Today on our 2021 Grand Design Solitude Fifth Wheel, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Dexter DX Series brake actuator for campers that have electric over hydraulic disc brakes. But before we get into that, let's take a minute, we'll check this out and make sure this is going to work for you. What this is going to help you accomplish or where it's gonna come into play is for those of you that are wanting to convert your camper's braking system to a disc brake kit, hydraulic disc brake kit, because the majority of the trailers out there are gonna come out of the factory with your standard electric drum brakes, right Which work, but they're subpar, especially on big campers like this, right So by upgrading to electric over hydraulic disc brakes, it makes a huge difference. It'll reduce your topping distance usually by about half, if not more sometimes, depending on the brake kit that you get. So with this, how it's gonna work is it's going to receive input from your truck's brake controller. more

Hey, guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Deutsche Hydrapro brake actuator. The series that we're working with today is going to be the G-1600 Alpha. If you need a higher flow rating or if you have a triple-axle trailer, that's a good reason to need more flow, that is gonna be the G-1600 X Alpha. The unit itself is going to have a very small construction comparative to a lot of the other accessories on an RV. You can mount it up pretty well anywhere you've got an open footprint of about 6 by 12 inches. more

This is what our actuator looks like when it's installed. It provides up to 1600 PSI of pressure to apply the brakes on your trailer. This is an ideal solution if you're going with an electric over hydraulic setup and converting your trailer from drum to disc brakes. 1600 PSI is going to be more than enough for a disc brake setup. more

We've got our customer Mark here. So Mark, what made you decide to switch over to an electric over hydraulic system Mark: So when I started doing research and talking to people that had a system like this, one of the things that came up is that I'm going to like the smoother braking. Oh yeah. Mark: And so, I mean, there's bigger, better freaking power back there, but I guess through hydraulic is just going to be a smoother, better performance. more

HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator Kit Installation - 2018 Grand Design- Video
Today on our 2018 Grand Design Reflection One fifty fifth wheel, you're gonna be taking a look, and I'm gonna show you how I installed the Hydrastar electric over hydraulic actuator kit for disc brakes, part number HBA16-252-82.This is what our actuator looks like when it's installed. You can see here I have it mounted in the front storage compartment of our trailer. So you want to make sure wherever you mount it, you leave your filler cap accessible so you can maintain your fluid level for your brakes. This actuator is gonna be powered through your seven pole plug on the back of your truck, it's gonna give you 1600 PSI, and it's gonna convert your electric signal over to hydraulic pressure to give you maximum braking power on your trailer. Once you've monitored your actuator, then the next thing you want to do is you want to mount your breakaway switch battery and charger, which is this black box here.A couple questions that may be asked is why you need a separate battery for your breakaway switch. While your trailer is being towed, your breakaway switch needs to have constant power. more
