Trailer Hitch Installation - 2007 Ford Freestyle - Draw-Tite 36360

Today on our 2007 Ford Freestyle, we'll be installing a Draw-Tite hitch, part number 36360. Here's what our hitch looks like on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a few measurements to help you in choosing some accessories for your hitch, such as a bicycle rack or cargo carrier. On the center hitch pin hold to the edge of the bumper is approximately three and a half inches and from the top of the opening of the receiver to the ground is approximately 14 and a half inches. Now we'll go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with, we'll need to remove the two bolts that hold the exhaust hanger on the muffler on the driver's side of the vehicle. Go ahead and use a safety strap to allow the exhaust to come down far enough that the hitch will slide into place a little easier. Remove the next exhaust hanger forward on the driver side of the vehicle. After we have the exhaust hangers removed and exhaust has been lowered out of the way, we will go ahead and need to remove the carbon canister that is on the back of the passenger side of the vehicle. To do this, there are two bolts as well as two nuts that need to be removed. Now we need to use our fish wire and thread our half inch carriage bolt with our quarter inch by one inch by three inch spacer block into place. Once you have this one in place, we also need to go ahead and use the fish wire to thread our half inch carriage bolt and our quarter inch by inch by two inch spacer block into the hole that's just up from the exhaust hanger. Now that we have these two carriage bolts in place, you might want to go ahead and get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch up in place. Once you have the hitch held in place, go ahead and pull the carriage bolt back through the frame and through the hitch using the fish wire. Once you have this in place, use the conical tooth washer and the half inch nut with the teeth facing towards the hitch when installing these bolts. more
