Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Today we are working on a 2008 Toyota Tacoma. We will be installing Tow Ready T-one connector part number 118496. Our first step will be to lower the tailgate. This will expose the mounting screws so that we can remove the rear taillight. They will be identical on the passenger side also. Let us go ahead and do that now. With our mounting screws removed, we can go ahead and remove the taillight. We will just work it back and forth until it comes free from its fasteners. With the taillight removed, you can see the connection here for our new Tow Ready connector. So we will depress the locking tab here on the backside of the connector and separate the two connection points. Once we disconnect the two connection points, the taillight lens will be free of the vehicle. We will take our yellow wire connector. It will match the manufacturer connection and we can plug them inline. Once it snaps in place, we can then go back to the vehicle connector on the other side and snap it into place. 1:00 more

Today on this 2006 Toyota Tacoma we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118496. First go ahead and lower the tailgate. Starting over here on the driver side, if you look on the inboard side of the bed, you can see we have a screw at the top and a screw here at the bottom. We need to go ahead and remove those to remove the taillight. With those two screws removed, we just want to take and kind of gently rock the taillight assembly back and forth. With the taillight pulled off, if you look on the backside here, you can see the main connector and that is the connector we are going to separate and plug our harness inline to. If you look towards the midline of the connector, you can see there is a little push button right there. If we press that in and pull away, we can separate the two pieces. I am just going to go ahead and set the taillight off to the side for a second. 0:50 more

Today we will be working on a 2011 Toyota Sienna. We will be installing Tow Ready T-one connector part number 118498. We are going to start by accessing the rear cargo area of the van. And we need to remove both taillight assemblies. They are each mounted with two 10 millimeter bolts. You can see this gives us access to the rear taillight wiring. I am going to go ahead and disconnect the lens from them now. On each connection, there is a small locking tab that must be depressed before disconnecting. I am going to go ahead and set my taillight lens assembly aside for now. We will reinstall that later. Now I am going to go repeat the same process on the passenger side. Next we want to remove the three cargo hooks so that we can remove this rear threshold. I am going to repeat the same process for the next two. Now that we have our cargo hook hold downs removed, we can go ahead and remove the rear trim panel. We will set that out of our way. You can see it gives us access to route our wiring from the driver to the passenger side. 0:55 more

Today on this 2011 Toyota Highlander we are going to install part number 118449 from Tow Ready. This kit comes with a few different pieces. It comes with a fuse that goes into the fuse holder underneath the hood. The module itself actually gets plugged underneath the dash of the vehicle. The 4-pole flat is actually plugged into a port that is at the rear of the vehicle. So we will start at the front and work our way back. The first thing we need to do is go ahead and get underneath the dash and we will go ahead and plug in the module in to its port. OK, this is the module itself. And this is the part that gets plugged in to the port underneath the dash. In this particular case, it is pretty easy to find. It stands right out. Just kind of pull it down a little bit and plug in to it. Now we will take our module box. It has an adhesive back to it. It will actually mount to this component above it in a nice, flat spot. 0:55 more

Today we will be working on a 2011 Toyota Camry Hybrid. We will be installing Tow Ready T-One Connector, part number 118482. For ease of installation, I recommend to remove the spare tire and trays. This will help you in gaining access behind the taillights for installation of your new T-one connector. First we are going to remove the cargo carrier tow hooks. Now that you have your cargo carrier hooks out of the way, we can remove our trim panel. You will see that this will give us access to peel back our carpet line and access our connector. Gently push down on the tab. Pop it free from the socket. And then we are going to use our new connector. Push them together firmly so they snap in place. You will see we have now installed our new harness in line with the vehicles current wiring harness. 0:54 more

Today on this 2006 Toyota RAV4, we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118412. We are going to start off in the rear cargo area of our RAV4. The ports that we are looking for are located inside the vehicle here, behind both the driver and passenger side panels, basically directly behind the taillight assemblies. So we are going to go ahead and need to remove a few items to gain access to these ports. We are going to start by removing the floor board, along with the cargo area. And then we will be able to pull back the panels and gain access to the plugs. Next I am going to go ahead and pull out the rear threshold piece. And to do that we are just going to need to release the mounting clips that are holding it into place on the top side here. We will be using a basic rivet removal tool and pry up gently to release the clips. With those released, we just want to come to the bottom of it here and we are actually going to lift straight up. Next we will move on to the interior panel and there are a couple of fasteners that are holding it into place, as well as the clips that we had on the rear threshold section. We have the tie-down bolt right here, a second one here, and a regular screw in this recessed hole here. So we want to go ahead and remove all of those and we will go ahead and pull our panel back. We will do that on both the driver and passenger side. 1:20 more

Today on this 2010 Toyota RAV4 we are going to install part number 118412 from Tow Ready. The first thing we need to do is get into the back of the vehicle so we can get access to our tail light harness. To begin our install we are going to have to remove some interior panels. We can fold this up out of the way. Now we want to get to this rear threshold and we want to remove that because we will be running a wire all the way across. We will use a trim panel tool to remove the rivets. Lets remove this access cover and next we need to remove this whole panel. We do not actually have to remove it but what we are going to do is pull it out so it is easier to slip the wires from back here out the other side. We need to remove this tie down point and this screw. Pop it loose. We are going to leave that alone for now and go over to the passenger side and do the same thing again. 01:14 more

Today on this 2010 Toyota Highlander we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 118449. The first thing I want to point out about our harness is that it comes in two separate pieces. We have got the first section which has an in line fuse in the modulite box as well as the port to plug in the vehicle. This is going to plug in underneath the dash on the driver side of the vehicle. The second part of the harness plugs into the rear of the vehicle inside the rear cargo compartment and that will finalize the tow package for us. We are going to start here inside the vehicle up underneath the dash and plug our first part of the harness in place. The port is located underneath the dash just left of the brake pedal taped to the main wiring harness. All we need to do in here is plug it in line and then we see on the back side of the modulite box we have got double sided tape. We want to find a good spot up in here and adhere the box to it. 00:54 more

The larger piece with the larger 10 pin port is going to plug in underneath the dash on the interior of the vehicle. The second part which contains our 4-pole end is going to plug in at the rear back in our cargo area. We are going to start off by plugging the larger section in underneath the dash first. The port underneath the dash is located just left of the brake pedal attached to the main wiring harness lead right there. Now that we have the port located we can plug our harness in line and then we want to take the modulite box and we need to adhere it to a surface underneath the dash.
