Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Honda Odyssey - Curt

Today on our 2006 Honda Odyssey, we'll be installing the Curt hitch part number C13068. First, before we install the hitch, let's go ahead and point out the attachment points. We'll have a total of 5 attachment points. They'll be 4 weld nuts, 2 on each side, and the forward attachment point on the driver's side. The forward attachment point here on the driver's side is the 7/16 carriage bolt and block, along with a 7/16 pull wire or bolt leader provided with our install kit, and then a 7/16 flange nut. Each one of these weld nuts will need to be cleaned out prior to installation. To clean them out, we use a little spray lubricant and a 1/2 inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092. To get our carriage bolt and block into the frame, we'll take our bolt leader, feed it through the attachment point and out the access hole. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Honda Odyssey - Curt C12031

Today on our 2006 Honda Odyssey, we'll be installing the Curt Hitch part number C12031. This is what our hitch will look like, once it's installed. Next, we'll go ahead give a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outer most edge of the bumper is 3 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 13 and a half inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now, let's go ahead with the installation. First, before we install the hitch, let's go ahead and point out the attachment points. We have a total of 5 attachments points. There will be 4 weld nuts, 2 on each side, and the fourth attachment point on the driver side. The fourth attachment point here on the driver side is the 7/16 carriage bolt and block along with a 7/16 pull wire or bolt leader, provided with our install kit and then a 7/16 flange nut. Each one of these weld nuts will need to be cleaned out prior the installation. To clean them up, we use a little spray lubricant and a half inch nylon toothbrush, part number 814092. To get our carriage bolt and block into the frame, we'll take our bolt leader, feed it through the attachment point and out the access hole. Then, we'll go ahead and slide the block under the bolt leader and thread it on our carriage bolt. We'll feed them both up into the frame and pull them in the position. At this time, we'll go ahead and leave the bolt leader on as it will assist us in putting the hitch in place without pushing our hardware back up into the frame. Now we're ready to go ahead and take the new 12 millimeter bolts and conical tooth washers, with the teeth of the washers facing the hitch, and put our hitch in place. We'll take the hitch, feed the passenger side up over the exhaust and then bring the driver side up into position. As we do this, we'll take the bolt leader and feed it through the fourth attachment point on the hitch and bring in the hitch into position, securing it with our new hardware. Now, with the 2 bolts in place on the driver side, I'll go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Next, we'll go ahead and remove the bolt leader and install the 7/16 flange nut. Now, with all our hardware in place, we can go ahead and tighten it down. Next, we'll go ahead and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. That will complete the install of our Curt Hitch part number C12031 on our 2006 Honda Odyssey. more
