Saris Freedom Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2013 Ford Taurus

Today on our 2013 Ford Taurus, we're going to be test fitting the Saris Freedom, a platform-style tilting Ford bike rack for 2-inch hitches, part number SA4414B. To begin our test fit we'll slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up our pin holes, put in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it with a wrench. We'll then secure it with the provided clip. In this position we'll have about 11 inches worth of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of our vehicle is about a quarter inch away. Overall we've added about 14 1/2 inches to the length of the Taurus. Pulling the gray lever at the top of the rack will allow us to tilt it away from our vehicle into the platform position. In this position we've got about 16 1/2 inches worth of ground clearance here at the rear of the rack. The closest point of the rack to the back of our vehicle has moved. more

To begin our test fit we're going to slide the shank of the rack right into the receiver tube of our hitch. On the passenger side we've got two threaded holes. We've got one here and one that's already inside the hitch tube there. more

Today, on our 2013 Ford Taurus, we're going to be test fitting the Saris Axis, a tilting 3 bike rack for 1-1/4 and 2-inch hitches with Part Number SA843B. To begin our test fit, we'll slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up our pinholes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt, and tighten it with a wrench. We'll then secure it with the provided lock. In this position, we have about 10-1/4 inches worth of ground clearance. The closest corner of the rack to the back of our vehicle is about 2-1/2 inches away, and overall, we've added about 12 inches to the length of the Taurus. Pulling the yellow T-handle at the base of the rack will allow us to tilt the mast away from our vehicle. As you can see, this does give us full access to our trunk area. With our mast back in it's upright position, let's extend our dual-cradle arms. more

To begin our test fit, we'll slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up our pin holes, thread in our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down with a wrench. We'll then secure it with the provided clip. Our rack will offer us about 9" of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of our vehicle is about 2" away. Overall we've added about 28" to the length of the Taurus. As you can see with our mast in its upright position we do have access to the trunk. more

Today on our 2014 Ford Explorer, we are going to be test fitting the Yakima Stickup two bike platform style hitch mounted bike rack for inch and a quarter and two inch hitches part number Y02420. We'll slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch. Line up our pin hole and thread in our anti rattle bolt tightening it down with the wrench. Then we can go ahead and install the pin on the other side. Now with our bike rack in this position, we have a ground clearance of about fourteen inches. The closest point of the bike rack to the rear of our Explorer is about three and a half inches and we've added about twelve inches to the overall length of our vehicle. We'll pull the pin at the base of the bike rack and allow it to unfold. This is going to allow us to have full access to our rear hatch door. more

The closest point of our Vertex to the rear of our Explorer is about 4 inches. more

With the bike rack in this position, we have a ground clearance of about 14 1/2". The closest point of the Apex to the rear of our vehicle is about 2". We've added about 13" to the overall length of our Ford Explorer. We'll pull the lever at the base of our bike rack and allow it to tilt away from our vehicle. This give us full access to our rear hatch door. With the bike rack back in it's upright position, we'll pull the lever at the top of the mast to swing our our dual arms. With these out, we've added about 37 1/2" to the overall length of our Ford Explorer. We'll go ahead and undo our cradle straps to expose our frame cradles. more

Swagman XTC4 Wheel Mount Hitch Bike Rack Review - 2014 Ford Explorer

Today on our 2014 Ford Explorer, we are going to be test fitting the Swagman XTC4, a platform style four bike rack for two inch hitches part number S64665. To begin our test we'll slid the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch, line up our pinholes, thread in our anti rattle bolt and tighten it down with the wrench. We can then secure it with the provided lock. In this position we have about thirteen and a quarter inches worth of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of our vehicle is only about an inch and a half away. However we are trying to manipulate it, we couldn't get it to make contact with our bumper and overall we've added about eight and a half inches to the length of the Explorer. Pulling the large silver pin and clip located at the base of the rack will allow us to tilt it away from our vehicle into its platform position. We'll reinsert the pin to hold it here and as you can see this gives us great access into our hatch. In the platform position our bike rack is going to offer us about twenty one inches worth of ground clearance here at the rear. more

The closest point of the rack to the back of our vehicle is about 4" away, and overall we've added about 17" to the length of the Explorer. Pulling the gray level at the top of the rack will allow us to tilt it away from our vehicle into platform position. In this position we have about 23 1/4" worth of ground clearance. The closest point of the rack to the back of our vehicle has now moved to about 10 1/4" away, and overall we've added about 37 1/4" to the length of our SUV. As you can see in this position, we do have full access to our rear hatch. more

Today on our 2014 Ford Explorer, we're going to be test fitting the Pro Series Q Slot. This is a platform style tilting two bike rack for 1 1/4" and 2" hitches, part number PS63134. Now, to begin our test fit, we're going to slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch here. We'll look through the window until we have our pinholes lined up. We'll then slide through our pin and secure it with our clip. Now with our bike rack in this position, we're going to have about 15 3/4" worth of ground clearance there at the rear. The closest point of the rack to the back of our vehicle would be right here and it's going to be about 6 1/2". Overall, we're adding about 24" to the total length of the Explorer. Now, the two pin and clips located here on the outside the rear will allow us to tilt our wheel cradles down. more

Today on our 2014 Ford Explorer, we're going to be test-fitting the Rhino-Rack folding and tilting 4-bike rack for 2 inch hitches, part number RBC038. Now, to begin our test fit, we're going to slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of our hitch. As we slide it in, well want to look through the window here to see when our pinholes line up. With them lined up, well throw on our anti-rattle bolt and tighten it down with a wrench. With that bolt tightened, as you can see, it really tightens up our connection there. We have no play in it, nice and secure. We'll then take our lock, provided from Rhino-Rack and lock it into place. We'll take our dust cover and cover up that lock. more

We can now unscrew the black wheels on the upper left and right hand corner of the mast to swing out our dual arms. With the cradle arms out we've added about 40-1/2 inches to the overall length of our Ford Explorer. more

For today's test fit we'll be using the Hidden Hitch ball mount with an extra long shank, part number 80232. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the ball mount into the opening of the hitch. After securing it with a pin and clip we're ready to load up our bike. We'll remove the black pin at the top of the mast and swing out our dual arms. more

Today on our 2013 Ford Edge we'll be test fitting the SportRack Super EZ platform style two bike rack, part number SR2901LR. We'll begin our test fit by sliding the shank of the bike rack into the opening of the hitch. After threading in our anti rattle bolt we'll tighten it down with a wrench and secure it with a lock on the other side. With the bike rack secured, we'll go over a couple of clearance measurements to see how the two fit together. We have about 13-1/2 inches of ground clearance. Closest part of the bike rack to the closest part of the vehicle is about nine inches away, and we've added about 24 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. To access the rear hatch, we can pull the three black pins at the base of the bike rack and tilt the wheel cradles down as well as the mast. As you can see, we can easily gain access to the rear hatch. more

Today, on our 2011 Ford Edge, we'll be test fitting the Softride Dura Parallelogram tilting four-bike rack for inch and a quarter and two inch hitches, part number SR264247. To begin out test fit, we'll slide the shank of the bike rack into the receiver tube of the hitch. We'll line up our pin hole and thread in our anti-rattle bolt tightening it with a wrench and installing our lock. Now, we'll go over a few clearance measurements. We have about 11 inches of ground clearance. The closest point of the bike rack to the rear of the vehicle is about an inch away. We've added about 32 inches to the overall length of our Ford Edge. We'll undo our cradle straps to expose our cradles, grab our bike, place it onto the frame cradles and secure by tightening down each strap. more

Now we'll go over a few clearance measurements. We have about 18 inches of ground clearance. The closest point of the bike rack to the rear of our Explorer is about 9 inches. We have added about 18 inches to the overall length of our vehicle. We will pull the pin at base of the bike rack and allow it to tilt away from our Explorer, this gives us full access to our rear hatch. With the mast back in it's upright position and the pin reinstalled, we will pull the pin at the top of our mast to swing out our dual arms. With these out, we have added about 39 inches to the overalllength of our Ford Explorer. more

We'll then use the hand knob to secure the bike rack to the vehicle and engage our anti-rattle device. Now we'll go over a few clearance measurements. We have about nineteen and a half inches of ground clearance. The closest point of the bike rack to the rear of our vehicle is about three inches. We've added about fourteen and a half inches to the overall length of our Ford Explorer. We'll pull the lever at the top of the mast to swing out our dual arms. With these out, we've added about thirty-nine inches to the overall length of our explorer. We'll undo the cradle straps to exposure our cradles, grab our bike, place it into the frame cradles, and secure it by tightening each strap. Now we'll move to the back side of the mast and loosen up the T-handle. more

We'll pull the pin at the base of the bike rack and allow it to tilt away from the rear of our vehicle. This gives us full access to our rear hatch. With the mast back in its upright position and the pin reinstalled, we'll pull the pin at the top of the mast to swing out our dual arms. With these out we've added about 37 inches to the overall length of our Ford Explorer. We'll undo the cradle straps to expose our cradles. We'll grab our bike, place it onto the frame cradles and secure it by tightening each strap. That completes today's test fit of the Hollywood Racks Traveler four bike rack, part number HR8500 on our 2007 Ford Explorer. . more
