Best 2005 Ford Escape Trailer Hitch Options

Today we're going to be taking a look at the best hitch options for your 2005 Ford Escape. First, we've got the Curt class 3 receiver hitch, part number 13650. And then we've got the Draw-Tite class 3 receiver hitch, part number 75751. Curt also has class 3 hitch, part number C13651, and it's not on the rack. It's going to look exactly the same and give us the same features. The only difference is your only able to use it on Escapes that come with the factory one and a quarter inch hitch. The biggest difference that we're going to see between these two hitches is that the Draw-Tite is going to have higher weight capacities than the Curt. more

We'll have a total of four attachment points, two on each side. These attachment points will be secured with the hardware provided with our install kit and utilizing the pre-drilled holes in the manufacturers frame. Securing each attachment point will be a 1/2 inch carriage bolt and block that will get fed through the frame, out the attachment point, through the hitch. We will secure it with a conical tooth washer and nut. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. Now to get our hardware in position here on the drivers side we'll need to open up the oval slotted hole here at the bottom of the frame large enough that we can fit our block and carriage bolt into the frame. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2005 Ford Escape

Today on this 2005 Ford Escape we are going to install part number 87585. This will also apply to part number 75693. First we will show you where the hitch is going to mount up to the vehicle. It is going to use this existing hole right here and these two holes in the side of the frame. We are looking at the driver side of the vehicle and it is going to be identical on the passenger side of the vehicle. Lets start installing the hardware, install it to this part of the frame right here and we will use this as our access hole and we are going to use this wire pull to pull the bolt through and this does come with the kit, it is pretty simple to use. Run it through the hole we are going to use and then out the access hole. We have got the wire pull and we are going to slide our block into the frame on the wire and then thread in the bolt. Then put it head first, a little easier to work into the frame to pull it out the hole. Then we will do the same thing back over on the passenger side. 01:09 more
