Best 2016 Mazda CX-5 Trailer Hitch Options

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today, on our 2016 Mazda CX-5, we're gonna be checking out our best trailer hitch options. Today we're gonna be checking out four different hitches. So right here we have the etrailer hitch, this one's the Curt hitch, this one right here is the EcoHitch, and this one here is the Draw-Tite hitch. Now, before we kind of get too carried away talking about some of the differences and similarities, I'd just like to point out, you know, which one I would go with and a little bit why. And honestly, they're all pretty similar, and, you know, you really can't go wrong with any of them to be quite honest, but if I had to go with one, I feel like it would really just depend on what I planned on doing with it. more

Rob: Rob here at etrailer.com and today we're going to be taking a look at the etrailer class three custom fit trailer hitch receiver on our 2016 Mazda CX5. Now our etrailer hitch is going to have a really clean appearance on here because the cross tube is going to be completely hidden behind the bumper and the only thing we're going to see is that receiver tube sticking out. Now a hitch can be good for a lot of different things. We can put a cargo carrier in here, make a little bit more room on the inside of our CX5. But if we want to hit the trails with some friends, put a bike rack in there and take some bikes with us or if we need to move a camper, a trailer or even a jet ski trailer, go down to the lake, we can put that in there. But regardless of how we're going to use our hitch, all of our accessories are going to mount to the hitch pin hole here on the side and our hitch is going to accept a standard 5/8 pin and clip. Now these are not going to be included with the hitch. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5 - Curt

Speaker 1: Today on this 2016 Mazda CX-5, we're going to review and install the Curt trailer hitch, part number C12170. Now, this is one of the smaller hitches that you can put on your CX-5, and it's great for a variety of applications. First off, it's a trailer hitch, so if you've got a real light-duty trailer, some single axle trailer with 12" wheels on it, this would be a perfect match for that kind of trailer. Also, if you're not going to be pulling a trailer, this is going to be great for a bicycle rack. This 1 1/4" size does lend you up to a variety of bicycle racks, and up to four bikes carrying capacity, in some cases. Also, if you run out of room inside your vehicle, and you need to use a cargo carrier, this will work with a variety of those as well.As you can see, not much is showing on the hitch. All we have is our 1 1/4" opening right here, and our safety chain loops. more

Today on our 2016 Mazda CX-5 we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Curt Class III Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number C13315. Here's what our hitch looks like fully installed. The cross tier's going to be hidden underneath, and it is a class III, so it's going to give us that two-inch by two-inch opening. It has a nice, reinforced collar, giving it that nice clean finished look. Now our safety chain loops are going to be a rolled steel stock style welded to the bottom of our receiver tube, and as you can see we're not going to have any issue getting most size hooks on or off. Now, our hitch is going to use a standard 5/8 pin and clip. It's not included, but you can pick one up on our website using part number PC3. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5

Today on our 2016 Mazda CX-5, we're going to take a look at, and show you how to install the Draw-Tite Custom Fit Class II Trailer Hitch Receiver. This offers the 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. Its part number is 36601. Here's what your hitch is going to look like installed on your vehicle. As you can see, a very nice thing about it is that our cross-tube remains completely hidden, so the only thing we're really going to be adding to the rear of the vehicle is going to be the receiver tube area here, and our safety chain connection points. You see it snugs up nicely right underneath the fascia, and it doesn't require any trimming to get it in this orientation. Now this is a Class II hitch, that means its got the 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver tube opening, and it's going to be pretty versatile. This is something that with Class II accessories you can carry large cargo carriers, you can carry the bigger bike racks and things like that. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5 - Curt C12080

Today on our 2016 Mazda CX5 we'll be installing our Curt inch and a quarter class two trailer hitch part number C12080. As you can see, none of the framework of the hitch is exposed at all. It's all hidden up behind our bumper here. The only part that hangs down is the actual inch and a quarter receiver here with our provided safety chain loops here. These safety chain loops are where we can hook the safety chains from our trailer up onto. So you can see they're real thin and narrow there so we won't have any issues hooking up even the smallest of safety chains. We have our standard half inch hitch pin receiver hole right here. more

Today on our 2016 Mazda CX-5, we'll be having a look at the Curt Class III 2-inch Receiver Trailer Hitch, part number C13127. This is what our Curt Class III 2-inch Trailer Hitch Receiver looks like installed on the back of our CX-5. As you can see, the only part that really sticks out is the 2-inch receiver itself. The body of the hitch is stuck up underneath the bumper cover, so you don't see it at all. It provides just a very clean installation here. It has a nice gloss black powder coat finish, so it looks like it came from the factory with this hitch installed on it. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2016 Mazda CX-5 - Draw-Tite 36602

Today on 2016 Mazda CX5, we will be installing the Draw-Tite Class 2 inch and quarter trailer hitch, part number 36602. With our hitch installed on our Mazda CX5, you can see how well tucked up it is behind the bumper. The only thing you can really see hanging down is the inch and a quarter receiver here and our safety chain loops here, which are very easy to hook safety chains onto because they are not very thick and recessed, so you can hook on even the smallest of safety chains really easily. This hitch has a 300 pound max tongue weight rating and a 3500 max gross trailer weight rating. Obviously you will want to consult the owner's manual of your CX5 to figure out which number is lower. If it is rated for a lower amount than what the hitch is rated for, obviously you will want to go by that number. You don't want to exceed the limitations of your vehicle. For a couple of measurements here to better assist you in choosing any hitch mounted accessories you may need. From the center of our 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin hole to the back of our bumper, we are looking at about 6 inches. more
