Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2014 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we will be test fitting the Saris Freedom, a platform style 4-bike rack for 2-inch hitches, part #SA4414B. To begin our test fit we'll slide the shank of our bike rack into the receiver tube of the hitch, line up our pin holes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt, tighten it with a wrench, then secure it with a clip. With our bike rack in this position we have about 11 3/4 inches worth of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of the Journey is about 8 1/2 inches and overall we have added about 18 1/2 inches to the length of the car. With our rack in this position, you can see we do have full access to our rear hatch. By pulling the gray lever, we can unfold our rack into the loading position. With our bike in this position, we do have about 20 inches of ground clearance, the closest point to the back our Journey is now about 11 1/2 inches and overall we've added about 41 inches to the length of the vehicle. We will now pull the yellow handles at the base of each mast to raise them into their upright position. more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we'll be test-fitting the Thule Helium Aero hitch-mounted two bike rack, part number TH9042. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. After lining up the pin holes, we'll allow the integrated hitch pin to fall into place and we'll then turn the black knob to engage the anti-rattle device. With the bike rack secured, we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. The shank of the bike rack, we have about 12 1/2 inches of ground clearance. Going further out on the shank, here at the angle- up piece of the mast, we have about 16 inches of ground clearance. Closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 9 inches away and we've added about 18 1/2 inches to the overall length of our Dodge. Now I'll go ahead and lift up on the gray lever at the top of the mast, which will allow us to swing the cradle arms out. With the arms out we've added about 29 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. more

Well begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. After allowing the integrated hitch pin to fall into place, we then go ahead and turn the black knob, which will engage the anti-rattle device. With the bike rack secured, well go over a few clearance measurements to see how the 2 fit together. We have about 12-1/2 inches of ground clearance. Closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 5 inches away and weve added about 14-1/2 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. Well now go ahead and lift up on the gray lever at the top of the mast, which will allow us to swing the cradle arms of the bike rack outward. With the cradle arms in this position, weve added about 36 inches to the overall length of our Dodge Journey. more

The closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 1-1/2 inches away, and we've added about 11 inches to the overall length of our Dodge Journey. We'll now go ahead and remove the silver pin at the base of the bike rack and tilt the platform down. With the bike rack in this position, we have about 20 inches of ground clearance at the back of the carrier. The closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 12 inches away, and we've added about 42 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. With the bike rack in this position, you can also see that we can easily access the rear hatch. more

Swagman Titan Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2014 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we will be test fitting the Swagman Titan, a Tilting 4-Bike Rack for 1 1/4" and 2" hitches Part #S63410 To begin our test fit, we'll side the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up our pinholes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it with the wrench. In this position you'll have about 15" of ground clearance, the closest point of the rack to the back of our Journey is about 9 1/2" and over-all we've added about 20 1/2" inches to the length of the vehicle. Pulling the handle at the base of the rack allows us to tilt it away from the vehicle giving us full access to our rear hatch. With our mast back in its upright position, we'll pull the handle at the top allowing us to swing out our dual-cradle arms. In this position we've added about 39" to the length of the vehicle. We'll now undo our cradle straps, grab our bike, placing it in to the frame cradles then securing it with the straps. With our bike secure that will complete today's test fit of the Swagman Titan Part# S63410 on our 2014 Dodge Journey. . more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we'll be test fitting the SportRack Super EZ Platform Style Hitch-Mounted 2 Bike Rack, part number SR2901LR. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. After lining up the pin holes, we'll thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pin holes and then tighten it down using a wrench. We'll then secure it with the lock on the other side. With the bike secured, we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. From the shank of the bike rack, we have about 12 inches of ground clearance. From the back of the bike rack, we have about 14-1/2 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about 11 inches away, and we've added about 27 inches to the overall length of our Dodge Journey. To access the cargo area, we can remove the 3 black pins at the base of the bike rack, which will allow us to fold down the wheel cradles as well as the mast. more

Pulling the two pins at the top of the bike rack will allow us to swing out our dual cradle arms. We will want to lock them back in place, using those same pins. more

In this position we have about 11-3/4 inches worth of ground clearance. The closest point of our rack to the back of our vehicle is about 10-1/2 inches. Overall we've added about 16-1/2 inches to the length of the Journey. As you can see even with the bike rack in its stored position, we do have full access to our rear hatch. We will pull the pin at the base of the bike rack folding it down into its loading position, and we'll reinsert the pin to secure it. more

Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey we will be test fitting the Saris Axis, a tilting 3-bike rack for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number SA843B. In this position we have about 12" of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of the vehicle is about 6-1/2". Overall we have added about 15-1/2" to the length of our Journey. Pulling the yellow handle at the base of the Saris Axis allows us to tilt the mast away from our vehicle, giving us full access to our rear hatch. We will now use the yellow levers on top of the rack to extend out our dual cradle arms. more

Hollywood Racks Traveler Tow n Go Bike Rack Review - 2014 Dodge Journey- Video
Today on our 2014 Dodge Journey, we'll be test fitting the Hollywood Racks Traveler Tow-n-Go hitch three bike rack, part number HR135. For today's test fit, we'll be using the Hidden Hitch ball mount with super extra long shank, part number 80232. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank and ball mount into the opening of the hitch. After lining up the pin holes, we'll then go ahead and secure it with the pin and clip, which is sold separately. Now, you'll notice with the bike rack and ball mount secured with just a pin and clip, there is some wobble. You can reduce that by purchasing an anti rattle device found on our website. To load up a bike, we'll remove the black pin at the top of the mast, which is going to allow us to swing the cradle arms out. With the cradle arms out, we can simply undo the cradle straps, place our bike into the frame cradles, then bring the rubber straps around and secure them. With our bike all loaded up, that will complete today's test spin of the Hollywood Racks Traveler Tow-n-Go, part number HR135 on our 2014 Dodge Journey. more

The closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about eight inches away. We've added about 15 inches to the overall length to our vehicle with the cradle arms pointing down. We can now loosen up the black nobs on the upper left and right hand corner of the mast to swing the cradle arms out. more

Hollywood Racks Traveler Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan- Video
Today, on our 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan, we'll be test fitting the Hollywood Racks Traveler 4 Bike Rack, part number HR8500. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. We'll thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down using a wrench. With the bike rack secured, we'll go over a couple clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. We have about eleven and a half inches of ground clearance. Today on our 2011 Dodge Ram pickup, we'll be test fitting the Thule double-track platform-style two-bike carrier for inch and a quarter and two inch hitches. Part number TH990XT. We'll now pull the gray lever at the top of the mast to swing the cradle arms out and we'll measure from the tailgate to the end of the cradle arms and we'll get a measurement of about 39 inches.To access the bed of the pickup truck we'll pull the gray lever at the bottom of the carrier to tilt the mast down. This will allow us to have access to our tailgate. more

Today on our 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 we'll be test fitting the Kuat Sherpa Platform-Style Aluminum Two Bike Carrier, part number s102. To begin our test fit we'll slide the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch, line up our pin holes, insert our pin through the pin holes and secure with the lock on the other side.We'll now turn the black T-handle at the back of the shank to engage the anti-rattle device. Now with the Kuat Sherpa secured to our Dodge Ram we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how they fit together. With the platform folded up we have about 22 inches of ground clearance.The closest part of the carrier to the closest part of the vehicle here at the rear bumper is about 2-1/2 inches. With the platform folded up we've added about 14 inches to the overall length of the vehicle. We'll now pull up on the gold handle to tilt the platform down and with the platform folded down we have about 29 inches of ground clearance and added about 30 inches to the overall length of the vehicle.With the platform folded down we can lower the tailgate and see if the tailgate does come in contact with the bike carrier. more

There's about 18 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the carrier to the closest part of the vehicle here at the rear bumper is about 12 inches.With the cradle arms folded down we've added about 16 inches to the overall length of the vehicle. We'll now loosen up the knobs on the left and right hand side of the carrier to bring the cradle arms out. We'll then tighten them down securing the cradle arms into position. more
