Curt Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Toyota Prius

How's it going, everybody Brian here at etrailer.com. Today on our 2017 Toyota Prius, we're going to be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Curt and treen-quarter trailer hitch receiver. More often than not, many of our Prius customers plan on using their hitch to carry their bike rack, maybe a light cargo carrier, or even that occasional very light duty towing. So not only is a hitch not going to take away from the looks of the back of your Toyota, since it is pretty much hidden, only thing you're going to be able to see is the receiver tube opening, but it's going to work perfect for those folding accessories, because it's going to give us really good clearance. The end of our receiver tube, it's going to be pretty much flush with the edge of our bumper. And the hitch is going to have a nice reinforced collar and that'll help add some extra strength. And since this is a class one, it's going to have the inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter opening. more

Best 2017 Toyota Prius Trailer Hitch Options

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Toyota Prius, we'll be having a look at our best trailer hitch options. We have two hitches here today that fit the Prius. On the top we have a Draw-Tite Class 1 trailer hitch receiver, and then on the bottom we have a CURT Class 1 trailer hitch receiver. First we'll give you a brief summary about the differences between our hitches. In regards to appearance, we found that the CURT hitch here, with our personal opinion, is the better looking hitch here, so we'll give that one a win. As far as recreational use goes, we found that the Draw-Tite hitch has a slight advantage over the CURT hitch because there is no recommendation for use of a safety strap if you're using it for a non-trailer application. Now in my personal opinion, if I personally owned a Prius, I'd be leaning towards the CURT hitch myself because I feel that it looks the best on the vehicle. The color gives it a nice finished look and doesn't take away from any of the attractive, stylish lines on the back of the vehicle. The first difference that we found between our two hitches is in regards to appearance. more

Trailer Hitch Installation - 2017 Toyota Prius - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2017 Toyota Prius we'll be having a look at and installing the Draw-Tite Sport Frame Class I Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 24944. All right, here's what our hitch looks like installed. As you can see, the only part you see underneath your vehicle is the receiver itself, on the bottom of which you'll have your safety chain loops, which are a rolled steel construction. What I like about these is you can hook on your safety chains from the back, the side or the front, giving you a full range of access for them. You shouldn't have much problems with hooking up most safety chains to it, since they are fairly large size. The rest of our hitch is completely hidden underneath our appearance panels here and behind our rear fascia, giving us a very clean and factory-like appearance under our vehicle. This hitch features a 200 pound max gross tongue weight rating, which is the amount of pressure pointing down, and a 2,000 pound max gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount of the pull power that you have. more

Today in our 2017 Toyota Prius, we'll be having a look at and installing the Curt Class I trailer hitch receiver, part number C11426. Here's what our hitch looks like installed. As you can see, our hitch is completely hidden underneath our vehicle and all of our plastic panels. The only part that you'll see hanging down is our actual Class I inch and a quarter receiver itself, and then a rolled steel safety chain loops which are welded to the bottom of our receiver. These safety chain loops, they're nice because you can use safety chains on the back side, the side or on the front. They're pretty decent size, you shouldn't have problems using most safety chains on them. Now on the side of our receiver here, you'll find our industry standard 1/2 inch diameter hitch pin hole. There is a hitch pin included with this hitch, so you don't have to worry about purchasing one separately. At the end of our receiver, you find this nice welded on collar that helps give it a more finished look and gives it a little bit more strength and durability.
