Well begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch, lining up the pin holes, inserting the pin to the pin holes and secure the lock on the side. Well then turn the black T-handle at the back of the shank to engage the anti-rattle device. Now that our Kuat Sherpa is secured to our Ford Escape well go over a few clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. We have about 21 inches of ground clearance at the rear of the carrier with the platform folded up. Closest part of the carrier to the closest part of our Escape is here at the rear bumper about five inches away. Weve added about 16 inches to the overall length to the vehicle. To lower the platform well flip out the gold lever at the base of the carrier to tilt the platform down. With the platform folded down we have about 27 inches of ground clearance to the rear of the carrier. more

With the cradle arms folded down, we've added about 11 inches to the overall length of the vehicle. We'll now pull the grey lever at the top of the mast to swing the cradle arms out, and with the cradle arms out, we've added about 34 inches to the overall length of the vehicle.To load the bike, we'll undo the cradle straps, place the bike into the frame cradles and secure with the straps. To access the cargo area, we'll unscrew the black T-handle at the base of the carrier and then lift up on the black T-handle with a gold post. more

Yakima DoubleDown Ace 2 Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Explorer- Video
Today on our 2013 Ford Explorer, we'll be test fitting the Yakima DoubleDown Ace 2-bike carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" hitches, part number Y02450. To begin our test fit, we'll slide the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up the pin hole, and put in our pin. Then we'll move to the back of the shank, and use the hand knob to secure our bike rack to our vehicle and engage our anti-rattle device. Now we'll go ahead and go over a few clearance measurements. We have about 13" of ground clearance here at the rear of the carrier. The closest point of the carrier to the rear of the vehicle is about 5". more

Thule Apex 4 Swing Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2013 Ford Explorer- Video
Today on our 2013 Ford Explorer we'll be test fitting the Thule Apex Swing Four Bike Carrier for Two Inch Hitches, part number th9027. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the carrier into the receiver tube of our hitch. Line up the pin hole and allowing the attached pin to fall into place. We'll then use the hand knob here at the rear of the shank to secure our carrier to the vehicle and engage our anti-rattle device.Now we'll go ahead and go over a few clearance measurements. Here at the rear of the carrier we have a ground clearance of about 14 1/2 inches. The closest point of the carrier to the rear of the vehicle is about three and a half inches. more

Thule Apex 4 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2012 Ford Explorer- Video
Today on our 2012 Ford Explorer, we'll be test fitting the Thule Apex 4 Bike Carrier, part number TH9025. Now to begin our test fit, we'll slide the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch. Line up our pin holes, insert our spring loaded pin to the pin hole, and turn the black knob to engage our anti-rattle device. Now with the carrier secured to the vehicle, we'll go over a few clearance measurements to see how the bike carrier and its vehicle will fit together. There is about 15 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the carrier here at the anti-rattle knob to the closest part of the vehicle at the rear bumper is about 2 inches. more

Our ground clearance here at the bike rack measures 11 inches and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle here at the mast measures four inches. Well now pull the pin here on the back of the mast which will allow ups to tilt the mast down. more

Our ground clearance here at the bike rack measures 12 inches, and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle measures three inches. Well now go ahead and pull the hitch switch here at the bottom of the mast which will allow us to tilt the mast down and we can now open our cargo door. more

Now that the bolt is tight, our bike rack is secured to the vehicle. At this point well give you a few measurements. Here at the back of the bike rack our ground clearance is 11 inches. From the closest point of the bike rack here at the mast to the back of the vehicle measures five and a half inches. more

SportRack EZ Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2008 Ford Edge- Video
Today on our 2008 Ford Edge we'll be test fitting the SportRack 2-Bike Hitch Mounted Bike Carrier part number A30901. Now, to begin our test fit, we've already removed the 2-inch adaptor, so we'll slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. With the anti-rattle bolt tight, our bike rack is secured to the vehicle. At this point we can go ahead and give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance at the bike rack measures 17 inches, and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle here at the wheel loop measures 6 and a quarter inches. We'll now go ahead and unfold the bike rack platform. and open our cargo door. As you can see we can gain access to the cargo area even with this bike rack secured to the vehicle. more

SportRack Escape 3 Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2008 Ford Edge- Video
Today on our 2008 Ford Edge we'll be testfitting the SportRack Escape three bike hitch-mounted bike carrier for both inch and a quarter and two inch hitches, part number A30403. We've already gone ahead and removed the two inch adapter from our bike rack shank, so we're ready to fit it to the vehicle. We'll simply slide the shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pin hole, and install and tighten down our anti-rattle bolt. Now that the bolt is tight our bike rack is secured to the vehicle. At this point we'll go ahead and give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance here at the bike rack is twelve inches, and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle here at the mast measures seven inches. We'll now go ahead and pull the pin here at the bottom of the mast will will allow us to tilt the mast down, where we can then access our cargo area. As you can see we can gain access to the cargo area even with this bike rack secured to the vehicle. We'll now pull the pin here at the top of the mast and bring out the dual arms. more

Kuat Sherpa Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2008 Ford Edge- Video
Today on our 2008 Ford Edge we'll be test fitting the Kuat aluminum hitch-mounted 2-bike rack with wheel-mount cradles, part number S102. This is the Kuat Sherpa. Now to begin our test fit we've already gone ahead and removed the 2" adapter, so we'll slide the bike rack shank into the hitch, line up the hitch pinhole, and install our hitch pin. We can then move to the back of the shank where we'll tighten the knob down, securing our bike rack to the vehicle. At this point we'll give you a few measurements. Our ground clearance here at the bike rack measures 11-1/2" and from the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle is 2". We can now unfold the platform and open our cargo door. more

Our ground clearance here at the bike rack measures 12-3/4s inches. From the closest point of the bike rack to the back of the vehicle here at the mast, measures 4 inches. We can now pull the pin here at the bottom of the mast which will allow us to tilt the mast down. more

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape well be test fitting the Yakima Stickup two bike carrier, part number Y02420. To begin our test fit well slide the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch, line up the hitch pin holes, thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pin holes and tighten with a wrench. With our bike carrier secure to the vehicle well go ahead and go over a few clearance measurements to see how the bike carrier and this vehicle will fit together. Theres about 12 inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the vehicle to the closest part of the carrier is about two and a half inches from the vehicle at the rear bumper. With the platform folded up weve added about 15 inches to the overall length of the vehicle. more

Today on our 2013 Ford Escape, well be test fitting the Thule Double Track Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier, part number TH990XT. To begin our test fit, well slide the shank of the carrier into the opening of the hitch, line up our pinholes, thread our anti-rattle bolt through the pinholes and tighten with a wrench. Now with the carrier attached to the vehicle, well go ahead and go over a few clearance measurements to see how the bike carrier and this vehicle will fit together. There are about 11 and a half inches of ground clearance. The closest part of the vehicle to the closest part of the carrier here at the vehicles rear bumper is about 3 inches. With the platform folded up, weve added about 13 inches to the overall length of the vehicle. more
