SumoSprings Maxim Front Helper Springs Installation - 2016 Ford F-53

Today in our 2016 Ford F53 chassis with the FR3 by Forest River body, we're going to take a look at and show you how to install the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs to the front axle. These are part number SSF-184-40-1. This is what our helper spring kit's going to look like when we pull it out of the package. This is a full custom setup. This is going to allow for really very, very easy installation. The reason we use these custom springs is basically to help to reduce body roll. Now, body roll can happen a lot of times as we head down the road, whether it's an uneven road surface that kind of pitches our motor home one side to the other. more

Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System Installation - 2009 Ford F-150- Video

Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System Installation - 2009 Ford F-150

Today on our 2009 Ford F150 we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part number TFR1504D. This is what our truck's original suspension looks like. You can see our rear axle taking the brunt of our heavy load. This will result in our rear end sagging while the front end rise is giving us decreased stability, steering, and traction. Afterwards the Timbrens are installed, you can see that our rear suspension will have increased stability. Our truck will have better performance while hauling heavy loads because our truck is leveled out from front to back. You're going to have a hollow Aeon Rubber Spring here. That's going to help compensate for an off-center load, so if you have more weight on one side of the vehicle than the other, it's going to allow it to operate separately from one side to the other. more

SumoSprings Maxim Rear Axle Helper Springs Installation - 2014 Ford F-53- Video

SumoSprings Maxim Rear Axle Helper Springs Installation - 2014 Ford F-53

Today on our 2014 Ford F53 Jazzy RV, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Sumo Springs Maximum Custom helper springs for the rear axle, part number SSR-187-54-1. Here's what they're going to look like once the Sumo Springs are installed. As you can see, they're right in there bolted to the frame and they're also bolted down to the lead spring and what these springs are going to do is they're going to help to support a heavy rear load to keep the vehicle level. They're also going to help to absorb bumps and shots while driving down the road. I think one of the most important features is that it's going to minimize the sway and body roll when you're going through turns and you're out on the road because that's just going to help it feel a lot safer and sturdier. These springs feature progressive load control so when there isn't as heavy of a load on them, it's going to be softer and therefore give it a nicer ride and when there's a heavier load, they're going to get stiffer to help support it properly. If you're looking for something that's going to help level out your motor home when you've got it loaded with all your gear but also to minimize that body roll and sway when rolling down the road and make it easier on the driver, these springs are going to do that for you. Now let's take it out on the test course. Going over the alternating speed bumps, you can see it recovers a lot quicker and there isn't nearly as much suspension, articulation, and body roll. more

SumoSprings Maxim Front Axle Helper Springs Installation - 2014 Ford F-53

Today in our 2014 Ford F3 Chassis Motorhome, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the SumoSprings Maxim Custom Helper Springs for the front axle, part number SSF-180-40-1. Here's what the SumoSprings are going to look like once they're installed on the motorhome. As you can see, it bolts up to the frame but also using clamps and carriage bolts, bolts down through the leaf spring itself. These SumoSprings help to support a heavy front load to help keep the vehicle level, especially with motorhomes that have slide-outs. They also help to absorb bumps and shocks for a smoother ride. They feature progressive load-control, which means with lighter loads, it will give a softer, nicer ride, and with heavier loads, the springs get stiffer to make sure that they RV doesn't sag and that your ride quality doesn't suffer. These springs help to improve the ride of the motorhome when gear is loaded up and it's fully weighted and it minimizes body-roll and sway to make it easier on the driver on long road trips. more

It's going to be a no-drill design. It bolts on using existing holes in our frame. Now, these are going to help with the load-carrying capacity of your vehicle. They're not going to increase the load capacity, just going to help with the load-carrying capacity that it already has. more

We're sitting about 18 and a quarter inches from the front edge of our cargo carrier to the ground right here. Now, for an additional measurement besides having the cargo carrier let's measure from the center line of the wheel up to the wheel well with no weight on it, we're 33 inches thereabout. Let's put the weight on it and see how it changes. All right, now we have about 250 pounds on the back of our cargo carrier. more

On the front in the center line of the wheel going straight up to top of the wheel arch here we're looking at about 37 1/2 inches. On the back, once again following the center line of the wheel up to the top of the wheel arch we're looking about 39 1/2 inches. Now with those measurements let's go ahead and get some weight in the back of the truck bed. Today on our 2013 Ford F250 Super Duty, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Air Lift Loadlifter 5000 ultimate air helper springs with internal jounce bumpers, part number AL88396. Here's what they look like once they're installed. Some of the reasons you might want these, it's going to help stabilize your load, and if you have an off center load like one side is heavier than the other, you can independently air up each bag and get your vehicle set level. With the internal jounce bumper, it's going to help improve your ride quality. When you do have your vehicle riding level, you're not going to aim your headlights into the eyes of the oncoming traffic. These are going to help level your load up to 5000 pounds. You want to keep in mind, you have to keep at least five pounds of air in the bag at all times, and the maximum is going to be 100 pounds of air pressure when you're hauling a load. With many of our customers have said that these do work well with this wheel hitches, just have to use the original hardware that came with your fifth wheel hitch, the bolt through the center there, to mount your air bags. Our vehicle about any weight in it, at the rear wheel well, the bottom of the rear wheel well, it's going to be about 40 3/4", and on the front, we're going to be right at about 40". more

As you can see, our air spring fits inside the spring on the suspension, here in the back. There's an air line that goes from the top down, to a built in fitting that's on the inside. That's what it looks like on top. The air line goes directly into here. more

Today on our 2008 Ford F250, we're going to be installing the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Spring. These are double convoluted and for the rear axle, part number is F2550. Before we install our helper springs from Firestone, we're going to get a measurement and see how this truck sits normally and unloaded. As you can see, we've got about 41 1/4" to the bottom edge of our wheel well. We'll put some weight in the back, that's going to draw that down some and we'll get another measurement. Now that we've added just a little bit of weight to the back of the truck, we're now going to see that the suspension's taken some of the load that we're now down to about 39 3/4". So, we lost about 1 1/2" of our level here in the rear. Here on our driver's side, just above our jounce, we do have the fuel lines that are going to run right through there. more

Today on this 2004 Ford F-350 Super Duty, we're going to install part number F2550. This is the Firestone Ride Right Air Helper Springs. A few notes about our install, is that to make things a little bit easier, we removed the spare tire to get it out of our way. Now also this vehicle had a previous set of air springs installed, and has since been removed. Typically there'd be a john stop that we'd have to remove from the bottom of the frame, but that's already been removed. We'll start with basically a bone-stock frame. There's pre-existing bushing that's in the frame. We'll need to reuse that. more

Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System Installation - 2004 Ford F-150

Today on our 2004 Ford F150, we'll be installing the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System, part #TRF150D. To begin our install, we'll first need to remove the old manufacturer's bump stops. To do that, there is a bolt that goes up through the center of the bump stop, then remove the bump stop and bolt. We'll go ahead and set those aside as they will not be reused. There are 2 options when installing the suspension enhancement system. For maximum capacity at all times, you'll use the ion spring, spacer spring, and top plate. With this setup you'll also be using the longer of the 2 bolts provided with the install kit. For our application, however, we're going to go with the lesser capacity which means we'll remove the center spacer and use the shorter, full threaded bolt. To assemble it, we'll take the bolt, go through the washer on the inside of the ion spring, then through the top of the spring, then we'll go through the top plate, holding it in place. Now we're ready to install it on the vehicle on the manufacturer's clip nut that is secured to the frame. more

Without the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement installed, and with about a hundred gallons of water in the bed of the vehicle, it's squats the opening to about 39 1/2 inches from the ground to the top of the wheel well. Now that we have our system installed, now we'll go ahead and put the water tank back in the vehicle and we'll get another measurement. Now it measures 39 and 3/4 inches from the ground to the top of the opening in the wheel well. To begin with, we'll need to go underneath the vehicle and we'll need to remove the original bump stop from each side. We'll be removing the rubber piece by removing the bolt as well as the center spacer from each side. The bolt will come out from above the bracket. more

Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System Installation - 2010 Ford F-150

Today on our 2010 Ford F-150 Super-crew, we'll be installing the Timbren rear suspension enhancement system, part number TFR1504D. To begin with, you'll need to raise the vehicle off the ground, so that the rear axle is hanging freely. Once this done, you'll need to go ahead and remove the existing bump stop, using a 13mm socket. The bolt is up inside the center of the bump stop. Once you have each of the bump stops removed from each side, we'll first go ahead and install each of the brackets, on each side of the frame, keeping in mind that they are marked right and left, or in this case there's a left sticker on one of the 2 brackets. You'll want the 2 prongs to go to the inward side of the vehicle's frame. When we install these, we use the lock washer supplied with the kit, as well as the shortest of the 3 bolts. We'll go ahead and tighten them down. Now you will see inside the new bump stops, there's already a flat washer, as you will need to make sure that thread the bolt through the flat washer and through the opening on the other side of the bump stop. With this done, we can ahead and thread it into the bottom of the new bracket that we just installed. more

Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs Installation - 2005 Ford F-250

Today on our 2005 Ford F-250, we'll be installing the Firestone Ride Rite Air Helper Spring Kit, part number F2400. First, we've gone ahead and raised the vehicle up, lowered and removed the spare tire to give us more access underneath the vehicle. Now, we need to remove the jounce bumper here on the passenger side. Keep in mind, loose so you 00:00:22 get the nut that secures the jounce bumper in place. The more difficult would be as the nipple at the top of the jounce bumper will come out of the frame, so maybe necessary to secure it with a pair of pliers or Channellocks. Now with the jounce bumper out of the way, we're ready to go ahead and install the upper bracket. The upper bracket will consist of the metal bracket, the attachment bolt that will go through the bottom of the bracket to this spacer block, then to the frame at the point of where we just removed the jounce bumper. We'll secure it with a large flat washer and 3/8 lock nut. We also secured the upper bracket using a 3/4 inch, 3 inch bolt flat washer running it from outside of the frame to the inside through the bracket, then adding a large flat washer, split lock washer, and 3/4 inch nut. With both fasteners in place and secure, we're ready to move onto the lower bracket. more

Air Lifr AirCell Custom Helper Springs Kit Installation - 1999 Ford F-250

Today, on our 1999 Ford F 250, we'll be installing the Air Lift Air Cell Custom Helper Springs, Part Number Al52215. Note, we've already gone ahead and lowered and removed the spare tire to make it easier to access the manufacturer's bump stops. These bump stops are bolted to the frame, one on each side. Noting that each process we do on one side, will get repeated identically on the opposite side. Starting on the driver side, we'll go ahead and spray the bump stop bolt with some spray lubricant because over time it's going to build up with rust, dust, dirt, and debris and can be very difficult to remove the manufacture's hardware over time. Next, we'll go ahead and start removing the nut from the stud. Note, in extreme cases it may be necessary to physically cut the stud from the frame. Now that we've got the stud cut, we're going to go ahead and use our pry bar to break the stud and remove it completely. more

The difference between this Air Lift air bellow and another without the internal jounce bumpers, is that it won't be completely compressed like one that does not have an internal jounce bumper. First we'll go ahead and compress the air helper spring with jounce bumper. Then we'll do one without. Here is a side-by-side comparison. With the internal jounce bumper, it will prevent the air bellow from being pinched if you we're ever to lose air while the vehicle is loaded. Today on our 2011 Ford Super Duty well be installing the firestone level command two dual gauge with heavy duty compressor, part number F2219 to an already existing firestone airbag suspension system, part number F2535. To begin our install well first go ahead and take the compressor and find a suitable mounting location. Because theres no room underneath the hood to install a compressor, we will go underneath the vehicle and on the inside of the frame, near the engine compartment is a good mounting location. Using the compressor as a template and our 3/16 drill bit we will go ahead and mark the frame. Once weve marked the frame well take the compressor out of the way and drill out or holes. Then using the hardware provider well go through the compressor attachment point, through the frame and secure it on the inside of the frame with an additional flat washer and nylon lock nut. more

The drivers side installs the exact same way with a few minor additions. On the drivers side you'll want to make sure that you keep the wiring harness out of the way of the air spring and the hardware. Also the kit comes with an emergency brake cable clamp that you'll bolt into place to hold the emergency brake out of the spring. more
