Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2022 Chevrolet Malibu

Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look and installing the Curt Class II Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu. Now this is what your hitch is gonna look like when it's installed, and you can see it is slightly visible from a lower angle, but as you're standing up or if you're in a car behind it, all you really see is the receiver opening. And this one is going to be an inch and a quarter. So you're gonna be a little bit limited as far as selection of bike racks, cargo carriers, and ball mounts but there's still plenty of them available to choose from. Now when you are putting your accessories in place, they're gonna be held in by a half inch pin and clip, and it does not come with the hitch. A lot of your accessories will come with a pin and clip, but if you want pick up an extra or a locking version that way you can lock your accessories in. more

Up here, we're going to have the Draw-Tite and right here, we're going to have the Curt. Now, before we get too carried away talking about the differences and similarities between the two, I'd like to point out which one I would personally choose for my own Malibu. I think I would go with the Curt, and that really just has to do with the appearance. That's why I would choose it. In my opinion, it's going to look a little bit more put together, especially the collar I think looks better. more

Today we are going to do an install of part number 90132 and we are going to do this on a 2004 Chevy Malibu. This also applies to part number 36317. Our first step is to go ahead and lower the exhaust. We do that by spraying the rubber hangers with some WD40 and pry off the rubber hanger. Once it is loose you can put it to the side for now. The next step is to remove these 2 nuts and take out these 2 bolts. These 2 in board weld nuts also must be removed. So what we will do is use a chisel and try and knock them out of there. Now you can go ahead and hang the hitch. It is a good idea to get an extra set of hands because a hitch is often wide and heavy. more

So we are going to start by lowering the exhaust down and then removing the four bolts from the end of the frame. We just want to basically pry the rubber hangers off of the studs here. To ease in the removal, we are going to go ahead and spray it down with a spray lubricant like a WD-40 . It makes the removal of the rubber hanger a lot easier. Before I remove the exhaust off its final hangers, I am going to go ahead and put a support strap on the exhaust tube here to keep it from falling once we remove all the hangers. The exhaust could fall too far down and that could possibly damage it. I am just using a basic tow strap you can use a bungee cord, as well. more
