Best 2014 Ford F-150 Brake Controller Options

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the best brake controllers available for the 2014 Ford F-150. Now all of the brake controllers that we're going to look at today are proportional controllers. It's a newer technology available and it really is just a lot better than what the time-delayed systems used to be. Basically, with the time-delayed system it was preprogrammed when your brakes would engage. You'd hit the brake in your vehicle, there might be a pause before the brakes on your trailer actually engage. With the proportional controller, we don't have to worry about that. more

Today on our 2014 Ford F-150, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Tekonsha Primus IQ. This proportional brake controller works great for one up to three axles. It's part number is TK90160. Now to complete this installation we're also going to be using the Tekonsha Brake Controller Plug-In Adapter, part number 22292. If your vehicle's equipped with just the factory 4-pole, you're also going to need to pick up part number ETBC7. Now the Primus IQ is going to be an excellent solution for providing braking power to your trailer. This proportional brake controller is designed to sense the deceleration of our vehicle and give us the same amount of braking force or proportionate to the way the vehicle's stopping to our trailer. more

Today on our 2014 Ford F150 we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Tekonsha PowerTrac. This is a time delayed electronic brake controller that will work for one or two axles. Part number is 39523. We're also going to be using the Tekonsha brake controller pigtail adapter, part number 22292. The PowerTrac offers a great solution for getting braking power out of our vehicle and back to our trailer to where our brake assemblies can use it. The PowerTrac is a time delayed brake controller so unlike on that requires inertia to operate the system in here as soon as we step on our brakes it's going to send braking power back to our trailer, which will slowly ramp up to the maximum that we have set here. The maximum is fully adjustable. If we rotate the dial away from us that's going to decrease our braking power. more

This is a proportional brake controller that works great for one up to four axles. Part number on it is 90195. We're also going to be using the Tekonsha brake controller pigtail adapter, part number 22292. The P3 is a very nice brake controller. To start with, it's proportional so this is going to brake in relation to how we're braking in our truck, versus a time-delayed system. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2014 Ford F-150 90885

Today on our 2104 Ford F150 we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2. This is a proportional brake controller that works great on up to 4 axles. Part number on it is 90885. We'll also be using the Tekonsha Plugin Brake Controller Adapter, part number 22292. A great thing about the P2 is going to be how it constantly monitors the connection between our truck and our trailer. If our 7 pole we're to become unplugged, or we we're to have some kind of wiring short, you can see it's going to flash, "nc, nc." That's going to indicate to us that we're not connected. Once we get that connection put back in place it's going to go back to "c" indicating that we've got a proper connection and our brakes are going to work on our trailer. more

Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2014 Ford F-150 39510

Today on our 2014 Ford F150, we'll be installing the Takonsha Voyager Brake Control for 1 to 4 axles, part number 39510. We'll also be using the etrailer ETBC7 installation kit for brake controllers. With our power hooked up to our battery and our trailer hooked up to our brake controller, you can see we have a green light there. That means we have power going to our brake controller. This is our pendulum adjustment so when you level out your brake controller, you'll adjust that, and your power adjustment is on the side here. When you use your manual override, it will go from green to red so you know it's working. As you see, our truck is equipped for a 4-flat here on the back of the vehicle, and it is in a bracket. We're just going to go ahead slide that out of the bracket and tuck it behind our hitch, that way we can start to install our 7-way plug. more
