To gain easier access to our attachment points, especially on the passenger side above the exhaust, we'll lower the exhaust by removing to two fasteners securing the rear hangers. One, just front of the rear muffler and one just behind the front muffler. With our exhaust lowered and out of the way, we'll go ahead and remove the manufacturer's hardware. However, we will hang onto it as we'll use it to secure the hitch to the vehicle. Now, with the exhaust down and out of the way, we'll install the air conditioning line protector to prevent any contact with the hitch. We're ready to put our hitch in place. Take the passenger side, feed it up over the exhaust. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Chrysler Town and Country

Today we are going to install part number 36455, a Draw-Tite Class II receiver hitch, on a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country. This hitch is going to attach to the frame by using these bolts right here. So we will take these bolts out and they will be reused in the installation of the hitch. As you can see, on the passengers side the exhaust is blocking our access to these bolts. So we will need to get that out of the way. This is going to be the first of two exhaust hangers we are going to take down we will start taking this one off first. OK, we have got our exhaust down and out of the way. We actually put a little strap on it just to hold it out of the way so it is a little easier to see what is going on. When we undo the flash bolt right here, this is actually connected to a bracket inside the frame for the bumper, so this actual part of the bumper here - it is actually going to - when we let go of this bolt the bracket is going to tilt up inside the frame. So you want to take care when you take out the bolt to be careful you do not move the bracket around too much. more

We are over here on the drivers side frame rail, and there are three attaching points: one there, one there, one there. So we are going to need to remove all three of these bolts. All the hardware for the hitch is actually already in the frame of the vehicle so there is going to be no bolt kit that comes with the hitch. Again, it is this one, this one, and this one that need to be removed. And if we go over here to the passengers side, we are going to have to go ahead and take the exhaust off the hanger to access the passengers side bolts. You can kind of see there is one toward the rear here near the bumper, and then one a little bit more forward, as well. We need to remove those bolts. more
