Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we're going to be taking a look at the Thule Helium platform-style bike rack.So today on our Journey, we have the rack that can hold up to a total of two bikes, but if you don't need to carry two, there's a one bike version available as well.Now what really separates this platform-style rack from many of the others is how it's going to secure your bike. It's going to use two-wheel hooks. So one on the back tire and one on the front tire.And it's pretty unique. A lot of the other platform racks only use one wheel hook and usually a small strap or something like that here in the back. So, with two hooks, it's going to do a great job of keeping your bike secure.And because of that design, we're able to do something pretty cool. more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, well be test fitting the Softride Dura Parallelogram Tilting 4 Bike Rack, part number SR26247. Well begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. After lining up our pin holes, well thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pin holes and then tighten it down using a wrench. The bike rack secure, well go over a few clearance measurements to see how the 2 fit together. We have about 12 inches of ground clearance. Closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 4 inches away and weve added about 34 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. One great feature of this bike rack is that you have the ability to remove the arms. You can do this by sliding over the black tab on the backside of the upper part of the mast and simply pull the arm out. more

Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2014 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we will be test fitting the Saris Freedom, a platform style 4-bike rack for 2-inch hitches, part #SA4414B. To begin our test fit we'll slide the shank of our bike rack into the receiver tube of the hitch, line up our pin holes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt, tighten it with a wrench, then secure it with a clip. With our bike rack in this position we have about 11 3/4 inches worth of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of the Journey is about 8 1/2 inches and overall we have added about 18 1/2 inches to the length of the car. With our rack in this position, you can see we do have full access to our rear hatch. By pulling the gray lever, we can unfold our rack into the loading position. With our bike in this position, we do have about 20 inches of ground clearance, the closest point to the back our Journey is now about 11 1/2 inches and overall we've added about 41 inches to the length of the vehicle. We will now pull the yellow handles at the base of each mast to raise them into their upright position. more

After lining up the pin holes, we'll allow the integrated hitch pin to fall into place and we'll then turn the black knob to engage the anti-rattle device. With the bike rack secured, we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. The shank of the bike rack, we have about 12 1/2 inches of ground clearance. Going further out on the shank, here at the angle- up piece of the mast, we have about 16 inches of ground clearance. Closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 9 inches away and we've added about 18 1/2 inches to the overall length of our Dodge. Now I'll go ahead and lift up on the gray lever at the top of the mast, which will allow us to swing the cradle arms out. With the arms out we've added about 29 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey well be test fitting the Thule Apex Swing Hitch Mounted 4 Bike Rack, part number TH9027. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. After lining up our pin holes, we'll thread in our anti-rattle bolt and then tighten it down using a wrench. With the bike rack secured, we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. We have about 11-1/2 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 1-1/2 inches away, and we've added about 11 inches to the overall length of our Dodge Journey. We'll now go ahead and remove the silver pin at the base of the bike rack and tilt the platform down. With the bike rack in this position, we have about 20 inches of ground clearance at the back of the carrier. The closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 12 inches away, and we've added about 42 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. With the bike rack in this position, you can also see that we can easily access the rear hatch. more

Swagman Titan Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2014 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we will be test fitting the Swagman Titan, a Tilting 4-Bike Rack for 1 1/4" and 2" hitches Part #S63410 To begin our test fit, we'll side the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up our pinholes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it with the wrench. In this position you'll have about 15" of ground clearance, the closest point of the rack to the back of our Journey is about 9 1/2" and over-all we've added about 20 1/2" inches to the length of the vehicle. Pulling the handle at the base of the rack allows us to tilt it away from the vehicle giving us full access to our rear hatch. With our mast back in its upright position, we'll pull the handle at the top allowing us to swing out our dual-cradle arms. In this position we've added about 39" to the length of the vehicle. We'll now undo our cradle straps, grab our bike, placing it in to the frame cradles then securing it with the straps. With our bike secure that will complete today's test fit of the Swagman Titan Part# S63410 on our 2014 Dodge Journey. . more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we'll be test fitting the SportRack Super EZ Platform Style Hitch-Mounted 2 Bike Rack, part number SR2901LR. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. After lining up the pin holes, we'll thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pin holes and then tighten it down using a wrench. We'll then secure it with the lock on the other side. With the bike secured, we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. From the shank of the bike rack, we have about 12 inches of ground clearance. From the back of the bike rack, we have about 14-1/2 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 11 inches away, and we've added about 27 inches to the overall length of our Dodge Journey. To access the cargo area, we can remove the 3 black pins at the base of the bike rack, which will allow us to fold down the wheel cradles as well as the mast. more

Pulling the two pins at the top of the bike rack will allow us to swing out our dual cradle arms. We will want to lock them back in place, using those same pins. more

The closest point of the rack to the back of our Journey is about 4-1/2 inches, and overall, we have added about 11-1/2 inches to our vehicle. By pulling the gold-colored pin, we can unfold the bike rack into its loading position. As you can see, in this position, we do have full access to our rear hatch. more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey we will be test fitting the Saris Cycle-On, a platform style 2-bike rack for 2 inch hitches Part Number SA4024. To begin our test fit we'll slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of the hitch, line up our pin holes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt, tighten it with a wrench, and secure it with our lock. In this position we have about 11-3/4 inches worth of ground clearance. The closest point of our rack to the back of our vehicle is about 10-1/2 inches. Overall we've added about 16-1/2 inches to the length of the Journey. As you can see even with the bike rack in its stored position, we do have full access to our rear hatch. We will pull the pin at the base of the bike rack folding it down into its loading position, and we'll reinsert the pin to secure it. more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey we will be test fitting the Saris Axis, a tilting 3-bike rack for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number SA843B. To begin our test fit we will slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up our pinholes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt, tighten it with our wrench, and secure it with the provided lock. In this position we have about 12" of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of the vehicle is about 6-1/2". Overall we have added about 15-1/2" to the length of our Journey. Pulling the yellow handle at the base of the Saris Axis allows us to tilt the mast away from our vehicle, giving us full access to our rear hatch. We will now use the yellow levers on top of the rack to extend out our dual cradle arms. more

Hollywood Racks Traveler Tow n Go Bike Rack Review - 2014 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we'll be test fitting the Hollywood Racks Traveler Tow-n-Go hitch three bike rack, part number HR135. For today's test fit, we'll be using the Hidden Hitch ball mount with super extra long shank, part number 80232. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank and ball mount into the opening of the hitch. After lining up the pin holes, we'll then go ahead and secure it with the pin and clip, which is sold separately. Now, you'll notice with the bike rack and ball mount secured with just a pin and clip, there is some wobble. You can reduce that by purchasing an anti rattle device found on our website. To load up a bike, we'll remove the black pin at the top of the mast, which is going to allow us to swing the cradle arms out. With the cradle arms out, we can simply undo the cradle straps, place our bike into the frame cradles, then bring the rubber straps around and secure them. With our bike all loaded up, that will complete today's test spin of the Hollywood Racks Traveler Tow-n-Go, part number HR135 on our 2014 Dodge Journey. more

Yakima StickUp 2 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2013 Dodge Journey well be test fitting the Yakima Stickup two bike hitch-mounted folding bike rack for both inch and a quarter and two inch hitches, part number Y02420. Now with the included adapter already installed on our shank well go ahead and slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. Now that the bolt is tight, our bike rack is secured to the vehicle. At this point we can go ahead and give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance here at the bike rack is 12 inches, and with the platform up from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle is five and a quarter inches. Well now go ahead and unfold the bike rack platform and open our cargo door. more

Today on our 2013 Dodge Journey well be test fitting the Thule Apex Swing four bike carrier, part number TH9027. To begin our test fit, using the included two inch adapter, well slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole and allow the integrated locking hitch pin to fall into place. We can then move to the anti-rattle knob where well tighten it down, securing the bike rack to the vehicle. At this point we can go ahead and give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance here at the bike rack is 12 inches, and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle here at the anti-rattle knob is four inches. Well now go ahead and pull the hitch switch here at the top of the mast to bring out the dual arms, where we can then undo the straps to expose our cradles. more

Well then move to the back of the shank where well tighten the knob, securing out bike rack to the vehicle. We can now go ahead and give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance here at the bike rack is 16 inches, and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle is six inches. more

Yakima DoubleDown Ace Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2013 Dodge Journey well be test fitting the Yakima Doubledown Ace 4 part number Y02451. To mount our carrier to the vehicle, well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. Well line up the hitch pinholes and secure the bike rack with the safety pin then well come back and use the hand knob at the base of the carrier to tighten up the anti-rattle device. Now well go over a handful of clearance measurements. Weve got about 11 inches of ground clearance and 6 inches of clearance between the closest part of the vehicle and the closest part of the carrier. Overall, weve added about 13 inches of length to the rear of the vehicle with the carriers arms folded down. more

Thule Vertex 4 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2013 Dodge Journey well be test fitting the Thule Vertex 4 Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier, part number TH9029. To mount our carrier to the vehicle well insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. Well line up our hitch pin holes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a wrench. Next well go over a handful of clearance measurements. Weve got about 11 inches of ground clearance and 5 inches of clearance between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of the vehicle. Overall, weve added about 15 inches of length to the rear of the vehicle with the carrier arms folded down. more

Then well use the hand knob at the base of the bike rack to tighten the anti-rattle device. Next well go over a handful of clearance measurements. Weve got about 11-1/2 inches of ground clearance, 3 inches of clearance between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of the vehicle, and overall weve added about 16 inches of length to the rear of the vehicle with the carrier arms folded down. more

To mount our carrier to the vehicle, we'll insert the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of the hitch. We'll line up our hitch pin hole and then secure our bike rack with a standard 5/8-inch pin and clip. Next, we'll go over a handful of clearance measurements. We've got about 11-1/2 inches of ground clearance and 8 inches of clearance between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of the vehicle.
