

Today our 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon. We're going to be doing a test within the Hollywood racks trail rider platform style two bike rack, that's part number HR200Z. Now this bike rack, I've already got it loaded up on our Subaru just to give you a good idea what it looks like on a bike loaded up to it so you can see how it's going to hold our bikes.Now, it holds two bikes with the top tube here, the rubber coated frame hook puts down pressure on that top tube into the cradles, not the bad way to carry two bikes. You can see I'm giving it a little bit of a shake here and there's not a whole lot of movement. So again it's going to be a safe way to transport our two bikes.Now this bike rack doesn't have all the bells and whistles but that's okay because it's extremely easy to use. Now it also doesn't tilt away like most platform style bike racks, instead it has a unique way for loading and unloading your bikes, but we'll get to that in a second. more
