Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System Installation - 2014 Ford Focus

Hi there, Focus owners. Today in our 2014 Ford Focus, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Roadmaster's InvisiBrake supplemental braking system. Your braking system is one of five main components you'll need when flat towing your vehicle. In addition to your braking system, you're also going to need your tow bar, which is going to provide the connection between your motorhome and your vehicle. You'll also need your base plate, which gives you the connection point for your tow bar on your vehicle. Your safety cables, which is a supplementary connection between the two and your diode wiring, which takes all the lighting signals from your motorhome, transfers them to your vehicle so they can be displayed on the lights at the back of the vehicle, so everybody around you knows your intentions. And this is what our braking system looks like when it's installed. more

Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit Installation - 2011 Ford Fusion

Ryan: Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2011 Ford Fusion, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit. Well, our brake light relay is going to be one of six main components needed to flat tow our Ford Fusion. The other five are going to be the base plate, our diode wiring, our braking system, safety cables, and a tow bar. Now, the reason you're going to need a brake light relay, is that when you're flat towing your Fusion behind your motorhome and you turn the motorhome's blinker on, the blinker back here will flash normally, unless you happen to hit the brakes inside of your motorhome at the same time. Then what's going to happen is back here, the brakes are going to override our turn signals, and then other motorists won't know if we're turning or stopping. Now the way that relay is going to work, is that it's going to tap into your brake pedal position sensor wire, and it's going to separate those circuits. Now installation is going to be relatively simple, we're only going to be working with a handful of wires to get the job done. more

Yeah, this one looks a little bit different, it's been heavily modified, but all we've done on our braking system will apply to all E350 vans that are out there. Now, the function of our braking system is to help your motor home and your van slow down at the same time. This will provide better handling during your braking event. As you're going down the road, what's really neat, if you have your monitoring system on your motor home, when your braking system activates the brakes, you'll see this light come on. Hi, I'm Shane 00:00:01 with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at showing you how we installed the Demco Air Force One braking system on our 2014 Ford Edge. What the braking system's going to do, it's going to give you a brake system in the car while it's being flat towed, so you don't have to rely on the brakes from the RV to slow down both vehicles. With the Air Force One, it relies on air pressure from the RV. It's going to send the air pressure when you apply the brakes in the RV. It's going to send in the air pressure through this line through an operating unit that is mounted inside the vehicle. An air line tube is ran inside to a cylinder that is mounted on the brake pedal arm. more

Today on our 2018 Ford Focus, we're going to be taking a look at, I'm going to show you how I installed the SMI Air Force One supplemental braking system for motor homes with air brakes, part number SM99243. The Air Force One is going to allow you to safely flat-tow your Ford behind your motor home. The other four are going to be your base plate, your tow bar, your safety cables, and your wiring. This system's going to be a proportional system, which means when you apply the brakes from the RV, it's going to match that amount of pressure and apply them in the towed vehicle. The air pressure from the motor home, when the brakes are applied, is forced into the towed vehicle, pushed in through the actuator, which in turn applies the brake pedal. Our L bracket with our air fitting here at the front of the vehicle, this gets an air line attached to our RV. When the brakes are applied in the RV, the air pressure is transferred through our line, through our system, to our actuator, in turn applying the brakes. You're also going to have a tether that comes in your kit. more

Today in our 2018 Ford Expedition, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for towed vehicles, part number RM-88400. So, whenever we're flat-towing our Expedition and we turn on our turn signal, if we hit the brakes in our motor home and our supplemental braking system kicks in, it's going to override that signal. And our turn signal's not going to be blinking anymore, and it's going to turn solid, which that could be a big safety hazard because we want our turn signals to work all the time. That's where our Brake-Lite Relay's going to come into play. And with our Brake-Lite Relay installed, if the brakes are applied in our Expedition, it's not going to cancel out that turn signal. So, now that we've seen our Brake-Lite Relay work, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation we're going to come to our driver's side, and we're actually going to be starting right at this panel right below our steering wheel. You want to take a trim panel tool and come right around the edge on either side, and the panel should pop out. more

Let's say we're flat towing our Ford behind our RV. We want our RV to take control of the lighting functions on our Ford. The braking system in the Ford applies the brake, the brake lights will come on. Without the Brake-Lite Relay, that brake light signal is going to override any turn signal coming from the RV. Once we install this it's going to break that signal on our factory wire and allow all of our proper lighting functions, turn signals, brake lights, running lights, from our RV to transfer through to our Ford while it's being flat towed. This is what our Brake-Lite Relay Kit looks like when we get it. more

Speaker 1: Today in our 2014 Ford Focus, we're going to be installing the Stay and Play Duo Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251. To help maximize the safety when driving down the road flat towing your Focus, a braking system can be installed, which will allow it to break proportionally with your RV. There's a cylinder located on your brake pedal that's permanently installed, so the system is ready to go whenever you're ready to hook up and take off. The cylinder will actuate the brake pedal, applying the brake proportionally while pulling the vehicle down the road. So the harder you break inside your RV, the faster you're going and the more that momentum is transferred, it'll apply the brake harder on your brake pedal. What's great about this is it's going to make it easier to drive your RV. more

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2017 Ford Focus

Speaker 1: Here in this 2017 Ford Focus, we're going to be having a look at and showing you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251.For this particular flat tow set up on this Ford Focus, we use a Demco Tabless Baseplate Kit, we use the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit for our tow vehicle lighting system, the SMI Stay-IN-Play Duo Supplemental Braking System. And for our tow bar, we use the Demco Commander tow bar that mounts on the motor home. Now the main reason you're going to want the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO for your Ford Focus is if you're flat towing it, you're going to need a braking system to stay safe and legal.Being a proportional braking system, this is going to give us the smooth and safe stops that we're looking for. Whether that be a gentle stop coming to a stop sign, or more aggressive stopping if we need to do evasive maneuvering, or something happens in front of us and we need to stop quickly. Here's what our Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System looks like on our vehicle. Underneath the hood, we'll have our operating unit and this is the heart of the unit. This is our vacuum pump which will supply air pressure to the cylinder which will operate our brake pedal and supply vacuum to our brake boosters to make it easier for the pedal to be depressed when the engine's not on.And here's what it looks like in the vehicle clamp to our brake pedal. Now what's great about this which really sets it apart from other options out there, such as the Blue Ox Patriot 2, is that this is a permanently installed option. more

The SMI Air force One, what it's going to do it's going to provide a proportional braking system to your Ford Edge while being towed. The reason that's important is while you are flat towing you don't want to rely solely on the brakes of your RV to slow down your towed vehicle. So how this is going to work is when you hit the brakes in your RV, it's going to apply the same amount of force in our towed vehicle. This system's also going to come with an indicator light, that's going to come on when the brakes are applied in your towed vehicle. Which you can monitor through the rear camera on your RV. That supplemental braking system is going to allow our Focus to slow itself down, reducing the time and distance that it takes us to stop.Which braking system is going to be right for you is really going to come down to three major things: how long you're going to keep your Focus, what kind of brakes are on your motor home, and if you want to have an easier installation with more repetitive steps after the fact or if you'd rather have a more intensive installation with nothing to do after that. Here we're going to have the Roadmaster InvisiBrake. Both of these are going to take the brake signal from our motor home and use that to apply the brakes on our Focus. Now where they're going to differ is our InvisiBrake is going to get that signal and it's going to have a preset amount that it's going to apply to the brakes. Now we are going to be able to adjust the pressure using this knob here for more or less force, but it's just going to get that brake signal from the lights and then apply the brakes. Our Stay-IN-Play DUO is still going to get that signal from the lights and apply the brakes, however, it's also going to have this G-force controller unit inside of our vehicle. What this is going to do is this is going to sense the slowing down or the deceleration of our Focus while in conjunction with that light signal and figure out the appropriate amount to apply the brakes. So, if we come to a stop and ease into it, our Stay-IN-Play is going to ease into the brakes just like in the motor home. more

Blue Ox Patriot Proportional Braking System Installation - 2018 Ford Focus

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2018 Ford Focus, we're going be taking a look at the Blue Ox Patriot 2, radio frequency, portable breaking system, part number BRK2016. Keep in mind, for complete safe flat tow set up, you're going to need a base plate, two bar, tow bar wiring, and a braking system. Our Patriot 2's going to have a monitor, that way we can always know what's going on with our Focus while we're driving down the road. We're going to be able to go through the menu, set the sensitivity, as well as the maximum force, and a few other things. And then also, from here, we're going to have the force, which we'll be able to set, resuming the initial force that it's going to be working at, going all the way up to nine, and down to zero. Now for night driving, we do have a back light, that's going to be on here. It's going to be kind of hard to see, because it is during the day, but that backlight is going to illuminate the screen just a little bit, but not blind you while you're driving. Now, if we ever get in a situation where our Focus starts swaying behind our motor home, and we don't want to apply the brakes on the motor home itself, but we want our Focus to slow down. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford F-150, we're going to be installing Roadmaster's brake light relay kit, part number RM-88400. Now if you're going to use a braking system when flat towing your F-150, you want to verify if you need a brake light relay, because when you hit the brakes in your RV, that braking system is going to apply the brakes in the vehicle. When it does, it may override your turn signal, just like we did there. Our turn signal is currently being supplied by the signal from our RV. The brake signal from the vehicle shouldn't override it. If the brake signal does override your turn signal, you won't be in compliance with state laws. more

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2018 Ford F-150

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford F150 we're gonna be installing SMI's Air Force One supplemental braking system, part number SM99243. The Air Force One braking system is gonna provide you with supplemental braking while pulling your vehicle behind your RV. It's gonna use the air braking system on your RV to supply an airline back to your vehicle which will actuate your braking system using the supplied operating unit.It comes with an emergency breakaway switch so in case your vehicle happened to become uncoupled from your RV while going down the road this pin will get pulled and it will apply the brakes on your vehicle, bringing it to a halt to prevent any accidents from occurring. There's an indicator light that's installed on the back of your mirror, this way when you brake on your RV you know that your vehicle's braking because this light only activates when the actuator in your vehicle is pulling the brake pedal. What I really like about this system is that it's minimal in comparison with others. The components are smaller, it has less wiring, and using your existing air supply on your RV makes it actuate proportionally giving you some of the best braking performance you can get.Now that we've gone over some of the features let's show you how to get it installed. more

Here's what our SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO looks like installed. This operating unit here, this is the heart of our system. This is our unit, which provides a vacuum pump, which supplies vacuum to our brake booster through this hose here, making it easier for the system to depress the brake pedal when the engine's off and not supplying back into the booster. Our operating unit also supplies airflow to our cylinder mounted inside the vehicle, which depresses our brake pedal for us. This is our air cylinder, which is clamped to our brake pedal, and is attached to our vehicle's firewall via a cable. more

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford F150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake-Lite relay kit for towed vehicles, part number RM-88400. First let's talk about what comes in our kit. You're going to have your brake relay, which is going to attach to your brake light switch, your fuse tap, your 10 amp fuse, a few butt connectors, ring terminal, your self tapping screw, and a little extra wire.So let's talk about what our vehicle's going to do if we don't have our brake relay installed. Let's say you have a brake system on your towed vehicle or on your Ford. You're towing it down the road, when you hit your brakes in your RV, the brake lights are going to come on in your truck or in your towed vehicle. However, when you hit your brakes and you turn on your blinker in your RV, you're only going to see the brake lights in the truck because the brake light signal is overriding that turn signal. more

Speaker 1: Today on this 2011 Ford Edge, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for towed vehicles, part number RM-88400. So, when we don't have a brake light relay installed on our towed vehicle, when we are towing it behind our motor home and our turn signal's on and then are brakes are depressed, we have the issue of our brake lights coming on, on our towed vehicle overriding the turn signal from our motor home. Now with the brake light relay installed and operating, when we step on the brakes on our RV with our turn signal on, our brake signal does not override the turn signal function when the brakes are applied inside our towed vehicles with the supplemental braking system. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll see how to get it installed. To begin our install, we need to locate our vehicle's brake light switch. We will find that on the driver's side of our vehicle, underneath the dash connected to our brake pedal. Okay, this right here is our brake light switch. Now, we need to determine which wire coming off of our brake light switch is the cold side and what that means is that we only have power flowing through it when the brake pedal is depressed. Now, you wanna check this with a multimeter. more

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2008 Ford Edge, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO. This is a proportional, supplemental braking system with part number SM99251. The Stay-IN-Play DUO is an excellent solution for braking power in your towed vehicle. This helps us to stay in compliance with any state laws and also really helps getting everything slowed down in emergency situations. This proportional system ties directly into the vacuum system in the vehicle so you get full braking power applied to the brakes in proportion, or at the same speed in which you are trying to slow down your RV. So, for your standard slow speed stops, it will have that kind of braking effect in our car. more

Host: Today on our 2008 Ford Edge, we're going to take a look at, and show you how to install the Road Masters Brake Light Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles. Part number is RM-88400.Now, this brake light relay is required on the Ford Edge because when the braking system in your towed vehicle presses the brakes, that signal will override the blinker signal that you have coming from your motor home. This means while you're making a turn and braking at the same time, your lights are not functioning properly without it. With this system install, we're going to have an automatic way to shut that signal off going to the brake lights. Now, the relay harness that we have here wires directly in line with the brake light switch. The green wire is going to face our switch, the black wire is going to face our bulb, and then with the ignition on, it's going to close the relay so that it can send that signal. To access the cold side wire, we need to get into the panel here underneath the steering wheel, and to remove the panel, we've got two 10mm screws to take out here. Now, with those removed, we want to pull out. more

Today on our 2016 Ford Taurus, we'll be installing the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, part number SM99251. Here's what our system looks like installed. As you can see, it's a real clean installation. We only have this small box that's mounted inside our vehicle and the actual cylinder itself, which moves our brake pedal down towards the floor and applies the brakes in our vehicle. All we have to do once we're hooked into our motor home is turn our system on, and we can adjust our sensitivity here by this knob. We can loosen it, slide it up to be less sensitive, and tighten the knob back down. By being less sensitive, the brakes will be applied slower and less harshly than you would be if you had it in a more sensitive position, so the car will slow down more gradual than if you have it down in a more sensitive position. more

Next thing to note is the lack of clearance for mounting our Stay-IN-Play box here in the engine compartment. We're going to take our Stay-IN-Play operating unit and mount it in the back seat, underneath the driver's seat, to an access panel. With my seat moved all the way up and we remove the floor mat, we can easily see the access panel. The access panel allows for access to the charging cord for the C-Max vehicle.
